If you haven't heard of it yet, it is a simple dongle that adds smart TV features to "dumb" TVs, from Google. $35. OK, so I didn't NEED this thing, but in my spare bedroom we have a dumb TV. It took about 3 minutes to install. And get operational after DLing the Chromecast app. It supplies a Netflix portal, and a YouTube portal. I think it also includes Pandora, but I didn't look for it. Netflix worked just fine, but it took about 30 - 45 seconds to load.... Annoyingly long, IMO. I did not try YouTube, but my kids said it worked ok. Right now it isn't all that exciting, but for a fact, new media portals will be added. I know that Vimeo is on the near horizon. Supposedly a developer can create a portal with about 200 lines of code, or even less. Rumor has it that there might be 100+ portals by the end of 2014. I think it is worth the $35 just to add Netflix to my dumb TV... But $35 to have a huge amount of content available will make it an awesome product....Now they just have to make it all come together.
I love my Chromecast as well. The big selling point for me is being able to stream all of my local files and TwitchTV streams to my TV. Add in the free month of Netflix I got and like Papa said it was a no brainer!
