SlotZ Racer BTW: I managed to wreck my hand playing Magic Carpet II years ago - it still shows signs of the injury...
How did you manage to injure yourself playing Magic Carpet? Something to do with the 3D glasses? It's cool to be revisiting the stereo 3D stuff, just a shame that this time round I won't be able to get the publisher to put a pair of 3D glasses in the box...
Was due to me using too small of a mouse for my hands - was a cute little Microsoft Home mouse, blue, and the top of the mouse was shaped like a house, had a brown chimney where the mouse cord came out (which was gray.) I couldn't find a picture on Google - too many MS Home mice! Now I use a big Logitech trackball... So, I was up at like 3am - still playing Magic Carpet II and I guess I was gripping the mouse too tight, all of a sudden my hand really hurt, worse than a cramp, almost tendon snapping pain levels... Ever since, if I relax my right hand, the muscles in the outer edge of my palm slowly tense up, as if I was stretching my small finger out or something. It's not as prominent as it was back then, but it's still there...
Wow! Can you imagine how much you might have got if you'd sued for personal injury?! Must remember to put a disclaimer in the Ground Effect smallprint...
Ground effect is exactly Nr. 100 in the top games list in Germany! I can't remember seeing it there before...
I think you were looking the wrong way. It was featured in Germany last week and was up at about 30 in top games at one point.
For 99 cents I can't believe this game isn't in the top of the racing category. its a gorgeous game with smooth controls - apple needs to give it more attention.
Totally off topic but the article just appeared in Edge mag: The Making Of: Syndicate A reprint I think. Bought back a lot of memories.
When you say 'bought' I hope you mean 'brought' cos I wouldn't like to think you'd paid for praise like this... "Corpes, originally hired as an artist, is arguably the great unsung hero of Bullfrogs meteoric rise to the videogame development A-list. Glenn was instrumental in that way, enthuses Cooper. He could see the engine; he could see the technology.... And then there was Magic Carpet. If you take him out of the equation, I dont think Bullfrog would have been anything, if you see what I mean. He was an inspiration."
Josh, thanks, it's always nice to speak to people who understand what we're trying to do. I thought the iPhone was a platform where simple games ruled. Ground Effect is about one thing: How fun it feels to master the controls around the later courses, hanging on to cliff edges as you drift sideways, learning to make obscure shortcuts and where to spend your boost most efficiently. I didn't want the 'fun' to come from working out if you should spend the cash you picked up last race on upgrading the boost or the handling. Sure, that stuff is cool but I hate losing a race in a game and wondering if I'd have done better if I'd bought exhaust 3 instead on body kit 2... I didn't want the 'fun' to come from picking up powerups of shooting people off the track. Sure, there is fun in that but it detracts from the goal of just making getting around as fast as possible feel as good as possible.
Glenn has just announced a promo code giveaway on Twitter - all you have to do is follow him before Tuesday for a chance to win one. This is a clear-out before the update comes out FOLLOW
You're waiting for that one too? I've already snatched a pair of glasses from my kids' "Shrek 3D" DVDbox! So much for Christmas spirit!
I've always got my TrackMania United Forever Limited Edition 3D glasses! (actually, I think there IS only a Limited Edition of TMUF! )
Hopefully just a few more days of work before submission. In the middle of a UI rewrite at the moment
