1 - I'll have to double check on that. I've always gone into the Challenge modes with the understanding that it was real-time.

2 - Not sure what list of names you're talking about. The only list I see is the list of names that are also in the race before starting it.

3 - There isn't a way to search right now. It's something people have mentioned to me before so I'll make sure to make a note about it and see if it's possible to add it in at a later date.

No question is stupid, especially if I haven't answered it before! Can you tell I used to teach? :p

    Thanks for the reply!

I assumed the multiplayer was time shifted because there doesn't seem to be any point when all the players join a host or whatever, like in other games... also, the racers seem to drive like AI at times, and I've never seen anyone drop out mid race. And finally, I can pause the race and everyone else stops too.

    @Swertdis.
    Its asynchronous multiplayer.
Similar to TSM but not exactly the same thing.
You are racing other players times that named player has set previously but not the actual player in real time.
Still multiplayer just not live. Some would call it ghosts, some async, just not synchronous but also not racing an AI because it is real other players times and laps.

    @Baykov.
What I'm seeing from that screen cap and combined with what you described is the multiplayer interface, as such.
The numbers you see beside each name is a combination of the rank of the player you would be playing and the affect it would have on you own rank if you raced that person.

In other words, the points you will win or lose by racing and winning or losing to that person.
It will have no affect if you don't actually race that person. So don't race someone with a red number as their rank is lower than your own and beating them will be of no difficulty and therefore not improve your rank and if they end up beating you it will reduce your ranking.

Those with green are either close to your own rank or higher, so racing them will improve your own rank stats.
It basically is a grading to scale system that ranks according to scale and rewards or not according to scale. It's not quite as simple as that but those are the basics.
So only select to race against those with a green number beside them as. Eating them will give you those points.

The system is designed to make it more fair and balanced in the sense that it disincentives you to race those that are of lower rank because, well, that would just be too easy, while at the same time incentivising you to race against those of similar rank, or higher, in order to improve your rank.
Its trying to just give a better balance and reward that relates more to actual skill in similar ranks as opposed to just those who play the most and play those lower ranked than themselves all the time.

But, I think your confusion is that on that screen it displays the potential result of racing those people. If you do not choose to race them, it will not change or affect your stats, it is purely showing you the affect of actually racing those individuals so as long as you don't race them, no affect. Or at least it shouldn't anyway.

It would be clearer if you could show the results screen along with the selection screen for the race that your problem happens in when contacting support (link in Ryan's second last post above).

Edit. Just as a further note that I forgot to detail it properly originally.

If you select a multiplayer challenge, the game deducts the entry fee and a page then comes up with all the competitors.
On that page it lists the competitors, how many points you get for beating all in the race and how many you lose for coming last.

Each other competitor in the race also has a red or green number associated with them and that is your competitor scale. You have to finish in a certain place to gain points and anything below that, you lose points. The minimum point is the first competitor with a green number, that is the minimum you have to beat and it scales up from there. Anything below that and you lose points.

If at that stage you chose to exit multiplayer and not race, the entry is refunded back into your game currency. A little red line pops up at the very top beside your currency saying your entry fee has been refunded.
This is not a "did not finish" or anything so there are no points deducted or entry fee taken if you back out of the race at that stage.

But if you go future than that screen, which is essentially the grid positioning, it's classified as entry so if you leave at that stage, its a did not finish so all the ranking system set up and rules apply.

I think that covers it more or less.
Essentially consider it a grading and scaling system where rank, upgrades and as many factors as possible are taken into account when allocating points.

    Thanks Rip!

So I've been digging into the multiplayer more and I've come across something strange. Every race starts with me easily pulling ahead of the pack, and gaining a huge amount of ground over everyone else during the first lap. Then, in the second lap, suddenly about half the cars catch up to me and zoom past like it's nothing. No matter how well I seem to be doing in the first lap, it's like the async cars all of a sudden all turn on their jet engines during the second lap.

I've literally never come in first because of this. Is this a bug I'm experiencing or some form of insane rubber banding? Has anyone else had this problem?

Yup.. Same here, great start then get left in the dust...

I have to be honest and say I haven't really gotten into this.. It's the handling model for me I think.. It just doesn't feel right.

Ditto ... i got left for dead pulling out of a turn (taken well) in a fully upgraded car with a same model car just overtook and pulled away like i was in a stock car or something ...

    Really unbalanced at the moment

I'll give a tip too .... Don't by the Tier 0 Toyota .... it oversteers like its driving on glass .... completely uncontrollable

Yeah basically what Rip said. It's asynchronous, so my apologies on being confused! That's the one downside of having to know stuff on upwards of 20-30 games, I mix things up occasionally! :X

I have the same issue. Everyday I don't compete (not racing) in the challenges I lose about 50 RP points.

Do you enter the event at all? For example, are you paying the entrance fee and then not racing?

I haven't personally experienced this when playing so I'm not sure about this. I'll make a note of it for my next report, but I would also suggest letting our support team know so they can get technical reports to our Dev team.

Feel free to use this link to submit any SS's you might have that document this.

I know what you are referring to, and no, I do not pay the entrance fee. I just load up the game to the main menu and my RP is shown in the Multiplayer box. Everyday it gets a little lower.

Okay, I'll have to mention this to the team and see if they are aware of the natural RP decay that seems to be occurring.

Please use this link for bug reports.
    http://support.gameloft.com/Home/SupportForm/288/

It passes the info on direct to the development team behind the game.

Posting it on a forum, while informative and Ryan will, of course, do an excellent job and pass it on to the appropriate team as quickly as possible, it won't necessarily help the devs see it any quicker whereas the support link will send it on to them immediately.

The devs teams themselves don't generally have the time to go through every iOS related forum on a frequent basis (they do as much as they can but they are mostly busy working on and improving the games) but they are obliged to pay attention and take note/action of every support ticket.

Gameloft Ryan, is it possible to maybe add an RPM/MPH gauge while using the interior camera? It is the only camera angle that doesn't have this. Thanks

Use the link Rip73 mentioned in his post. That's the best way to submit SS's of bugs and issues to our customer care team who then relay it over to our Dev team.

I'm not sure, I'll have to ask. This is the first time someone mentioned it :)
