hi guys, i enjoy noodle around on the guitar.. well safe to say its my addiction. at any rate, months ago i remember a app that was a virtual amp being featured.. i did not buy it at the time cause if apple no allow the input device to be made would be throwing money away which i try not to do... this software was basically smaller version of what they sell and code for the pc/mac now. i use some of these and they sound great. ( i dig the Hendrix package ) i use my ipod for all the guitar apps i can find/ worth buy on the app store as it is now. lol

anyhow, the more and more i find my self with my ipod glued to my body.. the more and more i would love for it to be used as a practice amp too. however, i can not find the program that said they were working on getting a adapter for the ipod/phone.. so you can plug your 1/4" guitar cable into it.. has anyone heard of any updates? be it the company im thinking of or others.. i know i would spend my money on the apps for virtual amps/pedals in my ipod/phone.

anyhow, thanks for any feed back.. i just hope apple thinks its a good idea they would make some money off the apps.. yet another buck in jobs pocket.. come on Steve make this happen!! would be fun to play guitar hero style games using my rg550 guitar ( granted, probably would have to use the ipad so i could see the dang thing. lol ) .. would just make the idevices that more versatile. dreams of such days.. floats back to earth. laughs

hope you all are enjoying your sunday.. smoking a turkey for dinner here. rock on

There are a couple virtual amps and hardware units available (or soon to be available):

    http://www.ikmultimedia.com/irig/
    http://agilepartners.com/apps/ampkit/

I read that Line 6 was working on something too, but never actually released anything. I haven't actually tried any of these on the iPhone yet, but I use Amplitube software/hardware on the desktop and have been pretty happy with that.

    I'm CEO, bitch.
    Stuck in Limbo
line 6 has a midi mobilizer. that's all i have heard about. I don't think they're making something for guitar. also sonoma wireworks are making an interface that will cost $200 I think.

    Hi sid187,

could it be possible you´re are confusing the Line6 POD series with the Apple iPod?

Cause the Line6 is exactly what you`re looking for.

Sonmnia Wireworks will put out the GuitarJax sometime in summer but at
$199 just for a DI this is ridiculous!

The Alesis Pro Track does way more for the same money:
    getting Audio into the iPod.
    But both lack any Amp-Emulation.

So I´d go with Line6 anyway.

    There is also the
DJ-Tech i-GX iPod Jammin, which is a DI and a iPod recording device.
The video shows a NANO but will work with an iPod, too.

Ya I think I must've miss-read (or miss-remembered) the Line 6 midi mobilizer thing. It hooks up to some Planet Waves app to control their amps or some other semi pointless thing...

As for Line 6 vs Amplitube, I'm firmly in the Amplitube camp. I've owned various Line 6 Pods and pedals over the years but sold them all after trying Amplitube. Pods are great for portability but the sound just doesn't hold up next to Amplitube, especially when you get into high-gain territory.

I wouldn't hesitate buying the iRig kit if I thought I'd use it. I'm just not sure how often I'd bother plugging into an iPod with all this other gear lying around.

hi, if i understand you.. no i have a pod i use as a interface to my computer xu2.. not the small portable one.. i have several software packages from different company's... line 6 stuff to Amplitube and i dig Amplitube ( the heavy metal, and hendrix suites.. and im happy )stuff.. not tried peavy software yet. have tried realguitar and it was good. more and more virtual software seems to be made every day.. amazing what they can do with code.

    thanks for the feed back.

yeah im not impressed with line6 stomp boxes.. the one i tried had a funky power demand too.. not your typical 9v.. just messed my pedal board all up.

i would love a video game to come up. iv been waiting for this company to come out with there software.

    http://www.guitarrising.com/

iv given up on it.. after waiting 3 years.. blah.

im thinking if the guitar interface for the ipod/pad would come out devs would code it.. and we get our real guitar hero game.. but who knows maybe guitarrising will come out this year. laughs.

[disclaimer - I work for Agile]
We looked at both options: audio jack, or the device dock; and there were hurdles in either direction.
Using the audio-jack, you invite a world of line interference and cross talk into the signal - bad.
Using the device dock, you have to first negotiate with the iOS firmware, which is a constantly changing thing.

We wound up going the audio-jack route, as we can accurately predict impedance needs, and will not have to deal with software changing. Along the way, we engineered a nice little cross-talk killer. Since we went in that direction, you an use AmpKit LiNK with any iOS device, out of the box.

thanks for the feed back. im interested in your software.. im a big fan of the peavey classic :)

cant wait for the stuff to get released.

should be fun to see if any developers come up with some creative apps/games and what not.

was thinking be fun to have a play that lick game.. with leader boards..
heh, could be fun!!! could even have a section// like in guitar magazine.. "betcha cant play this" section. etc etc. i do think if any of these ideas are to happen.. will be with the idevices..

been thinking of getting a ipad.. so ic an use it to read music off of.. would be handy to just use the ipad for the amp too..
    at any rate..

keep up the good work :)

and i cant wait to give this stuff a try :)

bradley - i have a question.. this may sound like a dumb question.. but with the power of the idevices.. im not sure how raw the tones your software will produce. anyhow. the other software based amp simulators i have.. sound way better with a good set of studio head phones.. ones that do not color the tone.

i was reading the amplitudes app feed back and some are saying the sound sucks yet others says sounds great.. this has to come down to head phones. as the amplitude software suites i have on my pc sounds great.

so just wondering if the iphone/pod will require ( probably bad choice of word.. but would sound better with a set )studio head phones or not.. as most will not have them and probably just use the ipod ear buds..

did you code the software with generic ipod ear buds in mind?

sorry if this seems like a odd question, or if you can not comment on it i understand too.. i can say i think im gonna go with your package.. and hope the dongle will work with amplitudes too.

    chris.
