Looks like AI graphics are the future. Goes downhill thereafter with uninspired dialogue which could do with some AI assistance. One truly innovative feature; slot machine seduction. Marvellous. vectorarchitekt Well-Known Member Dec 29, 2013 2,489 177 63 #6 vectorarchitekt, Jan 19, 2024 The slot battle mechanic is sorely under-used. I still play the ToF 1 and 2. There was a game years ago called dungeon slots that left the store but was so much fun. I wish devs would use that more often than matching. How is the gameplay speed? My main issue with GS games is that they’re slow and I always wish there was a speed-up or skip animations option. Stronsay Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2015 987 230 43 #7 Stronsay, Jan 19, 2024 No gameplay here really. I view Golden Enigma as a stylish video comic book plus cool jazz jukebox and some rather corny dialogue. Your retro sci-fi agent has a series of missions and encounters. They are quite varied, superbly illustrated by whatever means, but all resolved by way of a slot machine. There’s no other interaction. Very much style over substance. NB if anyone knows who the singer is please let me know and I’ll buy her album. sdfkt Member Feb 6, 2013 11 2 3 #8 sdfkt, Jan 19, 2024 I really don‘t understand why they go with these ugly ugly generic AI graphics. Half, if not more, of the charm of Game Stew is gone fir me. I used to buy their games blindly. Guess I won‘t do that anymore. Sad story …. troyster and naghihimutuc like this. Good on them for trying new stuff. AI is at the very beginning of its artistic journey and seems likely to have a place in gaming but hopefully won’t be overused. If their next game reverts to original style then we’ll know this experiment hasn’t worked. squarezero Moderator Staff Member Patreon Silver Dec 10, 2008 13,716 1,240 113 Male Chief Strategy Officer Salem, Massachusetts, USA #10 squarezero, Jan 20, 2024 I wouldn’t call it ugly, but at this stage this kind of glossy surrealism is painfully generic — which is not surprising considering it’s like 90% of AI art out there. Game Stew is a weird case for me, because their games have almost never held my interest for more than 30 mins, but the art kind of made of for that. I found the the idea of a narrative-driven game from them intriguing enough to preorder this. Sad to hear that there’s apparently not much to the story. I'd argue it looks way too consistent to be all AI generated, but it's certainly possible. I understand it’s use as a placeholder but it’s absolutely grotesque to use it as is for final art. The last game I bought from them was that dystopian mech sim arena fighter. Grindy and fun until I got derailed by Pocket City 2 or some other. Stronsay Well-Known Member Aug 6, 2015 987 230 43 #13 Stronsay, Jan 21, 2024 Was playing Golden Enigma late into the night. There’s a scene of one character perfectly reflected from different angles in multiple mirrors. I’d say AI programs don’t have that sort of technical ability, but very easy to rotate a model in software such as Maya. Then there’s the consistency you mention along with the devs comments. So most likely the art is the work of a digital artist. It’s a style often mimicked by AI so I see how we got sidetracked. That's AI. The whole thing looks like midjourney output, specifically. AI replacing human labor is the future, I'm not being a luddite, but I'm on the side of the look of this game being too generic and lacking whatever makes art compelling. naghihimutuc likes this. troyster Active Member Patreon Bronze Jan 19, 2012 27 0 1 #18 troyster, Feb 1, 2024 No thanks, not into the AI art (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
