Why did this thread die? This is possibly the best game coming to our iPlatform so far.

This is gonna be great. The top down-ish style doesn't seem too bad at all, since it is 3D. It's a great way to make a game for all the handhelds. I hope that Rockstar will make Bully game for the iDevice using the same view (or even the PS2 version if it'd work).

    No chance.

Because we're on the 37th page and there's been zero information released about the game so far.

I'm kinda worried about the controls. I really hope Rockstar doesn't use the accelerometer for movement. They're gonna make or break this game.

I'm guessing the graphics will be slightly better than the DS version, and the screen set up similar to the PSP version. Google those if you want to get an idea of how this might look.

This is also what got me thinking. I think it is best they will use the same controls as other top down shooters with dual sticks and have some extra separated action buttons.

Like I stated, then, accelerometer controls as an option so "I don't 'get' accelerometer control" whiners can enjoy the game.

Seriously...I think some people just spaz out with motion controls. I've seen it with people playing Wii games, and seen it with people playing iPhone/touch games.

FYI, slight movements of the wrist are all that is necessary. One needn't to tilt the device away from you.

I'm not picking on you, fenrir, just anyone who doesn't "get" the fact that slight movements are all that's needed. I swear I should start a "motion control tutoring" service whereby I sit next to folks with a stick and use it to smack them in the kneecaps when they get the controls wrong and make spazzy motions. Like that guy in the "That's thinking with your dipstick...Jimmy" commercials. :D

Again, there's the tale of two Paybacks.

The first version, which was completely overhead ala the 2D GTA games. Reviewers didn't complain about the controls so much as the controls + the overhead viewpoint of the game made it difficult to see ahead of you and so gamers would inevitably crash into other cars or the dreaded lightposts of impending doom.

The second version, with the 3/4 camera, COMPLETELY changed the game. The game controlled better because now gamers could see further ahead when driving, and could avoid obstacles, especially those dreaded lightposts.

    The hell it did.

That same sort of slow-to-follow camera system was employed in GTA:San Andreas and is one of the very reasons I don't really like driving in San Andreas (or Gangstar, which has the same annoying camera).

The 3/4 view in GTA:CTW makes it so I can see further ahead, right? So why is it when I turn to shoot the guys to the left of me, or turn my car to the right, I can't see ahead of me momentarily because the goddamn camera is slow to center behind me?

That's why I ride the "cam center" button in that game, and the GTA games that "added" that stupid slow-to-follow camera system. I turn and hit the button immediately. I'd like to see, in a more rapid fashion, just where the hell I'm going and what the hell I'm up against in the game.

I'm hoping they fix it in the PSP and iPhone/touch versions, tbqh.

The rest of what you stated was completely valid though, and I agree. I just cannot agree on the assessment that that slow ass camera in the newer GTA games is in any way "superior" to what was used before in the earlier GTA games.

Again, no dual stick. Control wheel on the left hand side, buttons on the right. Strafing could be handled by holding down on the "shoot" button when pressing left and right, or a camera center button if Rockstar doesn't fix that issue in the game (and, yes, I still say it's an issue: why not have the cam auto center like it used to?).

Although when it comes to the iPhone platform I tend to favor small mini-games that you can pick up an play as opposed to in-depth games, I'm definitely looking forward to GTA:CW on the iPhone. I've never played it for the DS or PSP but i'm sure it'll be a great addition to the iPhone.

I am hoping for a dual stick control method. Maybe have accelerometer as an option.

GTA: CW has minigames as well, such as making molotovs, hotwiring, setting up explosives, rigging cars, and some other things. They're actually pretty fun.

How do you shoot multiple targets and how do you aim with 1 control stick? Straving is not al you need to do when shooting. If you want to let the computer handle the aiming, that's really no option for me.

I hope they take the chance to implant dual sticks. All they need to do is change the fire button to a stick and it's perfect. Man hope they don't screw it up and make 1 stick and some buttons and let the computer do the aiming. The iPhone is not a crippled PSP with 1 stick..
