In my opinion is not worth it. You are better off without it, I only use Excalibur/Dragonslayer with the Enemy HP Showing relic (which proved useful once or twice by displaying the enemies behind some walls and saving me some time). Well, you got an answer above: Excalibur (mostly) or Dragonslayer for swords and the Enchanted Mirror relic. Royal Mail for Armor if you also want to check on different armor setups.
Considering TA gave this a 5/5, most users love the game, a large number of the top players here love jt, and its #1 of all paid apps (not just games, all paid apps) in the US store... Well I know sometimes things get overhyped but this isn't one if them. Even my son can play this game without issue on his IPod touch 4. Not just the 4 but the worst version of the 4. If you like platformers where you have to explore to find hidden rooms and stuff.. Well this is a no brainier purchase.
Please, 2-16 -_- I now use Excalibur and Winged Boots (triple jump ez mode). No idea what the fairy guardian does. My guess is it shows you hidden objects but I never needed it anyway if that's what it does. Phoenix guardian - attacks like the dragon guardian but has the added bonus of reviving you with one heart if you die. The drop chance booster rings suck. Shadow Cloak increases your move speed quite a bit and is useful only for the time trials but isn't needed. Magic Shuriken orbits around you slowly and deals 1 point of damage at point blank range so it's not that great. Pyro Vest is essential for only one level, Spoiler 3-16 . If you want the good ending, Spoiler equip the starting relic Holy Pendant during the 6th boss fight.
Not very far in yet but I am really suprised by this the graphics really are great and I'm enjoying the gameplay and the length of the levels seems perfect. Looking forward to getting further into the game so I can get all that endgame equipment your all talking about, I can only dream of Excalibur at the minute.
Just bought. I have hardly any idea of what I'm getting into, but from the swirling mass of praise I'm assuming it's good
I don't want to imagine >< I purchased the dragon protector and feel it was a good purchase. It's like having a melee weapon, you can sit back and watch him pick off opponents from a safe distance. Totally worth it.
Question on basic gameplay. On Level 4 of the Great Forest, there is a hidden area tied to a spring jump. If that jump is missed, the section can be completed, but you miss out on the chest in the hidden area. You can't backtrack to that jump to try it again. You can't get to that area unless you start the whole level over again so that jump can be attempted. Is that common in this game, as the hidden areas can only be found by trial and error, as there are no visual clues to their existence. Game breaker for me if I can't back track without restarting a level.
Part of any platformer is typically learning all the secret shortcuts and other secrets. Even Super Mario Bros (original NES) had its pipes, hidden blocks, warp zones, secret world, and so on. Finding them all involved playing the levels over and over. Unlike many platformers with collectables when you get a treasure box it's no longer needed to be found again if you finish the level. If this bugs you then so will every other platformer nearly in existence. Even Sonic the Hedgehog had its hidden Emeralds and stuff all found off the beaten path. Ultimately like Sonic you don't have to find it all to finish the game... But there are extra experiences for finding everything.
Great reply! Thanks for the insight. I was hoping that this would be more open ended for backtracking. If there was some sort of visual to the hidden areas, that would help. Otherwise you're just bashing against walls hoping something opens up. Cheap way of lengthening a game IMHO. Fun game otherwise.
I disagree. I think the hidden spots are done just fine. Most of them are fairly obvious anyway (perhaps because I grew up on NES so I'm used to this kind of thing?), so any extra indication of where the hidden spots are would make them trivial. At any rate, once you have found a bunch of secret areas, you start to get a feel for how the devs have done them and start noticing spots that are likely to be hidden areas. You'll eventually see what I mean.
I did not expect to get that much into the game. Even thought the levels are bite size, the relics are very well hidden and ennemies placed strategically. However I unlocked the quest "complete a level without collecting any gem". However it did not unlock in Game Center. Anyone facing this?
Does anyone know of an ideal level to farm currency on? I've got 29/30 achievements and still need to buy 12,400 worth of swords to finish the last one.
Alright, I'm at wit's end. It took me about four hours to beat the game and collect all the chests and crystals... except one. I'm still missing one crystal (I'm guessing the second one) on 2-16. That one crystal has taken me longer to find than the entire rest of the game, and I still haven't found it yet. I've gone back in with the triple jump to reach higher ledges, still nothing. I've gone back with the gem idol to see if I could find some extra gems hidden in a wall somewhere (since crystals usually have a few around them), still nothing. Where the hell is it? Can anyone help? Otherwise though, I really did appreciate the old 16-bit mentality of the secrets in this game. Even though there's no "real" hints where all the secret walls are, they're placed in more or less intuitive places, so you pretty much always know where to look. As iOS retro platformers go, this is definitely high on my list. Not quite as high as Mutant Mudds and Bloo Kid 2, but above the League of Evil games, the Mikey games, and a bunch of other well-regarded titles.
