Is this easy to do? If I mess up is any damage done to the application? Also can this mess up my phone at all? Any chance someone is willing to list easy instructions on how to do this on a Mac running Lion? I don't want to mess with altering any of the hex lines, just want to install Dan's preset and be done with it.
Ok I think I've now got the perfect balance between graphics and performance for my iPhone 4 on iOS 5.0.1. I took Dan's set file and reduced the resolution to the lower resolution. So it's not quite as sharp as the full retina resolution, but it still has all the lighting, shadows and blood effects and more importantly it seems to run just as smooth as the standard unmodified game on the iPhone 4, but now it looks much better. I don't know why Rockstar didn't include the extra lighting, shadow and blood effects, the iPhone 4 can clearly cope with them. I guess maybe it could affect the frame rate on the iPod Touch 4 and iPad with less RAM?
All I did was throw the new file in iexplorer then it crashed and when I checked it the old file was gone and only the new existed. No hex editor needed
Only problem I'm seeing is I looked in the Documents folder with iExplorer and there is nothing to replace. The folder is empty . . . Nvm I am an idiot, it's showing up now. Thanks to Dan and LBG! I tried Dan's third preset and the colors/resolution were awesome until it would go into a cutscene then it would drop in fps pretty bad. Tried LBG's preset after and I think that's the sweet spot for me as well. It's not as sharp, but all the effects that deterred me from playing in the first place are there - lighting, shadows, blood, and the fps is pretty consistent.
you. you are the man haha. cant really tell the difference in resolution with my 20/40 eyesight but i am appreciating everything that you added to this haha its perfect! framerate has NO drops on my ipod 4th gen and runs epicly
This works fantastic! I love it. I think its the best one so far! No framrate issues! Just played through a couple of missions and the game world looks much better without the fps drop! Thanks so much!!
Dan's third one worked phenomenally, but the game crashed once, so I thought I'd stay on the safe side and use LBG's mod. Awesome job guys! I've just got one little inquiry...What are the draw distance settings on these mods, and what would happen if we made the draw distance even further?
How does it run when speeding along in a Banshee or in a busy firefight with many vehicles and people around? Presumably Rockstar has to be more conservative with their settings to account for the worst case scenarios. I just see lighting and shadows as being more GPU processing and CPU setup intensive than RAM intensive, so I don't think accommodating 256MB RAM devices is the primary limitation.
wow, what a difference! thanks a lot for this, i'm running 5.0.1 on an iPhone 4, jailbroken (the game was paid for) and by using the best settings file you provided everything looks great and no noticable slowdown whatsoever. for those mac users, phone view is a free download for a 7 day demo and its as easy as dragging and dropping. i'm not very technically inclined when it comes to stuff of this nature but its very simple i wonder why rockstar gimped the A4 version when some if not all of the features could have been there anyways, thanks a pant load chet!
