What surprises me is that the developer of multiple polished and popular iOS strategy titles has to announce a "strategy game of the year" award and offer a sale... I thought every already had GBWG and understood it was the best strategy game this year.
Thanks for that. We were going to do a sale over xmas anyway, this just seemed a good opportunity to celebrate our award publicly and give something back. That would certainly be nice, but alas. A side note to the games... but still on the games... I was over on the rubicondev website and grabbed both the press packs for GLWG and GBWG. If you want some good images for backgrounds... these work nicely. This thread needs some loving' Free hugs all round! Haha no really though, I have both of these games, I mentioned it somewhere before but to go free on little like that and drop the price of big. I would have been super greateful for such a good game to go for next to nothing. Seriously, it's better than what actual handheld games device companies can produce and those are NOTORIOUS for getting a shoe in to even get the base code for to start programming. Yowzers, get these babies downloaded already Now can I have my arms back, that hug is too tight.
If you're going to call someone an asshole, at least have the balls to do it without having to make an account to hide behind (which is a really pathetic thing to do when your real account is already anonymous on an Internet forum, you must be a total wuss IRL). For the record, I like this game, and I have no personal beef with Rubicon, but fair is fair. Advertising it as "Strategy Game of the Year" (in a topic title no less) is misrepresentation. If a movie won the Golden Globe for Best Picture but didn't win the Oscar, and then the DVDs started coming out with BEST PICTURE 2012 plastered all over the cases with no mention of the Golden Globe Awards, people would call them out on it. It's the same thing here.
This is getting ridiculous. You're unnecessarily starting shit on an Internet forum where the developer has every right to name their topic whatever they choose, within the bounds of TA forum rules. Why don't you go troll on the members who post topics titled "OMGZ BIGGEST SALE EVER" and chastise them for false representation? Grow up. Thank the developer for making a great game and move on.
You know, I was expecting someone to say that having seen his post count. I'm a 45 year old married man, father and small indie studio owner. If you think I'd engage in those sort of adolescent tricks to score points off a random stranger, you really need to have a word with yourself. Lets just recap here. Our game won an award, a prestigious one. I'm very proud of that. I thought I'd share the good news with our customer base by offering a sale. At christmas. Someone asked if I'd put the other game free so I did that as well. How that little scenario managed to generate hate and pickiness almost right away has left me truly dumbfounded. I've now changed the title to proudly announce who it was that bestowed this upon us.
Don't listen to them. Some of the people around here are major drama queens but it's a small minority, thankfully.
I try not to, I certainly don't take it personally. But it really does disillusion me how many people seem to get off on being nasty to others. Not just at this site or at me in particular, but across the entire internet generally. It saddens me a great deal that there is so much bile in the world.
Rubicon, not that I care about this contraversy, but you should be able to change the thread title, go to edit your post, go to advanced settings, then you will be able to change your thread title. Add IGN to the title, and be done with this madness. I know this will not stop the end of the world tomorrow, but seeing how this whole cluster is going, hope this helps.
Judging by the style of the language used above (especially the part in italics), and considering it is a freshly made account to defend whatever is happening in this post, I can already guess who is behind it. Maybe others will see it too. No need to mention names this time.
While I think you should leave your PR to someone else you didn't do anything wrong in this instance, it took me less then a minute to find out who gave the award. You made two decent gestures in this thread and you were excited, nothing at fault there. Congratulations to the team on the award.
It's because the "e-tough guys" have nothing better to do in their petty little lives and the Internet is the only place they think they can be somebody. Don't sweat it. The cliche is true, haters are always gonna hate. By the way, it's much appreciated that you made GLWG HD free. I already had the standard version but I'd rather put those iPhone 5 and iPad 4 pixels to work.
