After looking up the Nintendo Super System (NSS), I think I finally understand why some on this thread kept stating SNES wasn't supported while others were able to play certain SNES games. While MAME supports NSS which was a coin operated video game playing some SNES titles (http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8894), MAME doesn't support the SNES titles I wanted.

I never used MAME for any games beyond the 1980's so I had no idea what the Nintendo Super System game was. Do I have it right?

Nope that is a different button layout than what I get. The L button is above the joystick. The layout I want has the L and R buttons next to the blue buttons. I still wonder if there is a way to maneuver where the buttons are placed. I remember some apps or emu apps allowing you to do such things if I recall correctly. I would definitely like to see how a game such as xmen vs street fighters button layout is on ipad compared to what it is showing for my iphone.

I don't know what settings I've messed with, but I couldn't get all buttons side by side, and I knew it was that way when I first installed Gridlee.

I deleted the app and did a re-install, and whatdoyouknow... :

THAT! That right there is exactly what I'm looking for. All you did was uninstall it and then reinstall it and it came up like that? What iDevice are you using? Ipad 2 right? I wonder if there is differences between ipads and ipods/iphones with layouts and what restrictions they have.

Correct. The Nintendo super system was nintendos arcade platform. It was more popular overseas in Asian countries but never really made it very big over here. The most popular being the original super mario bros. I actually played super mario 3 in the arcades in Seoul Korea about 6 months before it came out over here. Was kind of cool to already be playing the game while kids over here were still waiting and reading about it in Nintendo power.

I'm using an iPad 3, and both those games in the screenshots is running badly. Mostly the sound is messed up, and almost unbearable to listen to.
I did try earlier Street Fighter 2&3 Editions, they ran just fine though.

MK2 &MK3 runs like shit, but MK1 runs fine. Not really my cup of tea anymore though, I never could remember those Fatality moves anyway, and can't be bothered memorizing all the different moves.
The same goes for the Street Fighter games.

However, the buttons aligned like that after a reinstall, and I don't know what I'd done before to mess them up.

Can't find any settings for that, however, I had messed around a lot in the other 'Input Settings' menu that comes up when you press 'Coin' and 'Start' simultainiusly.

I don't have the patience at the moment to try and install the games on my iPhone 4S right now, so I don't know if the buttons is set up like on the iPad, but if I were you, I'd try a complete reinstall.

You didn't have to uninstall it to get the old button layout back, just go to settings/skins/A..
You previously changed it to b layout so you wouldn't get a huge stick on the screen when playing n portrait mode.

It makes me think that the 6 button layout is only for ipads since its a larger screen and they programmed the iphone versions to move the L/R buttons so they didnt take up the whole screen.. but that is just my guess. If anyone can find a way to get that layout on an iphone, you would be deemed awesome in my book.

for me i go into landscape with the device and there lined up perfect for 6 button fighters, go to options, settings, under input touch type i use either analog stick or digital pad depending on game, tbe stick type 8 way, full screen buttons is set to all buttons... under portrait i use smoothed image, full screen and maintain aspect ratio, landscape is smooth image, full screen, and keep aspect ratio..also skin at bottom im using A. but for SF A2 or SF A 3 nightwarrors - dark stalkers 2 all work perfect.... lined up like a arcade cabinet unless in portrait there slanted a bit... im on a ipad also...

Yeah, look for the NO CD versions, otherwise make sure you have the correct CHD and put it inside of your sf3 zip file. Once launched, the game will need to "load" the chd which can take up to 30 minutes. I recommend just using the no cd versions.

oh so rather then making a folder of same name of rom in roms folder with chd files in it, i can just toss the chds in the actual roms zip file ill try that...

    LOL

Isn't it great when other TA members remember how and when you've messed up?

Thank you Midas. You're absolutely correct. :)

Yes inside the rom zip itself.

I'm serious when I say the CHD has to load, and its by no means quick. Honestly, get the no cd versions ;)

Looks great. I have GoldLeaf modded buttons myself. They have softer springs and leaf switches. Great for rapid fire games. Are your buttons leaf or micro switched?

Also is your joystick fully replaced or is that just a new ball top with an 8-way restrictor plate? I heard the 4-way restrictor plate that comes with iCade can be rotated 45 degrees to make it better for more games, but I'm surprised iON didn't go with an 8-way from the get go.

In all honesty, I have to say I'm even impressed iON went with actual arcade parts to begin with - even if they are the low end ones.

I had to switch the damned white keys over so my hands weren't so close to the joystick when playing street fighter. The iCade version I have has the inner-most buttons hard mapped and they don't work well when trying to press multiple buttons together to get into custom combo mode in SFA2.

    Sf 3

I wasn't having any luck with the NO-CD SFiii and I did the CHD in the roms folder method. I think I waited an hour, but it did install it, and now when I load the game it loads like normal.
So if you're stuck it's worth it, just leave your phone on for 1 hour and go do something else -- or get the correct NO-CD version:)

They are the standard Sanwa 30mm buttons with micro switches. The sticks are sanwa jlf series, they are about $25-30/ea. I only have the octagonal restriction plate on the icade the icade core has a 4 way plate as I couldn't find another 8 way. I have more 8 way plates but they must be in my storage unit. I don't think the 4 way plates can be rotated as there are 4 tabs that hold it in place and rotating it 90-180 degrees would have no effect. I like the Sanwa parts as I used to own a couple candy cab arcade machines and always had Sanwa or seimitsu parts in them. Of course I usually ended up swapping out the seimitsu parts for Sanwas during cleanup and restoration of the machines.

8 way plates tend to be expensive to I can see why they didn't use them. I am very glad they built the units as easily accessible as they did. You will need a torx security bit, you can buy those at extreme-mods.com for $3. You will also have to Dremel out the button holes a tad if you plan on using Sanwa parts. The joystick actually mounts up exactly like the old one and is very easy to switch out. You'll just need to solder the wires for up, down, left, right and ground. It seems like they use a cheap Sanwa joystick in them from the factory but I'd rather use a higher quality model instead. But Sanwa has a special plate pattern that I've not seen on other brands so that's what makes me think they are cheap Sanwa knock offs. And the restrictor plate is exactly the same as Sanwas design so those two factors together make a pretty compelling argument IMO. Anyhow the buttons are attached with connectors that slide on and off easily so switching out buttons is not very difficult apart from the dremeling.
