So, sophomore year is next year, and I was wondering what a great starting job and car are for high school? I want to work at Safeway and a fuel efficient car.
When you finally come to be a sophomore, maybe you can try to give advice on this topic. In reference to the original topic: Working in a supermarket seems a little too bland to me, but if the pay is good, then by all means go for it. As for the car... It's your sophomore year. It doesn't have to be anything special. I'd just find the cheapest rig I could find that looked half-masculine.
Honda Civics are good and last such a long time with little maintenance. As for a job... I got a job as a life guard by the beach for about a month this summer. Didn't pay much but it was pretty easy. EDIT: Are you a high school Sophomore or College? It's just that some of my friends own cars and work and they're high school Sophomores.
Sophmore year. I remember the high school and college days, glad those are finally over with. My first car was a 1998 Toyota Celica, got it for $1,500 - pretty cheap back then and never gave me problems. Get a good cheap well running car - you buy some crappy old Ford for cheap and you'll pay for it in the long run with repair bills, so don't just buy the cheapest one you can find. Do some research on it first and get a car fax, it'll save you in the long run, out of real good experience. You might find a good office job, look around. When I was a sophomore, my fiends were at KFC, Burger King, Frys grocery, working their butts off for minimum wage. I got a really really easy secretary job on the weekends at Coldwell Banker Real-estate for $11/hr, and was able to do my homework while waiting for a call. Good luck on your schoolings
Ahahaha, "great" starting jobs for sophomores are virtually non-existent. Being 15, no jobs will take me, nor can I drive without a 21 year old by my side. But since I just finished sophomore year, I've heard a lot about where people work. Most of the places are fast food or more casual places like Panera. Some actually cook the food, others move boxes. Some work at the grimy Muvico in Channelside... which if you know Channelside (I'm guessing few of you do, if any), is not the best of places to work. Just find something that seems to fit you. As for cars, get a cheap one that runs. That's all you need for now, something that runs and won't cost you trips to the mechanic every week. Some of the people at my school got new Mustangs, BMWs and Camaros (holy ****ing shit, I know), and they've either already crashed it or are going to very soon.
Go for an office job. I'm at mine right now, all I do is play on my iPod and I get paid a buck more an hour than my friends at Taco Bell. Plus they have to actually work.
Fiat Punto FTW Also Barmen. Oh wait, American's can drive a potentially lethal vehicle at 16 but can't drink for another 5 years. lulz
I worked at Pizza Hut. Gayest f*cking job on the planet. But it was money... And I had a Ford Contour which was the gayest vehicle on the planet. Well not really, it just gave me hell. Don't work at Pizza Hut and Don't get a Ford. hahahha
I just got a job at my local movie theater, which is awesome as hell. And I had two choices: Get my dad's truck, or buy a new, small, fuel efficient car. I took the latter, and now I get 36 mpg while all my friends get like 20.
Tampa, at one of more expensive schools. The cars correlate with the people. Your parents are either really loaded (really nice car), or they work hard to send you there (admirable car). That's why you have the gap. We can take this further. Most of the rich kids will shrug everything off and just act stuck-up and spoiled while getting awful grades, while the well off but nowhere near rich work their asses off. Not always true, but there's an interesting mini-society going on here. Not good, but interesting.
