He probably meant on an iCade. I read it and thought "yeah, I do that too".

Is there a speed advantage over the iPad 4? You also mentioned that BR2 and Soul Caliber were very very playable, but even with speed hacks they are slow on the iPad 4. DOA seems about 50%.

    Q-Bert

Anyone have control mapping tips for Q-Bert? On all systems this has always been an annoying game because it plays on the diagonals. This appears to be the same. You have to play with the joystick rotated 45 degrees to the right (so that pressing up-right is really just pressing the joystick in the up direction.)

On the iCade, I tried setting the controls. It did let me map the up direction to Joy 1 Up and Joy 1 Right etc.. But that didn't work at all and Q-Bert wouldn't respond to any joystick movement.

Is this a problem with the iCades bluetooth keyboard control system? I also find that pressing the 2-Player Start button (defaulted to Joystick Up and Player 1 Start) also rarely works and I just get a one player start. And yes, I held the joystick up before I pressed the start button.

I ended up mapping the 4 directional controls to four buttons on the iCade and playing it like that.

The one in the lower right corner. I don't think it matters as long as you always use the same button to save and load.

Change options -> settings -> stick type from 'auto' to '8-way'.

I'm feeling like waiting on Christmas evening as a child.. :D
I'm guessing it'll take a week or so for the package to get all the way to Denmark.

    Thank you again!
I'm playing Shmups on Gridlee Mame more than any other games on iOS these days. Currently using my original iCade Classic and my 8-Bitty, which is great and all, but I really look forward to this unit. :)

Are the roms for .139u1 a different set than for .139? I have the full .139 set but when loaded get "the selected game is missing one or more required ROM or CHD images"

Can somebody please tell me how they got Super Mario World working on this? Also, some games, like Megaman 3, when I use a savestate, then load it, the game becomes corrupted. Does anybody know why, or is there a workaround for this?

Some games I'm haveing a problem where when I push left or right on the virtual dpad it brings up an audio bar on the bottom of the screen. It's a problem in galaga because you can't see your ship. Anyone know how to fix this?

Lol it's really not that bad if you are used to arcade control panels. I used to build joysticks and did quite abit of arcade machine restoration in the past so this is probably a lot easier for me than most. The only reason you need a multi meter is because Sanwa joysticks tend to have different color wires on each harness. On one joystick orange may be ground on another it might be black or another color. If you can find a Sanwa wiring harness with consistent wire colors it wouldn't be too bad, so you'll need to map out the wires before attaching them to the icade. The Dremel work is not bad it takes about 10 secs worth of grinding per button hole, but if you don't have a Dremel tool then it would be a hassle to enlarge the button holes.

I did this and can enter coins for players 1-4 but when I press B to start, it only starts for player 1. I went into the cheat menu though and you can set it for which character you want to be player 1 so that is how I was able to get around this. How did you get it to start for players other than player 1 though?

Press "Coin" and "Start" simultainiusly to bring up the options menu.

    Chose "Input" -> "Other Controls".

One of the last options is volume controls.
Select "volume up" and then press the ""Exit" button (on the top left of the screen).
When you press exit, it will delete any buttons assigned to that option.
Do the same with "volume down", and the problem should be solved.

Put u1 on the version below. I didn't think it mattered whoops.
Has anyone got Super Mario World to work? My own googling has failed me and I'd like to add that to this since a few people have asked. Please let us know.

    Gridlee FAQ WIP
Thanks: Seleuco!, lordbond, lurtz6, trystero, bkool2

It says the game is missing some ROM or CHD images.
a)You need files that are compatible with MAME 0.139u1. For what it's worth, there's a program similar to Gridlee for Android called "Mame4Droid" that also takes 0.139u1 roms.
b)Some games, notably Neo Geo titles, require a bios file. In other cases you might be missing a parent rom.

How can I play NES games?
You need both the Playchoice 10 bios and the Playchoice 10 version of the game itself. Once the game loads you need to set a button to "Enter" and press it to get past the black screen. See Lurtz6's post over here for a more detailed explanation.

How can I play Sega Mega Drive/Genesis games?
You need both the Mega Play bios and the Mega Play version of the game. Again set a button to "Enter" to get past the first screen.

Street Fighter III runs very slowly.
On iPhone 5 and iPad 4th Gen turn on the "Very Aggressive" speed hack to play at normal speed.

How can I make the blood red in Metal Slug?
COIN+START -> Service -> Setting up the SOFT DIP -> SLOT1 METAL SLUG -> scroll down

Can you clear a button binding?
Press the exit button to set a button to "None."

I changed the Start/Coin buttons and I can't even bring up the Gridlee menu.
Open the app in a file browser on your computer and delete the messed up cfg file(s) at:
Gridlee app -> Documents -> cfg
Next time you run the game the program will create a new cfg file with default controls.

    This program is so cool!
If you're feeling very enthusiastic, you could donate to the dev. From the main menu Options -> Settings -> Donate.
