How much was the 320GB HD?

I just ordered a terabyte (1000GB) the other day for my mac so I can start using Time Machine.

The 320GB HD is $100. Keep in mind it's for a MacBook not a iMac.

Yeah mine is for a (black) macbook too. I paid $100 + $20 mail-in rebate for a terabyte. So it ended up being $80. Works great so far, free shipping only took a day, maybe two.

Edit: Here's the link to it: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10010643&prodlist=cj

Sale ends July 13th 2009 on it, so still four days to get it for $80 :D

Has anybody mentioned Senuti yet? I had my music spread across three laptops, around 3-4 gigs worth (yeah, not really that much, but still), and two of these are clunky windows machines. One takes about 5 minutes to boot up, the other around 3. Combine that with a 1gb flash drive that for some reason only takes in 500 megs... yeah. Since the iDevices don't function like normal iPods, I couldn't manually transfer my music to my MacBook. Senuti transferred all of it from my iPod in 10 minutes (less, maybe). Anyways, while Senuti isn't exactly free ($18), the trail version lasts for either 30 days or 1000 songs. Useful if you ever need to transfer around 4 gigs or so. I'll probably end up getting the full version sooner or later. ... wow, I sound exactly like on of those commercials disguised as a testimonial

Migration Assistance - need some help?

Wonder if anyones got some hints for me:
I tried the Migration Assistance on my macs to get everything from the mac mini to the iMac. I did all that passcode stuff and transfer via network (both connected to Time Capsule via Ethernet, not wireless).
All looked rosey before going to bed.
Woke up just now and saw that iMac said all done successfully, but mac mini said there was a problem with the network??
    So what's been transferred?
MobileMe already synced settings, contact data and the dock.
But this time apps seemed to have made it's journey too.
But desktop, iTunes and iPhoto files are all AWOL.

Any ideas why they didn't make it over? Isn't Migration Assistance supposed to take all that over too? I do have a FireWire cable but thought I'd try the network first as a) I thought Ethernet would be faster and b) too lazy to move the iMac right next to the mac mini (currently 3m apart)

    Migration assistance - it worked!!!

Hahahaha... the Mac is too clever for me! Problem was solved without me knowing it.

    Everything was transferred over correctly.
I was just logged into a different account name (Michael Cheung) on the iMac instead of using the Mac Mini's admin account (Michael). Due to the profile settings, you cannot see the desktop, iTunes or iPhoto file specifics without prior authorization!!!

So, just log out and login as Michael... voila!!!

Oh man, I have 24" of pure iLove!!!!

hey danny, I just saw this post, so welcome to the Mac world. The first thing you must have is QuickSilver. It's more than a launching app, it can help you copy-paste from one folder to another easily, or email a file to someone, etc etc. My favourite is the abracadabra plugin, everything is automated with gesture - so if I wanna go to certain folders or open certain website, I can just draw a diagonal line (or any shape you want) and it does it for me. Seriously, you must have this!!

Then, when I first bought my Mac several years ago, I had problems watching movies, so I downloaded VLC and and Perian plugin for QuickTime.

I also wanted to rip some DVDs so I got MacTheRipper and HandBrake - just a not for moderator who once INCORRECTLY gave me a note for talking about pirated app and the note isn't removed yet from my profile, I'm not talking about ripping DVDs illegally. I own those DVDs but I don't feel like putting in and out all those DVDs I have. I much prefer copying my fave DVDs to my hard disk so I can watch it anytime, and handbrake helps compresses it to anysize you want (I usually use 700mb-1gb).

If you feel Firefox is too slow, give Safari a try. Safari has always been much more responsive and faster on any Mac I try.

You can also google for some best apple apps or must-haves, whether for the functionality or the novelty, eg. Delicious Library, MacOSaiX, Morpheus Photo Animation Suite, Photo Presenter, etc.

Finally, just give your middle finger to all those childish PC users who whine and moan just because they can't afford a Mac though they want it so badly. They're just jealous ;)

They often claim Mac sucks yet they don't even realise that their dear iPhone and iPod Touch is running a Mac OS X too.

+100, I can't believe how fast Safari 4 is compared to Safari 3!!

heheh, I still love watching them even though I've been a Mac user for a while. It often shows how beautiful 'simple' things I take for granted.

I have a question for you. I am getting a 13" MacBook Pro soon. When you transferred you apps from your PC to your Mac, how did that work. I thought they would only work on the computer that you originally bought them from. Does it work without "authorization"?

You gotta authorize your computer to use your account. Just transfer your purchases. Also, I'd recommend de-authorizing your old computer since you won't use it anymore.

I think you're right about that. When I started up the iMac, it asked me if I had MobileMe account which I did.... I think that did the authorization for me. Either that, or logging into the iTunes Store with my account to download an app, and that did the authorisation?? Not sure, but eitter way, I didn't have any any issues with using the apps on my iPhone.

Is there a big difference between a HD with 5400 rpm and one with 7200 rpm? 5400 rpm is not that slow...... it's what I have ATM.........

Unless you're doing heavy video work or very (very) heavy audio work you won't notice the difference really. In those cases you're better off with an external FW800 drive or RAID array anyway.
