Thanks for this. I've been following this thread since the beginning but didn't remember this post. I haven't been able to get any Playchoice 10 games to work (well, I'm only interested in Super Mario Bros and Tecmo Bowl) but I went to Google and your post appeared at the top of the search page. Pretty scary actually.
I got it to work. I hit the service button (touch Coin and Start at the same time and go down to Service). It didn't seem to do anything but once I exited the game and went back in it worked. This also worked for Defender and Joust.
Have you noticed that Gridlee hasn't been removed from the App Store? I guess Seleuco found the right way to get MAME to the App Store
I have my play choice games work very well, while us there anyone knows why my contra always run into black screen or screen freeze in section 3 or 4? Where can I download a good rom to plan till the end? Thanks!
I'm pretty sure I remember reading something like the playchoice 10 games have a hidden timer in the background that you gotta disable. I'm sorry I don't rember where in the options that is off the top of my head. Edit: Found it. Press coin+start. Go to dip switches then down to timer speed and make that say free play. You shouldn't get a black screen anymore.
This fixes the the giant joystick that appears when you go into the full screen portrait mode on an iPad. I'm new to this and it took me a little bit to figure this out so I thought I'd post a noobie walkthrough on this. Sorry, to most of you here that are exprerienced, this is very ABC 123. I'm using iFunBox. You will want to access the Gridlee files using iFunBox (or whatever program you choose.) In the Gridlee.app folder is a folder called SKIN_1. In iFunBox you will have to open the Gridlee.app folder using the icons on the right (by double clicking it) as opposed to the explorer type folders on the left (for some reason there is no right-click options on the explorer type icons on the left.) Once opened right-click the SKIN_1 folder and select Copy From PC. Select a location on your hard drive to save the folder (this copies the folder and its contents to your hard drive in the location you selected.) Minimize iFunBox and then access the SKIN_1 folder that you saved on your hard drive and open the text file named controller_portrait_full_iPad.txt. The second to the last line in that file reads (without quotes) "624//radio_stick". Delete the "4" in "624" so that it reads "62" and close the text editor (saving changes or course.) You now need to copy the entire new SKIN_1 folder from your hard drive with the modified controller_portrait_full_iPad.txt into the Documents folder in Gridlee. To do this I had to open the documents folder in iFunBox and then drag and drop the folder from where I had saved it on my hard drive (there may be other ways to do this but I couldn't find any.) Once this is done Gridlee will ignore the SKIN_1 folder in the Gridlee.app folder and will use the new one in the Documents folder which fixes the joystick size problem.
So am I reading it correctly that Gridlee is more up to date than the jailbreak MAME? Is that going to change? Because I'm jailbroken now.
So much for my theory that the ROMs for older games that have been working in MAME for a long time should not really change very often. MAME .148 was just released and I saw the list of changed zips and it was quite long. It even included games like Space Invaders and Galaxian. No wonder people are having so much trouble with ROMs.
I don't think that Gridlee can emulate console games. It's based off of MAME which emulates coin operated games. I thought that it could emulate SNES because of some of games that people were playing, but it turned out to be Nintendo Super System games which were coin operated.
I'm wondering if the hiscore.dat would work if the dat file could be placed in the same folder as the MAME program. With iFunBox, I am not able to place the file in the folder that I believe houses the main application. Can anyone place the file in with another program? Would it work for the jailbreak version? I'm holding off on the jailbreak for now as I wish to keep my phone stable. I had too many "safe mode" events with my 3GS.
MAME no longer supports his core.dat file. I have tried to add the auto save option using the MAME.ini file but as of yet I have not been able to get it to work. You can use the save/load state function to save high scores but that is a manual process. Jail breaking your phone was not causing your safe mode issues. It was probably one persons piece of code that was conflicting with another application. The programs have gone through many updates by now and very few problems arise now.
