timers ryan - you seriously need to have a word with the guys that have messed this update up - the whole timer situation is absurd - i just went for an upgrade on the bentley speed 8 - and the time to install is 29.50 hours - wtf - thats over a day - so we cant play the game for over a day whilst this upgrade is being done - a totally pathetic way your team have made this game
So let me get this straight ... I am playing this week's event for winning the McLaren. I won all races so far, but tomorrow's race requires updates FOR PREMIUM MONEY ??? REQUIRES ??? And not just a few ...946 $ ... or in other words almost 9 Dollars in real money. For the chance (!!) to win a car ?? Not a real car mind you. HAVE YOU GONE COMPLETELY BONKERS GAMELOFT ???? I know you are a shit company, totally on par with EA, Zynga and a couple of other greedy bastards. But this is taking it a bit too far isn't it?? You already have almost completely destroyed what was a great game before the last update. Don't you know when to stop? This is borderline fraud ... the next step would be stealing the money out of my actual pocket! I hereby vow to NEVER NEVER pay you a single cent anymore, not matter which games you'll be throwing at me!
Thanks, Ryan. It can't be easy getting all this flak head on, and I for one appreciate you still posting despite how demoralising it must be. All the best.
This is exactly the reason why I stopped playing Gameloft's games. Gameloft does develop some impressive looking and fun games but the business model is absolutely terrible. I understand the company exists to make money but shoving paywalls or absurd grinding made me wont be playing any Gameloft games in the future.
I agree that things have gone a bit overboard with this update. Now that earnings from races have been dropped and upgrade costs have been raised, I'm having a really hard time just upgrading my current class c cars. And that doesn't even count trying to raise funds/coins to buy new cars. I have to really grind a couple of specific races that have big, fast payouts to earn anything. Payouts really need to be increased back to where they were before if we want to actually try earning anything new. Or, you need to reintroduce things like the daily races that have much larger payouts. The gt series is nice, but the requirements are off the rails. 900 credits to upgrade a car just for a chance to win another car? What would it have cost just to buy the mcclaren outright? probably about the same. Looks like I don't need to concern myself with the last series of this race because that is ridiculous. Mix in some better events. Most boosts? Really? I think the leaderboards showed how much interest there is in that. And we are repeating the upgrade event again. I think I placed third last time. I now only have very expensive upgrades left on class c cars, and with race rewards being nerfed, have very little chance of even earning the credit reward. And what is the deal with the 'multiplayer' system? I don't even bother, as I don't understand the scoring system and when/why my score resets. There is also some severe rubber banding going on with the races. I will be way out in first place on the second lap, and then a car or two will blow by me like I am standing still - even when I'm going at full speed. I would actually enjoy if the races are much harder than the career mode, but rubber banding isn't hard, its just frustrating and agitating. And finally - please, have mercy on us. Eliminate all the unnecessary scrolling/swiping to get to a race. I understand the 'continue' button is supposed to help with that, but it doesn't take me to the right place half the time. The organization of everything is completely borked. When I'm at the main car page, and I try to choose the next or previous car, it goes to the next or previous car I last purchased. Why doesn't in cycle through cars in the current series? The same thing happens on the screen that separates all the cars by series - instead of showing them in order they appear in the series, the are ordered by when they were purchased. Why? Doesn't make sense. Thanks for hearing me out - I'm hoping you're actually listening to our gripes. This game was pretty decent. Let's get back to that point.
A well appointed post. I agree with every point you have made, here. Halving the income and doubling the upgrade cost (which are forced upon us) can only have been motivated by wanting to squeeze more money out of players. I bought about 3000 premium notes so I did not really have to worry about buying some temp upgrades for the harder time trail events (grr) and could just get on a play the game. But I thought it was a fair price for what you got (being used toe RR£, just being able to play and play and play was fantastic). Not so now. I'm now only disposed towards thinking that the casual racers have dwindled and are thus no longer supplying the game with revenue and now the primary income stream is 'whales' who are happy to spend £50+ on the games (and do so regardless of value). I see this happening to these kinds of games more and more (although that may just be confirmation bias) where initially the amount of players bring in a respectable amount of revenue for the game but when they dwindle to non significant levels it is only the 'whales' who remain and they need to be (and allow themselves to be) gouged for the game to continue to make a profit. Based on this I never upgrade games with premium currencies until I know for sure the economy has not been adjusted or the timer/energy system changed. Once I got burnt with RR£ 1.20 update (grr) I have always kept a 1.0 version of these kind of games. This game getting 'updated' in a way to leave such a bad taste in my mouth is what made me go and buy a vita for my mobile gaming. Now I'm ruminating on games going f2p from premium but that is a cautionary tale for another time. Now, where did I put my vita?
Have the devs had a nervous breakdown or are they/gameloft simply greedy bastards pure and simple?? Hopefully customers have long memories and this affects future releases knowing that once players are hooked (not me) they will turn the screw and try to squeeze every last penny from you by moving the goal posts Hopefully Freemium will be the death of most of these greedy companies and sensible pay for premium games will prevail GaZ
Unfortunatley the opposite is the case. The market for gaming is still growing but most of the new "gamer" never did that before and they don't want to spend money on a premium game, instead they play all the freemium shit but throw them away anyway 5 minutes later (imo).Companies target this people because they see only millions of downloads (plus a few poor idiots who spend a lot of money for consumable iAPs etc.) instead of a happy and loyal (but much smaller)fanbase.Manager rule the gaming industrie, not gamer with soul. They don't give a shit and it seems to pay out well otherwise they wouldn't do it.I would like see a comparison between -say- Real Racing 2 vs 3.Downloads etc. Fortunately, theres still hope whem i see games like Oceanhorn,Badland,Leos fortune,The Room,Xcom,DoM and BoTB,Battle Academy, kotor,Galaxy on fire.Just to name only a really few! But as i said above,Aphalt 8's f2p model works surprisingly well for me.No waiting timers,no forced upgrades,no advertisements everywhere but a very motivating MP where you can earn good money (the winning streak is a great idea).I'm only in season 4 so i don't know if a bigger paywall will kick in later or not.But until that i had countless hours of fun with it.And it made me buying iAP in a f2p game the first time ever and i did not regret it.So i wouldn't say that F2P is always a bad idea. It's just weird that the same company can act very different on two similar games that where released roundabout the same time.I would assume that Asphalt has way more downloads (and therefore much more people buying iAP)and thats the reason why they try at least to dickel and dime us that much in GT2.But that's a short-sited strategy imo.
I totally agree it's the way forward, as a thirty year plus gamer, I realise that new generations of gamers will not know differently and it will just be the norm. I'm stuck in the dark days of gaming back in the early 80s lol All we can hope for is a pay model that is fair for everyone because without gamers willing to pay, there will be no games industry and surly not even new generations of gamers will want to feel like they are being ripped off! GaZ
blah Another GT series which requires cash upgrades. Yuck. It feels pretty cheap to get 7 days into an event, only to find that you are required to use some hard earned cash (or buy a cash pack). Any updates on an update? There is still an obtrusive amount of scrolling involved, and the organization is very strange and not very intuitive. And please look at the multi-player mode - the rubber banding is absolutely terrible.
I haven't received any new information on it, so my guess is the update is still in the early stages of the process. The Dev team had a lot of feedback after the big overhaul that they want to incorporate into this next update. Once I hear something new, I'll be sure to post.
What happened to this game killed my love of ios games. I went and bought a Vita. Even if it is full of ports, at least I know the games will not be ruined when they revenue stream drops.
I am hoping the update fixes my game. I can't manage to finish a race on my iPod Touch 5G. The first tutorial race ran fine but then after that, the menus lag and stutter like crazy and when I finally got into a race, it was like a slideshow. A few seconds later, it crashed. I already restarted my iPod and shut down every other app that was running. It also keeps asking for my Game Center password when I start the app. It's like the app is trying to download hella data and it's slowing everything down and taking up a bunch of memory. I hope I don't have to reinstall since the app is over 1GB... What a mess of a game. Edit: Okay, I've found the culprit. It's the Game Center connection. As soon as I let it connect to GC, the game becomes unplayable and will crash if I try to race. I have to put it in Airplane Mode. If I cancel the prompt at the beginning to sign into GC at the beginning, the game is fine. I wanted to play with my friends though...
That should not be happening. Could you let your support team know about this? They'll probably try and get some various technical information from you so the Dev team can try and reproduce it on our end. The game has social features, so a social connection should work. If you get a chance you can reach them here: GTR2 Contact
NP NP, sorry you're experiencing problems with the game, but thanks for bringing it to our attention!
