Thanks Picoro!, with full effects there is little lag on the Iphone 4 but is very playable.

Can you do the same with modern combat 4?

Anyone know how to aim in first person mode? There's a setting for it but it doesn't seem to change anything...

Ok, this thread is 35 pages long, so if anyone already approached what i'm about to say...well, sorry!

Just downloaded the game and spent a couple of hours with it. First thing that i can say is that the controlls are better. The layout i basically the same but with some minors changes. For instance, you don't have the jump button anymore. To jump, you need to double tap the sprint button. Thats fine by me, since i dont remember having to actually jump in either 3 or Vice City. But if you get stuck on game geometry, you can still do it.

Aiming is a lot better than what it was in GTA 3. But that's not saying much, since aiming in GTA3 is so abysmal that werent the bigger scope of the game it would be almost an insult Rockstars release a game with it. It's that bad. Still, VC have some better aiming that is far from perfect, but works anyway. You can now tap to aim on a NPC, and when shooting the auto-aim will try to target enimies shooting at you insteed of helpless pedestrians. Still, i found my self shooting the least favorable target more often than not. Two guys out in the open shooting at you? Target the farthest enimie behind a car. Scumbag Aim!

Graphics wise the game looks better than GTA 3. Characters have fingers now...that flex acording their own will insteed of moving together as a brick. Light effects are good, car models are just as detailed as it was on the PC, and textures are sharper and cleaner. Not much to complain about for a 10 years old game. It is as nice as a port can get.

The real issue here is performance. I played GTA 3 in my iPad 2 with no performance problem whatsoever! There were a couple of slowdowns and a bug or two but nothing that had any real impact on gameplay. Not the case with Vice CIty. I have to try multiples atempts before the game actually starts. When i launch the app it get stuck in a black screen and i have to keep closing and opening until it kicks in. Quite annoying, since i dont have to do it with any other app ever.
And in a few hours of gameplay i had more slowdowns than i had playing all of GTA 3. Ironic, since with VC Rockstars said that they improved performance even in older devices. GTA 3 work great on my iPad 2, but Vice City dont.

Well...i hope they make some update real soon! I'm kind of disappointed with this release since i expected it to be at least better than GTA 3

Imo the controls are just broken. Wait until you get further in the game and play some missions where the controls frustrate you to the point of wanting to hurl your device. I don't remember having the same problems with the ps2, xbox or pc versions of the game. I loved vice city but this version of it is just plain broken.

Controls are pretty easy for me. Try customizing them to your liking in options.

I have done that. Yes in the majority of the missions they aren't bad, but in some of them its damn near impossible. As in the mission where you have to kill a rival cartel from a helicopter. You aim by touching the screen then shoot with the button on the right hand side. The only problem is when you push that button the screen jumps and you miss your target. I've been playing this mission all morning and have yet to complete it.

Haven't got to that mission yet to really give my input but have you tried turning off first person auto aim? Also if you guys really want to fix it then you should head over to the official Rockstar forums or tweet Rockstar your complaints because I'm pretty sure they're not reading touch arcade forums tbh.

I'm not sure you understand what it means. I believe it means to auto-target the first (nearest) person. That is my experience with it being on/off.

I haven't picked up an assault rifle yet, so it may make a difference in that area.

The aiming/gun mechanics really suck, but driving around is fun.

The Ps2 was a dedicated game machine; they often perform much better than numbers would imply.

iPhone 4S - runs pretty good. tough to see detail because of screen size.
iPad 3 - runs very good. love it, although sometimes i fight with the touch controls. i know there are some missions that were &^$% tough...WITH A CONTROLLER...so i'm a little worried.

now i want a Nexus 7 and bluetooth controller though :)

You only aim in the first person with assault rifles and sniper rifles. When you do, it's manually activated.

I'm having a lot of fun so far. iCloud support doesn't seem to be working for me though.

Has anyone beat the mission where you rob the bank? I remember it being hard as a kid with cheats and nothing has changed it's still so hard and without the health cheat I don't think I'll ever beat it.

Has anybody figured out how the touch to shoot controls work yet? They seem really random??

What is the general difficulty level on this game? Would a semi-experienced iOS gamer be able to progress in it? I played Chinatown wars for a few hours (the iOS version) and I was very very bad at it.

not until gta 4. possibly san andreas let you swim? don't remember exactly, but i do remember water = death in these first ones.

btw game runs without a hitch, no crashes, on my iPhone 5.

also, iCloud syncing is working fine for me, too.

dead bodies disappear pretty quickly. no ambulances. huh.

Is this the Diaz mission where you circle around the mansion shooting thugs from the heli, then land and have to take out a few inside? if so, I beat that mission first try, I'm not an elitist or pro, jus sayin. Screen didn't jump from the heli at all.
