I can confirm all the metal slugs 1,2,X,3,4,5 work flawlessly. Of course 2 will have slowdown but thats due to the game itself and not MAME. I have the original MVS cart of it and the slowdown is present even on full commercial hardware (NEO GEO MVS). On a side note you can go into the "service" menu and change it to "blood on" and then have blood in the game. A nice feature is once this is set you never need to set it again. Also for those who may wonder what the difference is between the "Home and MVS" versions its just how many continues you get. On home version you are limited to 5 (i think) on MVS its unlimited (just add another coin). In fact this version of MAME seems to emulate all NEO GEO games flawlessly, which is a huge bonus. Well done seluco!
I've got the right version of the roms. But i cant get Bombjack to work (one of my favourites (Bombjack Twin works fine) and also New Zealand Story keeps playing some weird stuttery music like its corrupt. Anyone had luck with those two ?
Has anyone tried the TV out feature on this? Wondering how well it works and if there is any lag involved. I will probably try it out this afternoon, but figured i'd ask.
You can add the bios to the zip file and it will work just fine that way. I actually obtained a romset with the bios's preinstalled in the zip files so each file is a self contained version of the game. Kind of nice and someone put in alot of work making it happen. It also includes all dependents of the game(s), so each zip file just works.
Got all the games I needed from the link, thanks! Everyone should visit it. Edit: referring to killy's link Edit: since I got a bunch of pm's, check post 715 for said link. Edit: since people are still messaging me, the mods did not remove the link. That link was his original post.
I'm surprised how many of the ROMs seem to have changed since .139u1. Back when I kept full current sets (now we're talking pre-version .100) it didn't seem like that many would change from version to version. Usually just a few ROMs that they were still working on perfecting the emulation of would change and new ROMs would be added. Games that had been working fine for years (Galaga) would rarely change. It did seem like every once in awhile they would change the way some core component of MAME worked and it would mess up a lot of ROM sets. That's why I asked earlier if there was a reason .139u1 was used. I'm just trying to figure out if there is a reason so many old, longtime working, games won't run using the current .148 ROMs. Sorry, if it's a dumb question, I haven't messed with MAME in a long time. Loving it on the iPad though.
Nah, not a dumb question. But not one I have an answer to either. Most of the "problem" titles posted here have to do with the parent files not being embedded, as expected by this version, in the zip file of the child.
Tried so many ROMs with high ratings and nothing seems to happen when I drag and drop iFunbox. Nothing on the app changes, anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Do I have to close the app? Put my iPod on standby?
yes you have to go to ifunbox classic, connected devices, user applications, gridlee, documents, roms.
Make shure the rom's are zipped and placed in the rom folder on gridlee. don't forget for playchoice10 games etc. you also need to add the playchoice10 etc. bios in the rom folder. After that press "reload rom's" in the app and you should see the games you added in the list.
both digdug and rastan had a link to a mame 133 bios file. But there are so many zipped folders in there I don't know which goes with which rom? I'm currently trying to do some research, no luck yet.
Thanks mate, I appreciated the pm too! I'm just dragging and dropping the ROMs as soon as I download them into the Itoolbox Rom section. It's worked once, but all the other times it just does nothing. They go into the folder, but don't show up on my phone. Also at the bottom it says "idle" with a spinning circle.
AFAIK, MAME devs were trying to find a way of naming the ROMs with certain logic regarding the motherboards and the position of the chips in them. I think that's the reason for the name changes from .37 to .139. What I'm not sure is why there are so many changes from .139 to .148. I use the ROMs for .144 and they seem to work flawlessly. Anyway, I'm not into the "grab all ROMs", just the dozen I use.
The first time you drop in the files, assuming you opened Gridlee, you need to close it and relaunch (Home button, double-press Home button, tap and hold Gridlee, hit the red X, Home button, relaunch Gridlee).
A few quick tips I'm not sure have been mentioned: 1. For a more authentic experience make sure to disable 'Smoothed image' and enable 'Force Pixel Aspect'. You can also set scanlines if that's your bag. 2. Some games have two monitors (playchoice10, X-men 6p, TecmoBowl, etc). To enable dual monitor view hit coin+start while in game and go to 'video options'. You'll see the options listed for dual monitors. Awesome feature. Especially coupled with TV Out. 3. Filters are your friends. Especially with large romsets. Set them in the 'options' menu. 4. Here are few obscure-ish game recommendations: Osman, Funky Jet, Hook. Enjoy and have fun!
