Interesting take. I'm thinking of the Average Joe populace. If they are actually aware of this refund policy and how many percentage actually take advantage of this. If the figure is big, then I feel for the devs. That's painful to see your apps sell one minute then money going out the next.
My point is proven by the fact that some major devs such as Gameloft have games for sale on their site but not on the Android Market - to avoid the refund scenario. I own a HTC Desire, lovely phone with great operating system and HTC Sense, but the lack of quality games on the Android market is shockingly bad, 95% plus of "games" released are sloppy two minute flash game conversions/puzzle sliding games/naked lady apps etc etc. For gaming the iPhone/Touch is the only way to go at the moment. Would love for someone to prove otherwise. Such a shame and a waste. And I don't think EA have mentioned Android since taking over the publishing over Reckless Racing, would be such a shame if the Android version gets canned. Hope I'm wrong on that one.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/02/samsung-yp-mb2-appears-at-korean-e-tailer-specs-and-release-dat/ android ipod competition? time will tell. would be interesting if this dose come to markat. wonder how apple would deal with it.. maybe treat the ipod with some respect and give it the good it deservs. chris.
my buddy has an HTC Evo - there are things that are good about it. But I like my iPhone and couldn't live without it. I actually really like the iOS UI - though I do wish Apple would support themes (they should open a whole other section in the iTunes store just for selling themes).
EA can die for all i care.. they do not bother to update there software to fix the bugs. and they are well known for making a new app which should of been a update top fix the problems of there first attempt.. EA blah!
my mom has a HTC slide touch thing. its a nice phone. i could live with it, and my ipod. but at this point i do not need a cell phone so i do not bother with the extra bill that i have no use for.
I won't worry much about Samsung as a competitor. The Samsung Galaxy S has an amazing spec sheet (even better screen than the Retina Display) but nobody seem to know much about it. Samsung is probably just bad at R&D. Hardware is really nothing if the apps you get is a bunch of crapola. David's posts is very clear about the Marketplace situation.
I have had Samsung PMPs in the past - and they are very good music/video players - but I don't think they could keep afloat in the gaming market like Apple has.
None of the phone's are honestly built for gaming. A handful have a nice form factor with smooth corners and are comfortable to hold. Then you have to take into account the tons of different phone models, different versions of software (Froyo, Motoblur, default version, wtf?!), and different networks, along with a shaky market. Then take the Android OS in itself. What exactly is Google marketing it as? Sure as hell not as a gaming platform. Apparently, it "does" stuff, but that's the extent of my knowledge from the commercials.
For the "iPhone sucks" crowd. I love the look on their faces when they watch little kids in iPod touches playing graphics intensive games. Or when serious businessmen whip out their iPhones and use powerful productivity apps like Omnifocus.
For an example, latest releases under "Arcade & Action", Harry Potter game is unofficial ... and look at the one review
well finally the galaxy S is gonna be out tomorrow ( the comerical on comedy central said anyhow.. im in arizona ) it looks like.. preloaded with avatar ( my guess they choose this movie to push there screen technology ) . on t mobile. should be interesting to see the phone in person.. i only have the htc touch slide available to me to compare it too.. chris.
I have a droid and it's epic... But the damn app store on it so terrible, there are no fun apps for it, the phones are to different for every app to work with everything, and when the app categories are grouping genres together ("Arcade and Action" LOL) you know the games are awful. I know it's a phone but I thought Apple solved all the "cellphone games suck nonsense", Google needs to step it's game up, well at least I have my Touch still. Can't hate widgets though.
Yes the flexibility of widgets/folders/homepages etc does make it painful to go back to using the Touch I must admit. The screen on the Galaxy S is amazing, probably the best I've ever seen on a phone.
I don't think Google spends its time developing many mobile games, and last I heard they recently killed the Nexus One, so an update in hardware doesn't look like it will be anytime in the immediate future.
So, should I be going for the Droid X or the Incredible? The two major differences I've noticed so far are the screen size, the ability to record in 720p (which I've heard isn't that great) and the HD output. None of these are necessarily that big an issue. Should I go with the sleeker form factor and pic the Incredible or the Droid X? If they're pretty much the same performance-wise (again, I don't know, do they have different flavored OS's?) I'll just go to Verizon, try them both out, and pick the one that feels the best.
