Either phone is pretty awesome. The Droid X is superior hardware-wise, I'd say the X's camera is much nicer, it does do 720p video but the white balance is gawd awful. It's a lot sexier than the Incredible. I really don't like their MotoBlur interface. It's gotten better, but it's not there yet. They should have stuck with stock android and it would've gotten faster update cycles. The only cool thing about it is the ability to re-size widgets. Battery life is excellent. The only reason I'd go with the Incredible is if you wanted the smaller form factor, HTC Sense and (a lot) more support for update cycles. Go with the Droid X, if you want the bigger screen. If it was a fight between the Droid X and the Evo, the Evo would win in a heartbeat.
This is an Android thread. Go buy an iPhone 4, you really seem to like it. Android isn't bad, I think it's better than iOS.
Yep the Android OS is very flexible and great, HTC Sense is a nice overlay as well ... but when it comes to gaming Android just isn't a patch on iPhone gaming in terms of quality games available. Sad but I'm not back to carrying two devices around (Desire and Touch).
You have to feel them both out. They are very different. The Incredible has a faster processor, I think higher mp camera, and is smaller. The X has the movies (though the Incredible does take movies too), bigger screen. But wow is it a bigger phone to carry! I have the Incredible after having the original Droid (Droid had a problem, was under warranty but they didn't have any more in stock so they replaced it with the Incredible, long story) and love it. The Incredible has more pages for widgets than the Droid did - not sure about how many the X has - definitely something to check out. I like HTC preloaded widgets than the Motorola ones - like the clock and weather etc. Also something to consider. Petty difference - I liked the ringtones on the HTC better than Motorola too. But you have to see what is right for you - aside from those minor internal differences the external part of it has to be to your liking.
The HTC Weather Widget can be found in .apk form on the web, someone had the cheek to rip it from the HTC rom and upload in on the Android Market - before HTC made them remove it. I like it too, it is a bit too big but looks great on the homescreen You think those phones are big, you should try the Dell Streak!
I went into the Verizon store with my cousin the other day; he is considering a droid, and let me tell you the Droid X is fawking huge! I knew it was going to be big, but I seriously can't see lugging that thing in your pocket a convenience. It was my first hands on with that and the OG Moto Droid, and I have to admit the first Droid has a sleek design, it screams, "I work in -insert sales profession-" I don't have an informative opinion about the Android OS beyond what I've read online, but I'm hoping that they have a theme function, the ui isn't that pleasing to me. Also I hear people rave about widgets, but what's so intuitive about settings functions lying around as icons? Maybe I'm too dense to understand, but I don't see a problem with the iOS settings all-in-one window. Or am I not understanding what widgets do?
Widgets, in a few words, I would describe them as shortcuts you may have on your computer desktop, eg. I have widgets on my Desire homescreen for.... Switching Wifi on/off Switching mobile internet on/off Hotspot facility on/off Bluetooth on/off etc etc - sure you get the idea - though most of these are aimed at saving battery lol. Shortcuts to direct dial a couple of people (one push and it's dialling). And really shortcuts to individual app/games - such as internet usage for the month, internal memory used. And the major one to some people, being able to create your own folders on the homescreen and plonk what ever shortcuts inside you wish. Every phone owner is different and sets things up how they like them, probably not the best summary ever sorry. Take a look at this post in a "show us your Desire homescreens" thread and you'll probably get a much better idea http://androidforums.com/htc-desire/84650-show-us-your-desire-homescreens.html#post800456 And bear in mind you can have up to seven homescreens on the Desire Fire away with any Android questions, more than happy to help where I can.
Ok, my round of question. Both phones have 1 GHZ processors, but the Incredible's is a Snapdragon? What's the difference? Form-factor: Do those 0.6" make that big a difference between the screens? I'm perfectly happy browsing with the iPod Touch's 3.5" and the Incredible is 3.7", and the Droid X honestly looks like it'd be a pain to lug around and easy to damage. Once 2.2 of Froyo is released, is the performance suppose to be better compared to the HTC Sense interface, or about the same? I've read the there's some parts that aren't to snuff on the X. Do both have third-party batteries that can hold a greater charge (I'll eventually google this myself, but for anyone that knows on the spot). I'm looking more for opinions than for copy and pasted answers from Engadget or Gizmodo. I just want a phone that's comfortable to use. Both are already great spec-wise.
I actually haven't seen the Droid X but I have seen the HTC HD2, same size screen, loaded with experimental Android. I have to say I loved the big screen. Really fantastic for web surfing. On the other hand, it wouldn't fit all the way into my pocket and it felt kinda ridiculous holding it up to my ear. It's not really that usable one-handed. For most operations, I find the 4.3 inch screen too be a little too big, although it does feel magnificent when watching videos or surfing. I hear the Droid X has some magical "Gorilla Glass" thing which is supposed to be unbreakable and Moto's hardware always is well-built, so I wouldn't worry that much about damaging it. Froyo "greatly enhances speed and performance". Stock Froyo is faster than Froyo w/Sense. Sense actually slows down the phone quite a lot. If you turn off sense the phone gets a hell of a lot faster. Again, not much experience with MotoBlur so I can't help you there.
I have the DroidX and it fits easily in my pockets and has GREAT build quality. And about the Snap-dragons, I personally think that the OMAP processor in the DroidX is a little bit faster.
Regarding batteries, third party ones don't seem to have the levels they claim to, and currently aren't worth considering over the official one, there is a very details comparison chart on their actual levels somewhere on androidforums.com will take a look for it later. However bigger batteries requiring a new phone back cover (due to their size) are starting to come out and may be the answer if you're going to be away from a charging point for a number of days...or of course just take a second battery.
Out of curiosity I wandered over to the Verizon website. I was greeted by this masterpiece of website design; Obviously Verizon are experts in the field of… illegibility… Furthermore, I managed to miraculously maneuver around to the data plans section of the site. Absolute daylight robbery. 10 bucks for 25 mb?! That's insane! The unlimited option didn't seem too bad until I learned of the fair usage cap of 5GB. My carrier gives me 10GB for 15 euros, no-contract. Are all carriers this bad in the states?
I've tested the HD2 too, and it's so easy to browse on it, on my galaxy s 4" I notice quite big differences in browsing (compared to iPod), it's much easier to browse on a big screen. The snapdragon is slower (not the Ghz, but just the internal structure).
the only android phone iv tried is the htc touch slide.. i really liked it. cost about 300.00 i think. chris.
The Droid is by Motorola. Droid X is the follow up to the Droid, even though there's a Droid 2 that's coming out in August that's more similar to the original Droid, which makes no sense at all. The Droid Incredible is by HTC. If I managed to stuff it in my pocket, I'll go with the Droid X. If I have to sacrifice some of the features for the sake of portability, I'll go with the Incredible. Thanks guys.
LMAO! what good is a powerful phone when there is nothing out to take advantage of it? have you seen the poor quality and choice of games out on android? go compare age of empires, farm frenzy, doodle jump, nova etc, they are terrible compared to the iphone versions. My galaxy went back to the store within the 7 days, full of bugs and problems, yes the specs on paper look great but its very different in real life, trying to do something when the whole screen freezes for upto 30 seconds, also there is no games or apps out for android that take advantage of the cpu/gpu. Add to that the pentil screen on the galaxy, the terrible battery, the lag, blackouts, gps problems, android 2.2 delay, internal storage issues, poor game performance (due to coding not hardware), and did i mention the battery lol, also, the ram is 512mb but until android 2.2 is released for the galaxy s it only allows you to use 256mb, so your only getting half the memory as advertised. Also a major issue with android is the marketplace, it is lacking in every area, I was really shocked how bad it was when I first went on there from my galaxy, the selection and quality of apps are a joke, and gaming, well, its a no go at the moment, add to that the lack of support from the big players/developers. One good thing I can't fault though is the black levels, best I have seen on ANY display to date, but the rest of the screen isn't great, resolution is lower than stated due to it being pentile, it has a weird grey mesh "look" to it and small text goes dotty, also the saturation is pretty bad, reds and blues mainly, as soon as you try the iphone 4 screen out you can see just how much better it is than the galaxys screen. The galaxy really isn't that good at all and certainly not in the same league as the iphone 4 lol, I changed my galaxy s for an iphone 4 and not looked back since, the iphone 4 destroys it in every way and the galaxy s is meant to be the best android handset out right now lol. And also, the galaxy s has sold very poorly since release with a high return rate due to faults, look on google, its full of issues with the galaxy s, there is already talk of the galaxy s 2, add to that the end of the nexus one (google has stopped selling it) and the end nearing on the HTC desire and the shift away from android OS for samsung and LG at the end of 2010 into 2011 and you can see android isn't looking as good as some make out....
