Played through it from start to finish on an iPhone 6 in iOS 8.4 without a single crash. On iOS 9 now, and don't know how it works with 10.
I'm on iOS 10.2.1 now, and yeah, it crashes in year two. Exact moment in the spoiler below: Spoiler After you give Virago's cigarette case to the Carla (the security officer). Just before the scene is finished, the game crashes.
Have you tried contacting [email protected]? I'd do it myself, but I haven't played the game since switching to SE (never been deleted though) and I don't wanna give them false information in case they need it.
I think it would be hard to adapt the artwork again to another aspect ratio. The jump from 4:3 to 16:9 already hurt the backgrounds with cropping and stretching. Further changes would make it look worse.
For anyone wondering, unfortunately...nope, even though it was updated in November 2017, it’s very much running how you’d expect on X/XS devices. Black borders, alongside the decorative borders, and the home bar is ever-present alongside a thin black line at the bottom of the screen. It’s far from unplayable given that it’s a point and click, but I do worry if this is Double Fine just giving up on updating their titles. I hope not.
