Well, I'm away my iPhone atm and can't get on iTunes but does anyone know what is a really good chess game with at least local multi-player? I don't have chess at my house, but my brother has an iPhone so he might be able to play local with me. I'm looking to buy one and don't care about the price as long as it isn't over 10$.

    Chess with Friends: Free http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=295436227&mt=8

    Deep Green: 7.99 http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=299471086&mt=8

    Chess Genius: 9.99 http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=294631172&mt=8

I liked all three. Chess with friends because of the random online opponents. Deep Green for the wonderful UI. Chess Genius for landscape, extensive information about the current game, and analysis modes. I'd choose Chess Genius if I could only get one.

You can also try out the other chess like games. I'm still looking for a good Shogi game. But there are also variations like Beam Chess (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=300150474&mt=8) which are fun, though Beam chess is local play only since there is no AI

Thanks for the list :). I'll choose one carefully, but which one, in your opinion, is the best for multiplayer(can include random online) that I can get quick matches locally. I want to be able to play online and with my brother but not always random. Like maybe 2 modes, 1 local, 1 online?

From what I know there isn't an 1 vs 1 online chess game that lets you choose your opponents. Usually they let you start several games with lots of people so you end up playing lots of games at once.

Things could have changed with updates but I've ended up sticking with Chess Genius. It 1 vs program, 1 vs 1, and program vs program. It can also save/load PGN databases so you can email the game to the other player.

It's a hassle but I end up saving a game, then emailing it in PGN. Then whomever I'm playing sends a reply with their move and I do it manually. We take a long time between moves so it isn't a huge hindrance.

    hope that helps

  6. Cyber Chess is $1 good for internet play.
Local wifi play with crap AI is Astraware Board Games $5
Best AI yet is Glaurung Chess (free) IMHO and in my limited testing.
