I think it's more likely the servers are just crap. If I can get on what is basically the scoreboards within 48 hours I doubt their downtime problems are due to having hundreds of millions of users ramming the servers.

 

Is there a way to get your hero to do quests? Or speed it up?

You could try reading the website, where it explains that just being on the site makes events unfold slightly faster.
