AH, see that's the kind of spoiler [it's not really ] I appreciate. WIll try that later when the kids leave my ipad alone so I can get a game in!
Working on 2-16. Really enjoying the process of trial and error, perfecting my strategies and my mechanics. So far I have 2/2 chests and 1/3 crystals, and have not yet been able to complete the level.
Here's how I beat it (posting here to help others if needed, also pm sent)... Spoiler Focus on the patterns of the boss. Also use a sword that will hit above you without requiring a jump. First the boss tries to do a direct attack from above with a sword. If you start on the left before the attack you can move right a little and miss getting hit and then slash him once before having to move right again. He typically attempts 4 attacks. After this the boss will go to the middle of the screen and shoot down, down at an angle each way and to the side. Stand just to the right or left of shot that goes down and you can attack for a hit by jumping up after the initial shots clear. After that the boss moves to one side or the other and does a rain type attack with bullets. If you can follow the boss you will miss completely getting hit. Other wise go all the way to the opposite side of the screen to avoid the entire attack without having to stay between the rows of bullets. Later when the boss destroys the left then right bridge areas over the lava, still go to the edge, just wait as long as possible then jump out and then use your double jump to get back and avoid being hit. Wash and repeat. It took me a bunch of tries to get it done. For the good ending... Spoiler Make sure you have the default relic, The Holy Pendant, equipped that your grandfather gave you when you beat the boss. As for weapons of choice... Spoiler I used the Demon Blade because of it's ability to hit enemies slightly above you. It would be extra hard to try and beat the boss with a spear or other sword without the vertical range. ... I've almost perfected 3-16. Then just one last speed run level and a few achievements involving spending gold and I'm done. I think I'll focus on going ahead and finishing this tonight before the new games come out.
I just can't belive how perfect this game is. It's perfect to do in small chunks or play for a while, the level lengths are great and levels are pretty tough or involve some thinking and of course searching.
Yeah, it's amazing when you get a game this good that just delivers on every level to be both good in small chunks and large chunks without just dumbing down the gameplay, cutting out things to do, and making super short levels. This dev managed to find that sweet spot while delivering a content rich experience. I hope they continue to have great success. Speaking of Success... a week in and it's still in the top 10 in the US for all paid apps.... heck it's #2. If you've found stuff all along then you may have other swords. Just scroll the list to the left and you may already have a bunch of them. I can't remember which ones are purchase vs free. Wave Sword will work.
I'm so stupid, I got a sword in a level but couldn't work out how to equip it. I didn't think of scrolling the list of swords at the Merchant. I cannot believe I didn't work that out!
Shadow Blade Wave Sword Cutlas Dragon Slayer Flamberge Demon Blade It appears that Excalibur does more damage than the Dragon Slayer even if they're both 3 stars.
I finished the time trials and I'm ready to put the game down now. What a great experience this was, made even better by how seemingly out of the blue it came. I don't know how successful Gelato Games's first game, Rocket Warrior, was. Tilt controls are not for everyone, but if you gave it a shot you probably came away feeling pretty much as I did: more from these guys, please. Now we know that Rocket Warrior was just the start of even better things to come by this 2 man team, and I couldn't be more please for them. Looking forward to what John and Lefteris come with next.
Did you get the good ending? I have collected all treasures and crystals and beat all bosses, but haven't got that award yet. Do you know if you need to complete all other quests first?
So did i. Not one tiny little hair that i found in this tasty soup, not one. All there is left for me is going to vote for GOTW before i delete it. It won't be my GOTY, but it's in my Top 10, no doubt.
Is Ex-calibur the best sword for most of the game? It can one-shot a lot of mobs and the magic is pretty neat.
I highly recommend saving up for the Excalibur after you get a decent sword with a 2-star attack rating. One-shotting all trash from max range is amazing and the magic attack is the best especially if you keep moving forward right after. It's not the best for the last boss though where a sword with a vertical swing attack is ideal: Shadow Blade Wave Sword Cutlas Dragon Slayer Flamberge Demon Blade
I went from default sword to ice to dragonslayer. I found Excalibur rather useless compared to the Dragonslayer, but that's part of the beauty of the game, different play styles will work better with certain weapons. So everyone can find favorites. Ultimately you gotta own em all for the achievement anyway so might as well grind a few levels for coins to figure out what works best for you.
