Some developers have expressed interest in creating ipad games, but how many customers actually plan on buying an ipad?
I have got the iPhone, don't see what the functions on the iPad I will use that I'm not getting with the iPhone just now. iPad for gaming? I'd rather stick to the iPhone or PS3.
Yeah I will probably end up buying it. I reserved one for pickup at the apple store. Its just deciding whether I will get it at the apple store or Best Buy. Or whether I will get it at all. At least I have one saved in case I decide to.
Oh, 3, 3, 3. Neck and neck. I selected maybe. My mum is getting one for her birthday, so I will try it out then.
I voted no way, It would be cool to have one but there's nothing in it I can't already do. If it was able to actually replace a laptop (usb ports, multitasking, full itunes) then maybe but for now, there is no way I am going to spend money to get one.
I think it could be an amazing piece of hardware for editing pixel art and composing music. But I'm not convinced it'll have legs beyond the early adaptors. It would be ironic if the vast majority of people buying them were simply developers hoping to cash in on a new, less crowded market. Apple's already forcing developers to upgrade to Snow Lepoard MacOSX just to run the ipad simulator/sdk. I'm still scratching my head to try and figure out who's going to buy one and why. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I don't really see it being that compelling for games. It's not nearly as portable as an ipod/iphone, so I expect most people will be using it in their homes. But if you're in your living room and hunger for a bigger display why not just use a console & tv?
I plan on getting one, but not for gaming. I'm surprised the raging hasn't started in this thread yet. People tend to act like Apple owes them something and they get furious that their new device isn't tailor made for them. I'm sure somebody will chime in soon and throw a tantrum.
Apple don't owe me anything, but I'm entitled to be disappointed The way people were talking about the iPad before it's announcement made it out to be a hundred times better than what we got. I don't hate it, I just don't think the market is half as big as the iPhone/laptop market and that's gonna hurt it a little.
I'm not sure why this thread was moved. There are plenty of other ipad-specific threads still in the general game discussion area including "When do you expect a bigger iPad?" and "The iPad and Virtual Joysticks." As a publisher trying to decide whether preordering an ipad for development purposes would be a worthwhile investment, I was hoping to get a sense of how many folk currently using ipod/iphone for gaming are actually planning to buy an ipad. If the general game discussion area was an inappropriate place to ask this question, I apologize.
I'd consider an iPad in the sense that after getting my iPod Touch, I hardly ever go upstairs and turn on my computer anymore - I've got near instant web/email in my pocket. That being said, I'd still rather have my iPod Touch than an iPad, as I use it as a PDA for work, and for the money, I couldn't consider it unless we get some more "computer" functionality - say MS Office for iPad or whatnot. About the only other thing I would use it for is games, and if I'm at home I'll fire up consoles and the HDTV, and if I'm not at home, I probably would opt to lug my iPod Touch around instead of the iPad. Also also there really really really needs to be some other way to transfer files other than wifi. Why do I have to transfer stuff over wifi when my iPod is plugged into my computer?!? App data needs to be stored differently as well! I'd love to have one, but it's not close enough to a "real computer" yet.
Preordered mine today. They just announced that orientation will be able to locked, that sealed it for me. Strictly entertainment foe me - watch a movie, play a game. Myhope is that the games that I love will be ok in FS mode and I won't have to wear reading glasses to play like I do with myiphone.
The ipad was rumored to be something revolutionary and be a potential Kindle killer but all we got was a giant ipod touch. Even Marvel was disappointed after the ipad was announced.
I don't see why it would be a Kindle killer - the iPhone/iPod Touch already have Stanza, through which you can purchase books from Kindle anyway. Battery life will be much less on the Kindle, and it's got the backlit screen which is hard to read in broad daylight unlike the Kindle... Very different markets IMHO, even though there is some overlap. That being said, I'd take an iPad over a Kindle device any day of the week. Mostly due to my heavy investment in apps, but also due to the fact that Labyrinth 2 on iPad will almost be a reason to one one by itself.
