Not yet. As far, there hasn't been any media release for the iPhone version.
My guess is that we will hear more at the apple media event on the 9th.

Same, can't wait to get my hands on this game! And to think I was going to buy a DS just to play this game :p

I'd love to get more details on this game on the 9th...

None yet, they do have the PSP screenshots. I hope the iPhone/iPod Touch version is closer to the PSP's graphics than the DS's.

I wonder what the controls will be like in this game. I really hope they don't use a virtual joystick, but not sure it's possible.

I prefer games like Samurai where movement is contolled just by touching on the screen where you want to go - at least for the on-foot movement. Steering in cars could be handled by simply touching anywhere on the left or right side of the screen. There would need to be virtual buttons I guess, for acceleration and shooting your weapons. Locking on to enemies could be as simple as touching them, then when you move around your character faces in that enemy's direction.

I guess we'll see. I just hate how much screen real estate those virtual sticks occupy. And it forces you to always cover up a certain area of the screen with your thumb.

lol Im not sure about you, but every gta game i have played including chinatown wars, has been a fast paced game, tapping where you want to, lifting you hand, tapping an enemy, then shooting... not gonna happen, i believe the way i said it is how they are going to do it, with a virtual joystick,(tapping wont work cause of the rotational camera), a tap to auto aim mechanic, or just shoot in the direction, they might use the swipe method for molotovs and grenades, a button to fire, steering with the left/right buttons, or accelerometer based. Im sorry but samurai controls will not work with a camera that keeps rotating, it works with samurai cause its the background is static.

And tapping and dragging controls also don't work that good, because if you want to move up, you have to touch the upper side of your screen so your finger takes a very large space from the screen.

IMHO, the best control method that could be used for a game like this is similar to what is used in Payback. Hotspots for forward and backward movement on the left side of the screen along with "action" hotspots on the right hand side, with the accelerometer handling turning.

They could use that as the primary method, and then implement a "touch only" control option for the whiners who don't "get" accelerometer controlled games. "Touch only" would have a slider on the bottom left hand side, with virtual action "buttons" on the right hand side for stuff like shoot and "run".

Or they could use that "steering dpad" used in CJS.

Personally, I still think the Payback style controls would be the best fit. Doesn't take up valuable screen real estate. Actually...Blue Skies was the first game to use that style of control on this platform, and in that one you can change the opacity settings so the "hotspots" can be as visible as you wish them to be.

Add in a "screen tilt when you tilt" effect ala some of the racers on the platform (NFS:U, Fastlane, etc.) and the tilt to turn method would be great IMHO.

well those controls wont work, liike i said, gta cw is a game that requires you to quickly be able to instantly go from forward to backward, and making a uturn would have actually require your character to be like a car and make an actual uturn uturn (most likely your running from the cops, and that uturn means that you will get caught), while with a joystick, you can easily adjust the way your going, you need that kind of accuracy when your playing gta cw, not accelerometer controls, where you sit there and wait for your character to turn, not to mention the fact that in the game, a quick turn left with a joypad compared to a quick turn left on payback controls are not the same thing... Now i wouldnt mind accelerometer controls while droving, but while out of this car, you need the accuracy of a joystick. and accelerometer controls on a gta game just wouldnt feel right.

Well they do work, because they work in Payback!

As for your complaints (speed and accuracy) both would still be problematic with touch controls such as a virtual stick - especially so for accuracy in my opinion. As for tilt controls, games like Real Racing have shown that well implemented use of the accelerometer can be VERY accurate and fast. Also, it also depends on how you code the forward/back buttons, in that you could implement a system where a quick tap on the back button makes the character turn 180 degrees for example. And sensitivity options for the tilt could allow for a wide range of speed ranges in turning.

    @ Ddyracer123, what about 3G? Now that would be a f**king insane feature! :D

payback was a much slower game than gta, and in case you actually are not a fan of gta, rockstar would not turning to be so misdone, turning through accelerometer just would have you hastling with the controls rather than enjoying the game. People who didnt like payback (e.g. me) didnt like it because of the accelerometer controls. Look at some of the reviews of the game, it just wasnt right, what i am trying to say is that when you play gta cw the camera doesnt rotate behind the character, adding accelerometer control would make it follow the character, making for a much slower looking game, the fact that the camera does not stay behind you was something that made it more free roaming, the fact that you could click left and your character would go left on the screen until the camera went behind was something that made the game more enjoyable. I dont know but auto aiming, would be pointless if you cant move left and right... Think about it liek a fps without strafing, like wolfenstein with its default controls, you can only go forward back and turn. GTA CW allowed you to go forward, left, back, forward, universal moving. Unlike payback, which limited your movement.
Why do you think GTA CW and Advanced changed the top down/ 3/4 viewcontrols?? because GTA 1 and 2s controls didnt allow the mobility you needed, X to walk forward, and left and right to turn? thats okay while your driving, but when your out of the car the ability to just turn left and right but not walk left and right, kind of makes the game much slower, thats why they rockstar made the controls how they are now. How would you quickly be able to aim at the cops coming from all sides with accelerometer controlsand move to the available spot on the left? you cant cause you have to aim where you walk... Thats with payback controls...

I hope Rockstar instills the 3.0 feature to play your own music in the vehicles, like Gameloft did for Gangstar.
