Probably a day late, but Google+ was opened to the public. So everyone go dump your Facebook account and go make a Google+!
Google+ is cool but Facebook is rapidly adopting the bits and pieces that made Google+ stand out initially. I still think it will have a place among social networks but it won't pop culture critical mass like Facebook and Twitter even thought there are a lot of people signed up for Google+. The cool thing is that Google+ doesn't need to like that, it can be different and fill different needs. The thing is, it is still young and evolving.
I'm not gonna ditch facebook for Google+. All my friends have a facebook, not all my friends have Google+. All my pictures, status updates, wall posts, etc. are on facebook, not on Google+. The circles feature is quite cool, but facebook is starting to integrate a similar feature as well... We'll see in a year or two though
Agreed. It's like they'd forgotten that the runaway success of GMail wasn't just about the exclusivity and invites, but the fact that they offered much more than any other email service on the market at the time. G+ doesn't begin to do that for social networking.
I noticed a weird arrow pointing to something entitled me on google clicked into it and suddenly I have a Google+ kinda sneaky way to get people to sign up. Don't really mind because I use gmail but I've been avoiding facebook for years successfully and google managed to trick me straight away.
Nice try Google, opening + to the public just as everyone involved in the beta started to leave and head back to Facebook. That huge arrow on the homepage might help a little though.
In part inspired by the annoying changes that Facebook just made, I tried Google+ again. Google+ is pretty worthless. It doesn't even seem to have a Wall concept. One of my nephews added me as a friend and I tried to go post something on his Wall-equivalent and I found that all I could do was see that he hadn't posted anything himself. That's it. I guess I could create a Circle with just him in it, but that seems pretty stupid to me. The ridiculously limited feature set and the fact that the place is a ghost town pretty much means that Facebook has absolutely nothing to worry about, even if they screw up royally.
The Google+ iPhone app seems popular. It's currently ranked #3 in the United States Free Apps category.
I downloaded that myself after I ended up with an G+ account I expect a lot of people who followed the arrow may do the same.
