Of course he can't back it up; I wanted to give him a chance to though, right here, so this BS doesn't come up again. In retrospect, I shouldn't have even dignified his attacks with a response There is nothing lower than a developer who posts shill reviews or posts. I consider it the bottom of the barrel when it comes to marketing, and If I ever see a developer do it, I'll call them on it, and they'll never get a dime from me. I find it very insulting to be accused of being associated with that crap, so perhaps I lost my temper. There is no ambiguity about this though: I have never shilled for anyone, about anything, ever. You can believe me or disbelieve me, I don't particularly care, I just don't want someone hurling baseless accusations at me from behind the veil of anonymity. I'm just a person here, man. I'm not some anonymous ngmoco-shilling gaming robot. I'm just a 21 year old college student in California. My hobbies include photography, playing poker and video games, and reading. I've owned an iPhone since version 1, and I love it. I buy a lot of iPhone games from a lot of different developers - ngmoco happens to be one of my favorites. I'm excited to see the games they're working on, I post here once and a while to communicate with other people who might share my excitement. Thats all - I'm only human. With that said, you're right that this has gone way further than it should have. I'm done with it, and I'm not replying to anything else that guy says.
That's more like it, Aurora called me a moron once and I didn't even give him a benefit of a reply and that was the end of it! There is no winner in Internet wars, it only makes you nerdier .
I usually do that; I shouldn't have let his BS get to me. Anyways, it ends now. On to other things A big tragedy! That game is still the best one on the iPhone, in my opinion. We can still hope that they'll make a sequel eventually, but it isn't looking so promising.
yeah, ngmoco just don't seem...that great at making iPhone games. Sure, Touch Pets and Eliminate are good, but compared to other similar games or other games in general they, well, suck. I believe their hype was developed by Star Defense/Rolando games of theirs that were made by other devs and published by them which were both (well, rolando at least) very good games, yet look at Rolando 2 which flopped. If Gameloft, Chillingo etc would have published it it could have been far more successful. It just seems that the publishing side of ngmoco isn't doing that great and nor is their actual developing themselves side.
I concur. I hope we didn't see the end of hand circus, I believe in the hands of better publisher it could have been more successful. I read somewhere that ngmoco can't market for their lives and I believe it too, like so many others I hated the way they market their games.
According to STP_tim. It's quite shitty I love to see Rolando 3 hopefully with another publisher. And kmacleod I believe ngmoco gave you an all expense fieldtrip right? Just want to put that in the table before I say ceasefire!
You bring up a valid point (finally ), so I'll give you a reply: Ngmoco invited me to play Eliminate as part of their Community Day - I've made no secret of that. They also brought a bunch of game journalists from smaller internet publications. I was treated the same way these people were; we were treated well, but there was certainly no expectation of "we only brought you so that you'll say good things". This is standard policy for game publications - Touch Arcade, STP, Pocket Gamer and the others attend events like this on similar terms. I was brought because I was on top of the Plus+ global leader boards. I believe that the goal was to encourage more people to play on the Plus+ service. I was not asked to voice my opinions of the game here on Touch Arcade, nor was I brought their for that purpose - I asked them myself if I could, because I thought it would be an interesting read. I saw their studio and met some of the people there, so my opinion of them is definitely influenced by that experience. I know first-hand that the people there care a lot about what they do, and about the iPhone as a platform. I've never claimed not to be biased - I am a fan of the company, and some of that is definitely from first-hand experience! Just as the folks at Touch Arcade, Pocketgamer, and STP are not paid, I was never, ever paid for my opinions. Lastly, as an interesting side fact, several of the people I met at ngmoco are ex-games-journalists. As any games journalist would attest to, these are not the type of people who would tolerate shills. ...And now I'm officially done with you, and with this topic
This is exactly what I am getting at and I give you cred for admitting this and with that I no longer had doubt about you getting paid. Sorry I have to resort to this bullcrap.
kmacleod has always been nice to me and very helpful. I like ngmoco and I love Touch pets it is the one game I play everyday. I hope they make more like this. I just do not like shooter games or i would have the other game.I like playing as a single player are with my friends. I thought this was about a new game not to start a war. I think kmacleod just knows alot about the games. This is a game thread right so lets talk about the game. I hope it is as good as the last games they gave us.
After he posted that I checked with ngmoco, and no one I spoke with considered Rolando 2 a "flop", so I really have no idea where he got that information from aside from just pulling it out of his ass.
I'd like to thank everyone who stuck up for me here. I appreciate it, and I won't forget it Anyways... They said in the email that we'll be getting more details really soon. Hopefully we won't get another long delay like we got with Eliminate, and we'll be getting some definite info in the near future... I was under the impression the game sold pretty well actually, but Pocketgamer was also repeating the statistic that it flopped, in their top 50 developers feature. Then again, they've been known to just regurgitate stuff from other sites without doing their own research, so they may just be repeating the rumor.
Yeah I don't know, without anyone from ngmoco saying it was a "flop", all they're doing is just making assumptions. And well, you know what happens when you assume.
I don't know about calling it a flop but Rolando 2 certainly didn't perform as well as the first. The sequel was never really anywhere to be seen for long on the top 100, so going just by that I'd say it didn't do so well. The first game was near the top for quite a while if I'm remembering right. I'd also say that based on them not pursuing a third installment that they don't think it would be profitable.
They dont even need a rumor to repeat. Apparently they can just assume anything and post it as a fact.. The post title suggests that they received an Offical response from gameloft about it`s cancellation (or atleast received some insider info). Turns out they just assumed it all by themselves and posted it. Way to go PocketGamer
