Looking forward to this game. I like the multilayered terrain. Adding the dimention of height always brings some interesting tactics to TBS's.
I get it now, thanks. Sounds like a game I should give a try. It isn't really that big a deal in GLWG as you don't tend to end up with loads and loads of units anyway.
Quick question; how long does the average battle take to play through? Just wondering whether this is suitable for a quick blast on the bus, or whether it takes a bit longer than that? Another reason why the skirmish mode would've been good I guess, with customisable random maps. All pie in the sky I know
I'd guess the later levels take about 30-45 minutes. Somewhere around that figure, certainly. This game isn't about massive armageddon tank wars, as it's aimed at the more casual player. That's not to say that big fights don't break out here and there, just that it's not the central feature.
Yep, sounds good to me. The scale sounds very much like Advance Wars, though I like the added tactics based around the use of terrain.
I have no idea how devs work the magic they do (computers scare me) but if the game is out imminently how can there still be time for beta testing? I'm unreasonably excited about playing this so I'm hopefull the release schedule is still on track.
The iPod Touch 2G has similar specs to the iPhone 3G, right? If so, then you might be out of luck. =/
Regarding time timeline, we intend to spend the rest of next week finalising a load of balancing and minor issues and there are a couple of holes in the AI that need a few more days to fix properly. That should take us to the end of the week and then we'll getting in touch with all those who graciously offered to test it for us. This is not going to be a deep Beta as we've been in that state already. What we're looking for is a last chance for a fresh sets of eyes to give us feedback on what's confusing, what's not so good etc. Hopefully there'll be nothing major come up, but assuming so is just arrogant and possibly suicidal. If that goes well and doesn't feature any "oh sh!t" moments, then we intend to put it up for sale about a week after. 2G is not happening unfortunately. We don't own one, but I'm assuming it has less or similar power at best to 3G which just doesn't give a useable frame rate.
Thanks Paul, for answering it... if it all (the launch without bug fixes) goes smooth & gets a lot of interest by the legacy device owners, is there slighty ever an option that you all could tone down the gfx? how about animation off option? does that cut it? ikno that's the selling point of the game! but something's better than nothing, right?
We already tried turning stuff off etc. I was desperate to have it work on 3G as quite apart from any lost sales, that's the device I personally own. :S It's just not happening though, 3G and before really can't do enough 3D at a good frame rate to be playable. The only 3D game I've seen running well on my own 3G phone was basically some blocky characters running around on a landscape that was just a textured quad. tbh I don't really know why these devices seem so very bad. Sure they have inferior hardware compared to newer machines, but not by *that* much. Maybe this is Apple's fault and they need to look at their drivers...
Well, with the money this badboy'll mint, you surely can have an iPhone 5 (this is March already!) & an iPad 3.... you do truly deserve a success story! Thanks for making attempts to make it run on the legacy devices (as they have become) Check msg sent!
Hi guys, I had a look on your development blog (http://www.rubicondev.com/) and I noted the following regarding GLWG: "Our self-funded creation, coming soon to the AppStore and soon afterwards for PC and other formats…". I was just wondering what "other formats" you have in mind? As I said before, I think this would be an absolute beauty for the Xbox 360 Live Arcade; what are the chances? Is it dependant on success in the App Store?
As someone who isn't a big Advance Wars fan but I love games like FF tactics and Fire Emblem would I like this game?
I mailed you privately about this, though I don't seem to be having too much success with that feature! PC and Mac are obvious choices as it already runs on a PC in native fashion and the Mac build wouldn't be far behind. Our wet dream other platforms beyond iOS would be PSP2 (NGP) and of course the new Nintendo 3DS. However as a tiny dev we're finding it hard to get kit, despite being fully registered devs and all that gubbins. Hell will freeze over before we go back to XBLA though, it's a long old story that I'd care not to revisit tbh. Let's just say there's no longer anything indie friendly about XBLA. XBLIG is C# and that'd be too time consuming for the returns I hear others have had with fairly decent looking titles. tldr version: The 360 is the only platform the game is guaranteed not to appear on. Sorry, lol.
I'm tempted to just say "of course you will" There will be a lite version for free so I'd suggest you try it for yourself, please.
