I have it working on mine. You need to get a 139u1 version of the rom or use clrmame to fix the romset with the proper fixdat file
I really enjoy having these old games on my iDevices, but I am noticing that several of these games aren't very playable due to lack of extra controls or speed of the input. For instance, in Boot Hill or Tron (esp the cone), you can control where man moves, but can't control the arm that shoots because the one button available is for shooting. As for the speed of some input, in Tempest, I have a difficult time controlling the speed of the shooter that spins around the outer tube. For Hogan's Alley and Duck Hunt, it is difficult to aim the gun as the cursor flies across the screen. While one could slow down the sensitivity, it will effect the time to aim. What would really help in those games is a trackpad input rather than an 8 way joystick. Anyone have any ideas to make such games more playable?
For those wondering, the speed on the iPad Mini is very good for most everything I've tried with the exception of Snes (nintendo super system), Genesis (megaplay/tech) and the obvious CPS3, SFEX. NeoGeo runs excellent, including Metal Slug X-5, as well as all the classics such as Altered Beast, Dig Dug, Pacman, Punchout and so on.
Have anyone get virtua cop 2 working? I just cant get it to show up on rom list. Does that mean it is fake or it is just not working with this? Btw does mame work with keyboard?
What? How? huh? Ok, I got it on my iPad Mini but I have no idea how to load roms and even get to the screen with all the rom selections......... can someone help a noob like me?
You could start by reading through this thread and use google!! I'm sorry but i'm done helping 1 post count members
I havent tried it, dont have an external keyboard 'but' i reckon it would do as basically iCade is just a series of key presses which is mapped to the joystick. So i'm sure you can use the keyboard, however i'm not sure what the keys would be so it might not be that playable if theyre all over the place. Dont get me wrong i like to help people but when someone turns up with 1 post, a complete newbie and instantly asks for help without even trying, then nah i'm not helping them if they cant be bothered to even go through the pages of this thread. The roms probably dont work as theyre not the right set, i mean just going to page 1 of this thread the initial post tells you what version they need to be. If you cant be bothered to check even the first page then you're on your own.
And super mario bros 1, and super mario bros 2 and super mario world! More mario than you could ever handle
And NES Castlevania and NES Contra ! Tried out the save/load state on Mario this morning, got to level 1-2 and saved it, stopped the app, went back in, loaded up the saved state, bit buggy at first on the screen but moving forward it sorted itself out and i could carry on. I mean JUST having Mario 1 (and 2/3 !) on my ipod is amazing
Thanks for the reply! Was thinking about keyboard because its cheaper than icade but maybe i have to go with icade. Is there any other controllers which cheaper than icade and works with mame? I know iMpulse but its so small.
I used to use my '8-bitty' on the older version of MAME. The key mapping for other games isnt great (eg shoulder button to jump on League of Evil) but for MAME it was perfect. I would try it with this version (presume it'll be the same) but i'm about to move house so its packed away, its like Raiders of the Lost Ark down here with all the boxes so i'm unsure what one its in ! But the 8-bitty, do a search for it, should be quite cheap and works well with MAME
How to get the roms onto your iDevice and play! http://www.idownloadblog.com/2013/01/27/mame-gridlee-guide/ Find your own roms though...
Nice guide. Remember to start Gridlee once (and then it creates the directories for you). If you instantly use iexplorer you wont see any roms folder, so its quite clever. The second you start the app, then use iExplorer the documents/roms folder etc are all created. Very cunning ! The main problem lots of 1 posters are having is theyre simply using the wrong rom format. Granted it takes a bit of digging around but they're out there. Try the wrong rom format and you'll get a big red error note saying its not compatible/file missing etc. In the past i've had problems if the other files arent present, eg commando1.zip, commando1jpn.zip, commando1b.zip etc. So instead of just putting in the one zip file, i put in all the associated ones. Perhaps i dont need them all but for some games it had an error if it was the one file, any associated files i added it then worked. So i've done the same for all of mine.
Anyone manage to get Street Fighter III 3rd Strike: Fight for the Future work?? Been trying a few roms.. still cant get it to work...
