I have and iPad 3 and iPad 4. A lot more games on the 4 do not need speed hacks and most games that are slow on the 3 even with speed hacks are smooth with speed hacks on the 4. That said, a ton of games play great on the 3 Also have an iPod 4 and it is slower, but a lot of games work great. More than I expected.
There really isn't a whole lot you can do with an "old" phone like the 4. What I've done is turn the input animation off and reduce the sound quality to 22KHz, and although it doesn't provide a gigantic improvement, it still helps. There's many times that I have to keep reminding myself that MAME's priority is accuracy and not optimization. Then I wonder if it's time to upgrade to a 5 just so I can play Frogger at 100%...
iMAME4ALL runs off an old build of MAME that prioritized speed over accuracy. Did you pick it up when it appeared in AppStore in late 2011?
Which version of sfIII third strike are people getting to work? I have tried several roms with no luck thus far. To be clear, I am not asking for where to find roms...just the name of the version of the 139u1 rom that works. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, any feedback with how the 8 bitty works with the street fighter games? It is hard to execute dragon punches consistently with the touch stick or d-pad so was hoping the 8 bitty would yield better results Any relevant feedback would be appreciated.
For sf3 you'll want to run iFBA on a jailbroken device. It runs pretty well. In fact all cps3 games run well on it. I personally don't care for the interface much, but other than that its a good emulator.
Street Fighter 3 runs fine on iPhone 5 with "very aggressive" speed hack turned on. The name of the file isn't necessarily what's messing up Gridlee. Third Strike is always called "sfiii3". I don't have a very solid understanding of the whole different version thing but I think the file names (and sizes) of the files within the zip are different. There are programs (for win at least) that will convert one version of a rom to another but it seems like a serious hassle. If you're having a hard time doing dragon punches on sf2 with touch screen I can at least say that they're easier in sf3. Then going back to sf2 I don't know if the default cheat file has it but you should be able to find mame cheats that let you do special moves with one direction + button.
Gridlee FAQ WIP Thanks: Seleuco!, lordbond, lurtz6, trystero, bkool2 It says the game is missing some ROM or CHD images. a)You need files that are compatible with MAME 0.139. For what it's worth, there's a program similar to Gridlee for Android called "Mame4Droid" that also takes 0.139 roms. b)Some games, notably Neo Geo titles, require a bios file. In other cases you might be missing a parent rom. How can I play NES games? You need both the Playchoice 10 bios and the Playchoice 10 version of the game itself. Once the game loads you need to set a button to "Enter" and press it to get past the black screen. See Lurtz6's post over here for a more detailed explanation. How can I play Sega Mega Drive/Genesis games? You need both the Mega Play bios and the Mega Play version of the game. Again set a button to "Enter" to get past the first screen. Street Fighter III runs very slowly. On iPhone 5 and iPad 4th Gen turn on the "Very Aggressive" speed hack to play at normal speed. How can I make the blood red in Metal Slug? COIN+START -> Service -> Setting up the SOFT DIP -> SLOT1 METAL SLUG -> scroll down Can you clear a button binding? Press the exit button to set a button to "None." I changed the Start/Coin buttons and I can't even bring up the Gridlee menu. Open the app in a file browser on your computer and delete the messed up cfg file(s) at: Gridlee app -> Documents -> cfgNext time you run the game the program will create a new cfg file with default controls. This program is so cool! If you're feeling very enthusiastic, you could donate to the dev. From the main menu Options -> Settings -> Donate.
I have seen a post mentioning Bloody Roar 2 and Soul Caliber play very very good, but on my iPad 4, they both play slow even with speed hacks. I expected this, since even slower on my Tegra 3 devices and neither game is full speed on some laptops. It is of course slower on the iPad 3, but a lot of games play great. Seems respectfully an exaggeration they play very very good, but the enthusiasm is cool Added: It would rock if they did play smooth. Then, Dead or Alive would be smooth too
Get iFBA from cydia, I have an iPad 4 and those roms that plays slow or doesn't play at all can be played there. No CHDs or other files needed, unlike this trash.
Unfortunately I did not, as I didn't have iOS 5 installed at that time (which was required for installation). I was obviously more than a little surprised to see that it somehow passed Apple's muster and cursed myself for not having the means to update my phone at the time so I could grab it. That's why I made sure to scoop up Gridlee quickly after the TA app gave me an alert about it. Still surprised it hasn't been pulled yet. I guess the lack of horsepower is a small complaint being that several games are still playable even at 80-90% speed. I even put up with playing a slowly chugging, crippled Gyruss just because it's friggin' Gyruss on my phone! Besides, it's kinda fun to throw some ROMs in there and see what runs well. Some of those moldy oldies aren't all that bad.
Has anyone had luck with getting the cps 1 street fighter (street fighter 2, champion edition, or hyper fighting) games to run? I have had no such luck
Those two games do not work with Final Burn. Speaking of iFBA, is it possible to install that with iFunbox, or does the device need to be jailbreaked? Final Burn is less resource heavy for some games. I have a version on my Android devices along with MAME 139.
for me run very good both games run at 80% on my iphone 5,full playable. also beastorizer works like a charm to.
How come I can't save state in the game? I press the option to open save state. It asks me to select position to save to, but there is nothing to select. Help?
