Wow LMAO! So much wrong in your comment I dunno where to start! Firstly let me get one thing out the way, I had a Samsung Galaxy S for 7 days, on my 7th day I retuned it for another one to see if it was as bad as the first, 3 days later I sent it back (7 day cooling off period) and got an iphone 4, best decision I have EVER made about a phone and am sooo happy I didn't get stuck with the galaxy. The Display Two good things about the Samsung Galaxy S's screen, 1, the size, really is big and is the reason I wanted it in the first place, 2, superb black levels, the black levels are the best I have seen on ANY display to date. Now the bad things. Firstly the resolution on the galaxy is much lower (480x800, 160ppi) than the iphone 4's retina display (640x960, 326ppi) and most importantly is the pixel density, the galaxy's screen is only 160ppi, the iphone 4's is 326ppi (the highest on the market and more than double the galaxy's) and is very easy to tell the differences side by side, the iphone 4's screen is so much crisper and vibrant, the screen looks like ink on paper, i'm still stunned just how good the iphone 4's retina display is. The Samsung Galaxy's screen is a Super Amoled Pentile display, if you know about pentile display panels you will know this isn't good, this is why the galaxy's screen has a strange mesh grey look to it if you turn the brightness down a bit and is also why small text looks so poor on it. The colour saturation on the galaxy's screen is pretty poor too, reds and blues are wrong and really makes some images looks over exposed. The OS Android, some of the features and options are quite good but a lot of it is STILL buggy and there really is nothing that I prefer on android over iOS, I much prefer iOS 4 than ANY android version including 2.2, only thing I thought was good but more a novelty was the unlock patten and live wallpapers. (unlock pattens and live wallpapers are available on jailbroken iOS 3 and 4 and are free via Cydia) Android has more options than a stock iOS but the moment you jailbreak iOS there is no competition, cydia makes iOS amazing for features and tweaking, its limitless, rooting on android is nowhere near the same, you don't have cydia and you don't have the 1,000's of addons and tweaks like you do with iOS. The handset The Galaxy feels cheap, all the reviews also say this, it feels cheap when your holding it, the back battery cover is very thin and fragile, The look of the phone is EXACTLY the same as the old iphone and ipod touch which is now looking dated, just bigger, they have copied it to a tee, even the touchwiz interface is a poor copy of the iOS springboard. The battery is TERRIBLE and I mean terrible, even Samsung have confirmed there are battery issues with the galaxy and an update is due soon. Problems I have had nothing but problems with both my galaxy's I tried, I looked on many sites and forums and soooo many people are having the same issues (and other issues), the Galaxy is a bug ridden mess at the moment and only a decent update from samsung can sort this. Some known issues (I had all these on both handsets): Black screens for 1-5 minutes when trying to do simple tasks, terrible lag on basic tasks, random crashes and restarts, handset getting very hot, GPS not working or cutting out requiring a reboot, random battery drain. On top of this the Galaxy is meant to have 512mb of ram but only 256mb is being used until the phone is updated with android 2.2, so basically you paid for 512mb but only getting 256mb of ram that is being used, this is covered loads on the net. And regarding the galaxys cpu and gpu, yes the gpu is impressive (both phones have a 1ghz cpu) but what is the point when there is nothing on android that takes advantage of the specs? gaming on android is a complete joke with just cheap iphone ports which end up worse or with content removed (hi gameloft!) to the basic android games on the marketplace. The cpu/gpu in the iphone 4 is also superb and is easily shown on the retina display games out now what's possible, nova, plunderland, pinball hd, jet car stunts, godfinger, all these look STUNNING and run like butter and all run at a much higher resolution than the galaxy's screen can even handle. Overall The Galaxy S could have been great but turned out pretty poor mainly because of all the problems and bugs, if they can sort the issues it could be a good phone but certainly not anything amazing, make sure you read the reviews before buying! (average review ratings - 6 out of 10) I will say this right now, there is no other phone on the market at this time that competes with the iphone 4, there is nothing that can match the screen, resolution, features, cpu, gpu, memory, developer support, range of apps and games, nothing comes close! And to top this off, the new windows 7 phone (and iphone 4, ipad etc) will totally destroy android, it will only be apple/iOS and microsoft/wm7 on the market in a few years time.
I can't view photos without going to the mobile site, can't check or send inbox messages, no chat, and having to refresh my notifications screen to see if I have any news ones (but I have messages sent to my inbox, though, so that takes care of that problem).
Everything minus chat has worked fine for me. Chat has been broken since day one, and I highly doubt they are even trying to fix it. @Kgamelover1 Isn't the Droid 2 coming out soon?
He has the option of the Droid X, Droid 2, Droid Incredible, or the barely worth mentioning Ally and Devour.
Why? It's not like we know for certain exactly when or if these two phone's are coming out. All the phones currently available easily stand their ground. Technology-wise, you can always wait for the next big thing. It's just not always worth it.
I has small fingers (hooray for child finger transplants) and I found the keyboard to be a little cramped, but it's definitely usable. The keyboard itself was only okay, I mean, it's not bad, the keys are domed and there is some clikiness (my word), but it's no Touch Pro 2. The phone is pretty chunky. Like not pocket friendly chunky.
There's... there's a SNES emulator... I can play Chrono Trigger... I need a bigger battery. Edit: And PSX/PS1, and GBA, GBC, Sega Genesis... kinda wish I had a physical keyboard now.
I agree, i´m gonna stick with Apple right now, just ordered my iPhone4, but they need to open the platform a bit more. At least let us choose our own Text Message Tones and stuff like that. I do enjoy Apple Products, but that doesn´t mean i won´t keep an eye on the Android development aswell. It might not be up to par at the moment, but let´s check it out in a year or two. Who knows? At the moment though, the iPhone is still the best phone around for some people. I´ve never had so much fun using a mobile device before, that´s for sure. At the very least, we all do gain something from competition, the customer can only win. So yeah, bring it.
im more interested in what becomes of megoo.. it looks great. MS is putting some bank into there phone.. so i figure it should have good apps.. times are gonna be interesting this time next year.. chris.
True, and i´m eager to see if Apple manages to push Mobile Gaming to new heights using Game Center. It´s good to keep the pressure on Apple.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4vv7yFaqxw this tablet is running megoo. looks good.. granted this is just showing what megoo can do.. its not official anything.. but looks promising.. crosses fingers.. likes the idea of it being linux. chris.
