So this morning I decided to give this App another chance after being initially put off by the amount of frustration that went into finding compatible roms. I still don't think it's that easy to find and there's a site that requires people to actually donate in order to get the privileges. Well, I decided to look elsewhere and finally managed to get working roms. The performance leaves more to be desired, but I guess it's passable. I found a game called Spatter that I thought would just be the shortening of "Splatter" as in "Splatter House." Nope. It was a whole different game and I ended up liking it a lot anyway. I can see why people are enjoying this App as much as they are and it is nice that I don't need a jailbroken device to run some longtime favourites. Saves a lot of memory.

Depending on your device, anything ipad2/iphone4 and up is full speed on all the classic games, Donkey Kong etc. ipad3/iphone5 is required for more recent games like Street Fighter 3 and such. Getting excellent speeds on my mini for games like Metal Slug and thats about on par with an ipad2/iphone4.

I would change that to iPhone 4S and up. Even Donkey Kong is not really playable on an iPhone 4. Basically you need the A5 processor or better (iPhone 4S and iPad 2 and up.) The iPhone 4 uses the A4 processor.

Yeah. I use an iPod Touch 4. I'm not interested in upgrading anytime soon. While this vastly limits the roms that work wonderfully on the emulator, I guess I'll just bear with it. Both The Simpsons and Growl work OK. The music and movement are choppy, but meh, whatever.

Sorry to also nitpick, but iPad 1 is equivalent to iPhone 4.

iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPhone 4S are equivalent. (Retina slows iPad 3 to iPad 2 speeds)

iPad 4 and iPhone 5 are equivalent.

    hi there,

Pardon me for "hijacking" this thread but as (I think) this is the most applicable (and splendid if I may say so) thread for that Gridlee emu, the following small question :

    * I've put the game Gyruss on my iPad 3 and my iPhone 5 and noticed that the speed on my iPad 3 is dropping. Going to (eg) 30% while on my iPhone 5 it rarely gets below 90%... Also, the "partial updates" are "boosting" (lack of a better word) on my iPad.

Any ideas or suggestions? I'm running iOS 5.x on my iPad 3 (jailbroken) and iOS 6.1 on my iPhone 5 (also jailbroken).

    thanks!
    /dimi

Have you tried to apply the Speed Hack on the iPad 3?
Press "Coin" and "Start" simultainiusly to bring up the options menu, you'll find it there.
There's five or six different Speed Hacks, and one of them might help make the game more smooth.

Don't go for the aggressive speed hack right from the start though, it may make the problem worse, work your way up from normal setting and see if the game improves.

I haven't played the game myself, so that's all the advise I can give you.

does the joystick click loudly like the icade?

i just got the icade original like a month ago, and cannot stand the amount of clicks that both the joystick and the buttons make. i was trying to play it next to my wife, and she made me leave the room cause the noise was just too much.

i just jailbroke, so i can use the wii mote with classic controller for other apps, but not with gridlee. worthwhile?

    @mekanikal fiend

Sanwa makes a quiet version but they're expensive ~75USD

I assume 8 bitty is quieter than iCade at least (similar to the wiimote)

    iCade with Sanwa parts

My iCade with Sanwa parts just arrived --- GREAT WORK man!! The buttons aren't just quiet, they are super responsive, I don't feel any delays now when pulling moves in Street Fighter.

To answer a previous poster's question, the joystick still sounds the same, but it reminds me of the Neo Geo joystick clicky sound so I dig it.

As for the modified iCade, I seriously recommend it to anyone who is thinking about it -- I know I'll be using it a lot. Whenever it's time to make purchases you have to ask will it improve your daily routine. With this I can say a resounding YES! Biiig improvement!

The joysticks will make that clicking sound but its not nearly as loud as the stock joysticks. The buttons are pretty much silent. The reason for the clicking is the switches they use. You can buy a silent joystick but they are a lot more expensive. Once you get them broke in you won't hear the clicking nearly as loud as when they are brand new.

Yeah I noticed that too. The jlf series are about $20-25 and IMO that's expensive enough. The small click they make really isn't a big deal but when you have the action buttons all clicking at the same time as they joystick its really loud and annoying. With the old buttons my wife used to turn the tv way up. Now she can keep it at its usual level.

That's funny, I just stumbled over that exact page yesterday, and thought I ought to post a link to it here. :)

It's a great site, and the reviews on the games is very thorough, and it's obvious that the games they write about, is games they really enjoy.

All have loads of screenshots, and most even have a gameplay video.

It's a great place to find good Mame games, not matter what genre you're into.
