Just realised now I have to do that! Do I have to do via a computer, or is there apps I can download?

I've managed to find working versions of a lot of my favorite games, but for the life of me King of Dragons is impossible to find!

I'm on an iPhone 4 and yes some games are choppy -- lowering the sound and turning off the joystick animations does help, plus using speed hack.

Now my question is, why are simple games so choppy on iphone 4? Would a future update to this app be able to fix those issues?

You'll need to do on a computer, then load them to your iPhone via the PC app iFunbox.

0.139u1 ROMs are impossible to find. I don't understand where all of you are getting copies of these games that are compatible. A good 90% of the games I've found won't work and since I can't find 0.139u1 version ROMs, this is pretty useless. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Read the whole topic and it was no help and I have previous MAME experience. I knew it was too good to be true.

I can get the some of the PlayChoice 10 games to load in MAME for Mac OS X, but the same roms will not load in iOS. I have the ROMS and the playch10.zip bios file in the ROMS folder, the same as on the Mac, but no dice. Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks for the reply! I'm an idiot - I won't lie - can I break my iPhone doing this? Is it easy to do?

Its doubtful this app will last the rest of today on the app store let alone be around for another update. The speed of the rom is dependent on the speed of the app (MAME) and the device it is being run on. Any new updates on the app (unless another version of MAME was being emulated) would have no effect on performance. The reason the original imame4all ran so well is because it was based on a much older version with far fewer games being supported. As MAME evolves to include more games the core app requires more resources in order to keep performance on par with the commercial version of the arcade boards. So if you are not using the fastest hardware (i.e.: iphone 5, ipad 4) then you will not see the best performance possible. If you are using the latest hardware then the performance you have right now is as good as it'll be until new hardware comes out.

You won't break your phone in all likelihood but if you aren't comfortable with what you are doing then this isn't for you. You can mess up your phone if you deleted or moved the wrong files, so the possibility is there for catastrophe, but the likelihood of that happening are slim.

We should have a sticky on the first post, would cut down all the repeated questions I keep reading.

For simplicity i recommend most seek out the romset that was made for imame4android that includes the 139u1 romset and each zip file is self contained. Each zip file has all the files needed in order to run that game including bios's. So you can pick and choose which games to play without needing to worry about dependancies or bios files. It will get you up and running quickly with the least amount of hassle. A small tip: XNA (I won't give out any more info, so don't bother asking).

You can't sticky a post, but you can sticky a topic. Probably won't happen, but all the information can be found on the first 5-10 pages of this thread. The remaining pages are mostly just people bragging about games they got to work and others asking them how they did it. To summarize you'll need to run the gridlee game once and then add your .139u1 roms to the roms folder using ifunbox or iexplorer. Don't bother using older or newer romsets, some games may work but most won't. Just find the right romset and you'll be fine.

Why would anyone bother to do that? If you can't find the information here then you don't need to mess with this stuff. If its over your head then just move on. Nobody is going to force feed you information to get you up and running. The internet doesn't work like that. You can actively seek out the information yourself, but asking others to give that info to you just won't happen.

I would only really put on mario bros, as long as there was a file that was legit I'd be comfortable. I watched a video and all the guy really did was drag and drop the file in - seems easy enough. I just have a tendency to be an idiot. As long as its just as simple as that I'd be fine.

Super Mario world 2? Didn't know such thing existed. In any case the 0.139u1 set was pretty easy to find, you can find it on the first page of your google search. Good time to practice!

And yea brain fart, forgot you don't sticky posts =p

Also add the fact I've pointed out above: most re-releases are at least much better optimized (see Metal Slug 1/3 - it stutters in MAME on even top hardware but perfectly playable as a native app) and, in most cases, hugely enhanced.

I don't think anyone would want to play the MAME (C64 etc.) versions of, say, Boulder Dash with hugely enhanced and in most cases (for example, Boulder Dash XL is on sale at $1) cheap versions around.

We only need emulators to play games we, otherwise, couldn't have ANY access to. This is why I consider Apple's sticking with "no emulators allowed" particularly anti-consumer, particularly after seeing competing platforms' much more liberal rules.

It seems harder to find individual files than the entire romset IMO. I've done some searching for the numerous arcade JAMMA boards I own and its nearly impossible to find a .139u1 compatible version outside the romset. But if you can find the individual file on its own, then you did good.

Who needs romsets anyway. I just take my time adding one game at a time. Romsets have 2000+ files and over 500 games. It's more prefered for me to just remember my favorites one title at a time then just add them.
