It has never been easy to steer, aim, and shoot simultaneously in GTA. Drive-bys have always been difficult. I'm not sure what is happening for everyone else, because between the auto-aim, the longer time limits, the lack of significant lag, and the apparently sleeping police, I am frankly finding this to be easier on my 4s than it was on PS2. Sure, ten years ago I was often intoxicated, but nowadays I have the reflexes of an old man and I'm still just breezing through the missions. Seriously, I have unlocked the second island after only two and a half hours of play and two retries. Way easier than PS2. Add the fact that property costs have been reduced by 50% and this game basically has training wheels attached. GTA III was like driving a bus and this is like driving a Cheetah. Still fun though and I'm glad they spent the time to properly adapt it for touchscreens. If R* fixes the police/fire/ambulance response and addresses the sound bug that sometimes happens when quickly exiting a vehicle, it will be perfect. It even has iCloud, fer christsakes!
It might be your device, on my iPad 3 it runs excellent. Even with 4 stars and police running in to me from everywhere i have seen no framerate drop.
I'm surprised how well it is ported, controls feel almost as good as on the pc version and overall playability is very high.
I'm running it on an iPad 2 and so far, no complaints. No crashing or any hiccups. It IS a little tough getting used to the controls, but I can't complain, it's Vice City on a portable device for 4.99. I remember having more issues playing Vice City Stories on my PSP and I paid 40 bucks for that.
Tomorrow will make a comparison between 4S and iPod touch 5 on Vice City.As far as I observed it's a better experience on the iPod touch 5.
Playing on 4S and it's awesome. Sidenote- anyone not on a 4S or 5 that likes a lot of gaming needs to upgrade. The 4S is the minimum gaming platform AAA titles have in mind an it's just so much more powerful and graphically able. Contract up? upgrade already!
Man played this for a bit this morning and wow it is alot of fun and easy to lose track of time! When can u buy houses, do u have to be at a certain point in the story?
I've noticed a fair amount of lag on iPad 3. Not too often but sometimes it seems to be having a bit of trouble running it. I had no such problems with GTA 3.
With a graphics mod (4S graphics on iPhone 4) it runs alright, not completely smooth, when I get a crowd or more then 4 vehicles on screen it lags, but it's playable none the less. I've already unlocked the whole map and beat the fastest boat mission.
I don't remember if you can buy safehouses from the start, but you have to go about half way through the game before you can start buying asset properties at least. Just curious how everyone is doing in the game so far? 34% completed myself with 38 missions [plus 4 assassinations] completed. Just got done with all the missions I can possibly do without buying any assets (so I've cleared all the mission icons from the screen and the next thing I have to do to get another mission is to buy a property like the Malibu). I have all the hidden packages (just got the last little bugger tonight, the sea sparrow certainly makes things easier I also have $296,657 (again, no properties, except the save point on the north end of the first island. I've also managed to never buy anything at Ammunation...
I remember as a 20 yr old kid I was so pumped to buy the strip club and go inside and waste the strippers. Indeed it payed off.
I dont know why but my ipad 2 cant run the game, even that it has over 300MB of ram and 30Gb free space. It just crash. Help me pls!!!!! (i use fw 4.3.3, jailbreak already)
I imagine the jailbreak is your problem. Jailbreak uses up an awful lot of processing power and I'd imagine this game is quite demanding on both CPU and gpu. I've used jailbreak in the past to get sbsettings (a very handy tweak of the device settings) in devices but removed it after saw the big dip in performance of the device.
