Is the pop up comparable to that of the Gangstar games on an iPod 4? That is what killed the series for me... Meh, I'll probably buy it anyway. If the framerate is as good as everyone says it is, that's great. But if pop up is minimal, than this a perfec game
If you pop a round from your machine gun into a corpse, sometimes the corpes stands up from the force
If you are looking at something at a distance, the game engine renders a lower-quality model and texture. This is not noticable, as it's too far away for you to see the details. However, when the engine transitions from low detail to high detail, it is very noticeable. The amount of pop up depends on the distance and transitioning effects.
It looks like the draw distance isn't quite as long as on PC with max settings, but seems better than the PS2. I don't remember enough of the XBox version to compare draw distance. Claude is the higher polygon XBox model, everything else look like the PC models which are lower polygon compared to the XBox version. The lighting seems slightly different from the PC version, in some cases looking like it has a cooler color tone, although that is probably more a porting artifact from DX6 to OpenGL ES. The lighting and reflections seem better than the PC version (more gloss and better perspective light shift reflection) but don't look as advanced as the XBox had which was real-time reflections. Anyone figured out how to enter cheat codes?
On iPhone 4, there's pixel doubling (480x320 resolution), no shadows, no light effects or reflections, and even no traffic lights or car stoplights! And I guess the draw distance is very poor in comparison to the 4S. And the rain effect looks really bad. Oh, well... I guess this doesn't come as a surprise to anyone. They didn't want to make it compatible with A4 devices in the first place.
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=2045647&postcount=153 From the iPhone 4S screenshots, A5 devices don't have advanced lighting or real-time reflections either. GTA 3 never had them originally anyways in either the PS2 or PC versions. Only the later XBox version had them.
Believe me, the controls are absolute fantastic! Much much better as in Driver (I say Driver because car physics are quite similar, Driver and GTA3).
Will upload some 4th gen touch screenshots soon. Anyone know the difference between the regular and australian versions?
