I think the startup crashing problems are caused by storing files, because the more you play, the more often it crashes at startup. The more you download files, the more the client crashes. Deleting and reinstalling seems to fix it because you are starting fresh with no saved files other than the default ones. Maybe add an option that occasionally clears the files, or never stores them? I never experienced this until more recent clients( past around v1.5), back when the client went picture, black, then picture. did you change something with startup/file loading around then?
Graal is storing quite a lot of files, because of all the customization. It is scanning for the files on startup, usually it can handle 10000 files or more per second so it shouldn't take long. There can eventually be problems if the flash RAM is already almost full. In that case deleting the app and reinstalling can help. We could theoretically add something inside the game to delete files, although then the game will need to redownload it and could cause even more lag for the player. Quite a lot And a lot of updates are planned
Is Stephan K still the one behind this Graal thing? I remember a long since forgotten happypenguin dot org thread about this game, perhaps the issues and controversies around it are long since dead, but I thought to ask about it at least.
Wouldn't deleting and reinstalling create more lag from downloading than deleting the files from certain large folders such as shields, swords, and soon to be bodies? Also, didn't you post news a few months ago that the server was detecting startup crashes? With this you should count the amount of times the client crashes on startup consecutively, and if it reaches a certain amount of times or the startup successful/crash ratio reaches a certain amount, the server triggers the client to clear the folders on the next startup. Here is another idea: I am not sure if this would cause lag, but maybe everytime a shield/graphic file is accessed, add a date to when it was accessed, and add to the number times it was accessed. Then instead of deleting all of the shields, swords, and bodies, delete the ones that are rarely used anymore, or haven't been used in a long time(these might be deleted shields,or just shields that no one likes anymore). This might reduce the lag from redownloading commonly needed files, while still clearing many of likely unneeded files being scanned through to improve startup.
Whats up with the new uploading system? I just tried to upload my outfit from iEra, and it got denied for reason : do not resubmit. Wtf? Its not like its obscene, and I drew it myself...
May be some other people were already submitting it or it's too close to an existing graphic in a shop, would be good to contact the staff about it somehow.
That made me laugh XD. Anyway, HELLO. I am Kiwi, player of Graal iPhone since around March 2010, player of Graal PC since August 2010 (I think). I was bored, and felt like making a account on here, and that is what I did, as you can probably guess. I know some of you in-game, but have no idea if you know who the heck I am. XD. I will be posting in this thread either from time-to-time or every few hours. Depends what happens .
Bomber, please get one of your scripters to make a trading system in which we can trade hats, gralats, furniture, bodies, heads, items, and more. It would be awesome to have an auction in which you auction off rare items that aren't for sale anymore! Also, please read my earlier post about crashing fixes on the top of this page.
I am totally in support of this, and have been lobbying for it since december 2009. Fact is, they wont do it. We have a much better chance on iera, where there is an inoperational (so far) auction house and most items CAN be dropped. Oh, and anyone with more hours than kills should be executed immediately. In graal city, 90% of the people have this issue.
You want to know the reason why they won't make a trading system? It's all about making money bro. Graal iPhone is Cyberjouyers's/Eurocenter's lifeline at the moment, and if they stop making money from gralat packs then they will die, and graal will be gone. If they make the trading system, people will stop buying gralat packs and start circulating items between eachother through player trades if there is enough of that item, and there will be no point in buying it, so there will be no need to buy gralat packs. If they do make a item trading feature, it would have to be restricted to items that have been taken off sale and are gone.
why would people keep paying gralats to buy an item to give it away? If people did, they are still buying gralat packs. You really should think before bashing an idea.
