The current version only has 11 or so reviews, so if you haven't had a chance to review this game, and you want to show it some love, then it's a great opportunity to really have an impact.

@ra88it: I put you post in the 1.st post of the thread. ;) (I'll assume you don't have anything against that)

@GlennX: If you want some cool GE pictures for the AppStore, ask me! :p

I left a review for the lite version. Just was wondering the thoughts about how a review of a lite version affects the visibility of the non lite version. Anyway like I stated in the review, the lite version of Ground Effect blows away many of the non lite version games for content and playability. Its a worthy addition on its own merits on anyones iphone/itouch/ipod...very nice work.

Is there no one who is willing to challenge me? It's getting lonely at the top. If not, I suppose I could just retire as the undisputed grand champion of the GE Universe. :D

I've tried but I don't quite know how you are getting those times!

What boost timings are you using?

Are you using well timed corner-cutting?

    accelerometer or touch controls?

I notice another user (blackpoppy) has also beat me, I think maybe he is your biggest threat!

I agree, altho every time I pick it up...okay maybe after 20+ tries on each track, I seem to do some thing more correct and get a little better score. I thought the GE lite contest to try and beat 7:30 combined of the 4 tracks was hard. I can imagine bettering my scores some, but I can't even envision shaving seconds off of these tracks... whats your secret?!

Here are my tips for boost timing from a few pages back. The only reason I'm remotely qualified to write this is because I wrote the code and know how it was designed to work, it's clear that others understand it better than I do.

    The Boost works like this:

    1. It builds up all the time you are moving forward.

    2. If you go through a gate cleanly, you get 10% extra.

    3. If you go outside the gate, you lose 40%.

    4. When you first press the boost, you get an 'extra kick' of speed

    5. When you first press the boost, you get an 'extra burn' as it uses up a significant chunk.

    6. If the gauge is full and you aren't boosting, you are wasting potential build up:

    Boost strategies:

    A: Just hold the button.
The most basic way to use it is to hold down the boost and each time it gets to 50%, you will get a few seconds.

    B: Maximum length boosts.
A very efficient way to use it is to let it build up to full and do the longest possible, that way you only pay a minimum 'extra burn' (5) price which outweighs the fact you are missing out on 'extra kick' (4). Obviously there are places where this doesn't work because not all of the turns and bumps can be taken flat out it's hard to avoid wasting boost (6).

    C: lots of small boosts.
Every time the gauge gets to 50%, do a quick boost. This gets a lot of 'extra kick' (4) but you pay a lot for 'extra burn' (5).

D: Medium boosts with a twist.
Instead of boosting between 50% and 0% charge, boost between 100% and 50%. This works better than strategy A because you are always at least half full and get more of a bonus for each clean gate. You do run a risk of (6) though.

E: lots of small boost with a full gauge
The same issues as (C) but with the benefits of (D)

    F: Cutting corners
Intentionally missing the gate to take a shorter route. This works on many levels but is a timing nightmare. If you miss a gate empty the cost in lost boost is negligible, if you miss it with full boost, it's substantial.

    What works best?

I use, I think, mostly a mix of B and D with a bit of carefully planned F and panicked jabbing of the boost button at the finish line.

I'd love to know what Winter413 is doing to get his times.

Thanks very much, glad you like it! I'd really appreciate a review or at least a rating on the app store, especially if you are in the US. It'd be nice to have something than the one stars I seem to have received since the rev.

    Game Impressions

You know what makes this game the most addictive thing since ground-up tetris blocks cut with cocaine? It is so deceptively simple. Playing this game is like solving a continuous series of multiple linear equations in real time. It’s a white-hot bolt of calculus that goes straight to the pleasure centers of the frontal cortex. The absolute limit of each course will probably never be known, but the possibility of putting down the perfect lap keeps me going back for more. You don’t want to know how many hours have disappeared into this game. It’s appalling.

I wasn’t aware of the kick/burn tradeoff until now, but I suspected that there was a minute advantage to boosting for longer periods. The variable burn rate adds an interesting twist... Anyway, in virtually every course, I have been following strategy D), trying to maximize gains by going through gates with 80~85% fuel. I also keep point #6 in mind, and keep loss to an absolute minimum. The only place I ever use strategy F) is at the finish line on the last lap, and only if there is an advantage to doing so.

Here is the way I fly…
-I have never used anything but the accelerometer
-I fly with the cockpit view
    -I RARELY boost while turning.
-My track over the ground is extremely angular, with as few course deviations as possible
-Most turns are initiated an instant (or two) before reaching the inside marker
-Most turns are taken extremely tight to the marker. If it looks like you missed it and went inside, but suddenly get the ‘Check Point!’ message, that’s about right.
-It’s extremely critical that each turn roll-out ends on a vector that minimizes the distance to the next obstacle or gate.

This is the most 'Pure' racing game ever created. Brilliant.

The simple answer is that, as far as we know, it doesn't. Of course it's hoped that people downloading the Lite version may be sufficiently impressed to pay for the full version and we'll eventually see some positive impact in sales. In the meantime, it's really great to know that increasing numbers of people are playing and enjoying Ground Effect. :)

Sunday night & I'm bored again... The ever generous Glenn has given me another couple of Promo Codes to do with as I will. (Can't tell you how excited I was to get the news).

OK then, if anyone would like a Promo Code, all you have to do is answer the following question:

The soundtrack of Ground Effect is by a band called 'Diefenbach'. What inspired the band's name and which famous brothers are responsible?

PM Glennx with the answer NOW! :)

Hmm... Didn't think it was that tricky. A few very good answers already but not all correct. Please keep trying if you'd like to win a code.

Hmmm... well, I added a pretty specific answer. I'm 95% sure it's correct. I guess I'll have to wait and see. :)
