@Echoseven / @Alex DeLargest : We think it is a corrupted entry in the save file that is permanently breaking all the data written after it. We write our modes sequentially so it makes sense that Advanced mode puzzles could be unaffected. Are you forced through the tutorial again when things are erased? Also- Is your last advanced puzzle completed? / is its progress saved? If it is not completed, could you try completing it. If it is completed, could you play the puzzle right after it, and see if the progress on that one saves. if it does, try playing an expert puzzle and see if that saves.
Short summary: tried all that, no luck. I have just now tried to resume an Advanced puzzle after force-quitting and it wiped all my progress there too. Fully completing a puzzle before quitting (any difficulty) saves correctly, only partial ones do not. More detailed version: No, I am not forced into the tutorial again. It also seems to save things like the high score per puzzle, because redoing a lost puzzle doesn’t trigger the “best” banner. I had completed Advanced puzzles out of order (1-6, then 10), before moving on to Expert. I was wondering if that would make a difference, but no. Completing them all (and one extra just to be sure) made no difference on whether the Expert puzzles saved or not. I completed an extra advanced puzzle and it saved properly. Completed an Expert puzzle and it saved properly. Started and force-quit an Expert puzzle and when I came back, all Expert progress was wiped. I’m more than happy to help diagnose, so if there’s anything else you need, please ask here or in private messages. Is there any way to extract the save file for you to take a look, for example?
@Echoseven thanks for the info! We are preparing a testflight now that will allow you players with the issue to export their save data to us so we can look at it for clues. I'll let you know when we have it up.
I was super curious and plugged this one into a Sudoku solver online. I guess it turns out the issue is this puzzle has 13 solutions. At some point, the solver ran out of techniques, and I basically just picked a number on a 50/50 cell, which made the puzzle solvable. Wild stuff. Also, my eternal question @stfj - Android?
Fun game! Slowly getting better at the expert level. Unlocked the full game this morning and tried the last 2 difficulties..wow..hard! Lol. It's very humbling to find how many good players there are. I can't medal at all (aside from the few lucky ones). The only request is to have some sort of iCloud sync. I play mostly on the iPhone, but just tried it on my iPad and none of the progress transferred. Not a big deal. But otherwise, so far it feels like this game is slowly taking my Sudoku skills to the next level.
we will definitely have cloud sync in there soon. We have 1.0.2 submitted now which will resolve the save issues. Thanks for your patience everyone and so glad you're enjoying the game!
Edit: looks like 1.0.2 fixes some of this! Ran into some more issues with Improve last night, mainly with Hidden Rectangle hints not ending the puzzle when "show me" is clicked, and looks like the highlights it does are different than what it actually changes. Unique Rectangle seems to be covering a few cases, but was having a really hard time understanding each of them, would be nice to have each as their own sub section each as specific as Avoidable Rectangle. Had to give the app a restart a few times when trying to get through Hidden Rectangle fwiw but overall have found the Improve section is much more stable now post update!
Overall, I'm loving this sudoku implementation. Looking over the achievement list.... has anyone figured out what a "skull puzzle" is?
Oh wow... that's the Sudoku app I've used for years. According to my history, I downloaded it 01/03/2011! It's the app I've come to judge all other Sudoku apps I've tried against (although once I started using it, I really haven't looked back). Good Sudoku is the very first one that I think is better on many fronts (I love the learning techniques) although there are a number of ingrained usage habits that have nine years of work to undo. I did have a dev question; I've been trying to figure out how on earth the scores are calculated, even in a general sense, and I haven't found anything. Is that not released for a reason? I'm mostly just curious what factors into it, since I can't even figure out how much of a factor speed is! From a feedback standpoint, I know I'm having troubles with the color palettes. I have issues with how my eyes track across lines and columns; this means that while I can track the houses just fine (you do have lines there), I am having a bear of a time with the cells within/between houses. The white/light grey is just not distinct enough, and then when you throw in the selected color palette light/slightly darker alterations, my eyes are just wigging out from time to time and I have to stop playing for quite a while. Higher contrast likely wouldn't help; it'll drive others up the wall and my experience with using other programs (Excel spreadsheet tables as an example) tells me it won't help me track better at all. I know it isn't quite as aesthetically pleasing to put lines into the houses, but I think it would be a big help from an accessibility standpoint; I can't be the only one having contrast issues. I have enough coding experience to know that "surely this minor change would be really easy...?" is a load of hooey, and adding even more settings makes it most definitely not a minor change, but a separate toggle for interior lines would solve the problem for those of us needing it while leaving the clean look for anyone else. I really do love this game, and think you have done a spectacular job! The jump from Expert to Pro is killing me...
When you are looking at a list of puzzles, eg “Good Advanced” puzzle #20, there is a little skull next to it.
