There are always some busy RSS feeds which you only interest the items that match particular keywords rather than read the entire feed items. You subscribe these feeds in your Google Reader, and have to unsubscribe them few days later because of the 1000+ unread problem. This is why we created GR Filter, we try helping you get what you need in thousands of items which you wouldnt read one by one. For instance, you subscribe feeds of finance news from CNN and Reuters, but only want to track a stock or company. Just create another Google Reader account, subscribe these feeds and classify them under folder Finance News (Yes, we filter items by folder, not a single feed). Then open GR Filter, create a new filter rule, enter the stock/company you interested in Keywords, pick Finance News in Folder. When you finish set up and press the Sync button, GR Filter will filter the the items matched your keyword in folder Finance News by calling Google Reader Search functions. We now provide two editions of GR Filter: GR Filter Pro (Price: $1.99) http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gr-filter/id445202494?mt=8 GR Filter Free (The same as Pro edition but with AD banner, you can upgrade to AD-Free throught In App Purchase) http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gr-filter-free/id448858007?mt=8 We just started this project, so feel free to give us advice to improve the app. Thanks!
I use a lot of filters with netnewswire for mac and have never understood why google wouldnt provide filters within reader. I'll try the ad supported version to see if the filters do work well enough or not. Are there any plans for iPad version btw?
It would be perfect if Google Reader can create filters like GMail, and you don't need this app at all Honestly, we do not have a plan of iPad version at this moment. Now we are focusing on the iPhone version, adding functions to make the app more attractive.
Hi, We have released update 1.0.3 for GR Filter Free. Now you can test the filter result when create/edit a filter rule. Enjoy it. We are planning to add the facebook share function in next update, so you can share the RSS filter post with your friends.
how to get the price drop apps you interested by GR Filter Hi Guys, just want to share some tips about how to use GR Filter with you. We loved apps going free and looking for these apps in appshopper frequently. But there are too many apps published at a time and you have no patience to read every post to get what you need. How to use GR Filter to narrow it down? Just go to appshopper, subscribe the "Apps going Free for iPad" and "Apps going Free for iPhone" feed into your Google Reader, classify these feeds into folder "Free Apps" for example. Then open GR Filter, first press sync button to sync the new folders info into GR Filter. Press "Settings" and press "Add Rule..." to create a new filter rule. In the New Rule view, select "Free Apps" in Folder, pick a "Date Rang", then enter the Keyword you interested. For instance, you want some free Radio apps this time, so type Radio in Keyword. Now we can press the "Test Rule" button to test the filter result, to check if it match what you need or not. When you finally get what you need, just give a name for this filter rule and press Save. press Done to back to the main view. Now you can press the Sync icon to get the free apps you want anytime. Enjoy!
