Can totally see what you're saying there. I do think a skirmish mode would give great replayability, but the bottom line is that you've got a great looking game and a concept that is sorely lacking on the App Store at the moment.

At least get this one out there, see how it does and then take it from there - if you give everyone everything they want in the first release then you'll have nowhere to go, and no more money to make from the game. Particularly if you include something like a Skirmish mode which will give limitless replayability. Good strategy in my book. ;)

I think this will sell by the bucketload, with or without a Skirmish mode; the only thing I can think of similar to this is Mecho Wars, but that really is a terrible looking game imho!

    Wow, this looks amazing!
I'll definitely apply for testing tomorrow. Until then, try not to fill up all the spots. :>

haha, very Wormsy! I hope you sampled a few Westcountry folk for that! Well you can be assured that I'll be picking up everything going, sounds like an utter bargain to me.

I guess with the IAP, you can sell extra mission packs down the road too, to keep injecting interest in the game, and extra revenue for you guys :)

Think I've watched the video on your website about 10 times now, and I keep getting more and more excited! haha! Deary me!

It looks like Cannon Fodder, Advance Wars and Worms all rolled into one. Ah, please get this onto the 360; I'd love to play against the Mrs on this!

Final question (mainly cos the Mrs is nagging me to help with the washing up!); have you got pass and play multiplayer included in this version?

That went the way of skirmish mode and for the same reason.

It's not the extra coding requirement - it's that it needs a complete set of tailored maps to work well - maps that balance the starting conditions equally. The maps in the story missions are often weighted against the player from the outset so they'd be no fun at all for whoever got the lame end in a 1v1

Yeah, I see. The only thing you could do then, I guess, would be to create a totally separate set of maps solely for use within multiplayer. Games like Advance Wars use an approximately symmetrical map, so that the winner is the one who uses the terrain, resources and battle tactics the best.

Again, I suppose by holding this back from the first release, you're giving players something to look forward to for subsequent updates/sequels.

    Great stuff :)

Well, there's always an upside. :)

In truth, if we had the budget we'd have put it in to start with, so we're not really holding it back for any marketing reasons. If the wider public see fit to put us back in the black, I can't wait to reward them with this feature though.

An IAP for extra voices you say?

I will only buy if you include Brummies that sound miserable and/or bored ;-)

    LOL

I think there's a definite market for a brits only version of this game. Brummies vs Scousers etc. :)

I guess it'll be less violent than Advanced Wars.

Dare I say, it seems slightly more strategic than Advance Wars too. The Line of Sight stuff sounds awesome, and the fact you can hide troops behind trees sounds very sneaky sneaky, in a Cannon Fodder kind of way :)

LOL ... yes, because Advance Wars' cartoon violence and nobody-really-dies framework was so disturbing.

Sorry; it just struck me as funny ...

Moving on: this game looks fantastic. If the gameplay comes anywhere near the visuals, the developers could have a big hit on their hands. I know I'm queuing up for a Day One purchase.

As a huge fan of Nectaris, Advance Wars, Daisenryaku, and various hex Panzer games, I'm really looking forward to playing this. Couple of brief questions.

    Surround Bonus?
    Zone of Control?
Fog of war? (Please optional if yes)

    Good luck!!

You'll be glad to know that Fog of War is not present. We had it originally but nobody liked it.

(If we do the sequel with skirmish mode, then fog will go in as an option as there is a useful tactical aspect to it even if the majority do find it annoying)

What's a "surround" bonus in context?

Surround bonus basically means that you've positioned your units in a way around an enemy that he can not take step without encountering your zone of control. In a hex based game you can complete one simply by having friend, enemy, friend in a straight line, or the more complete 3 piece surround by placing 3 units around an enemy in a triangle pattern.

In a square based game you need at least one unit on either side of an enemy, vertically or horizontally, or on all four sides if your zone of controls do not extend diagonally.

I probably just confused the heck out of you. So in terms of strategy. Basically boxing in an oppenent so that all escape routes are cut off. I think in Nectaris it's a huge x2 bonus if you can pull it off. Allowing for weaker units to sometimes overpower a much stronger unit.

Regardless, the video looks amazing, and I look forward to grabbing it on release day. :)

    thanx

Allow me to correct myself. A successful surround in Nectaris halves your opponents strength.

So a tank with say 800 strength would be dropped to 400 making it much more vunerable. Suddenly infantry and APCs can actually do some damage against the much stronger tank, adding a whole new dimension to overall strategy.
