After having to put up with all those crappy Contra ports in the app store for so long, there's something extremely satisfying about playing the original version and having it run well.
Nostalgia. Most of us played Contra as a kid, but not Metal Slug. Quite the price difference for our parents Curious about the playchoice roms. I don't see a timer anywhere. Is it just going on in the background?
Man, catching up on new posts at the end of the day is rough, but worth it. Was already wondering if iOS 6.1 would bork this thing, now I know it won't (though I'll still procrastinate on updating like I usually do). As I said before, I'm just glad I have a chance to finally get MAME on my device and to have a chance to play games that'll have little to no chance of seeing any sort of iOS port. Wish there was a Flick control option like in the official Pac-Apps or drag controls for the Breakout types, but hey, having Pengo on my phone is still awesome!
There's no possibility that I'm aware of, where updating your device firmware will have any impact on an app that that's legitimately available in the App Store - pulled or not. In fact, is there a reason why Gridlee could get pulled? The devs have legitimate and fully legal rights to the Gridlee ROMS and there's no adding files via iTunes. The ability to add files to Gridlee via a separate program, is surely also possible with almost every other app too, Isn't it?
I have an iCade at home, which with iCade I don't remember issues with mapping controls with iMame. With Gridlee on my iphone, I'm struggling to even map anything. I am pressing B and the direction or button I want in Game input but it seems to be greyed out. Just trying to get controls right for SMB 3 as currently I can't move UP on the map! Any help appreciated!!!
Apple has a "no emulators" clause in their devloper contracts. It goes back to apple does not want apps to be able to run unapproved 3rd party code as it could pose security risks for the end users. It is silly in some cases but it is a ligimate part of the contract devlopers make with apple.
No. The original cabinet had two screens. One for the game itself and one for game select menu (thus the need for an enter button to choose desired game), timer countdown, game instructions.
Yes, the developer did not get permission from the MAME team. Even though MAME is open source the MAMEdev team have trademarked and copyrighted it and you must get permission to distribute it. I only know this because I was looking at the MAME World forums and there was a thread where the developer of Gridlee was exchanging posts with some of the MAME dev team that hang out on the site. One of them was the guy who fields the requests for permission to use MAME. One of the conditions they gave him to gain permission was that the app will have to be updated to run Gridlee only. I got the impression the developer wants to just leave it out there until it gets pulled. He's always assumed it would get pulled anyway. I just don't think he realized it might get pulled because the MAME team themselves will ask Apple to pull it. He thought they would be happy that MAME was "available to more people" but it doesn't work that way.
I'm not at a computer at the moment (I'm using the TA iPhone app) or I would. Just Google MAME World (it's probably the biggest and most popular MAME resource on the net that doesn't have ROMs) and go to the forums. Easy to find.
Thanks for the reply. I was playi g for a while last night and never got booted off or anything. Does this version of mame automatically kill the timer? I do t see an option in the dip switches or the cheat menu. Only an option for time duration per coin.
Use the 2 player rom instead of the 4 player. I have TMNT and Simpsons JAMMA boards and had to buy the 2 player conversions for both of them in order to be able to choose your character. Same principle works for MAME.
I love the metal slug series. In fact i got into NEO GEO MVS collecting just because of it. Had over 100 MVS carts at one point in time including all the metal slugs
Not true. A lot trolling on that forum. It's funny. Currently Nicola Salmoria has the trademark not a particularly mame developer. http://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=78578919&caseType=SERIAL_NO&searchType=statusSearch. Gridlee is not using his trademark anyway. Do to know what is a trademark? I have not an officially warning about mame team. I will pull the app if they request me. But the droid version is up last two years without problem. Anyway, the app will be pulled by Apple. That's true. Backup it.
