He's not the only one doing it, though: just yesterday a frequent poster unwittingly revealed that they have a second account just for requesting promo codes in order to boost their chances of getting free games. The idea behind promo codes is for multiple different people to be able to experience and comment on apps, not for one greedy troglodyte to grab everything they can (even apps they can't use), especially when every single piece of feedback they've ever provided is simply a variation of "Great game!", or "Game looks great!" While I don't think many people would consider missing out on this particular app a great loss, the same thing has happened with multiple other titles as well, and it isn't what this forum is for. There is absolutely no need for an individual to take more than one code per app, let alone personally take almost half of the promo codes provided by a developer. omerkarakaya Well-Known Member Mar 24, 2011 2,579 0 36 Male Turkey #5 omerkarakaya, Aug 26, 2011 Developer codes via private message would have wanted anyway. Appletini Well-Known Member Jan 8, 2011 2,564 0 0 Ankh-Morpork #6 Appletini, Aug 26, 2011 Most developers don't give multiple codes to a single person when they're handing them out manually. They also tend to provide them in order to promote their game and, more importantly, get feedback on it; they're not just there for you to stock your friends and family with "free games". Yes, right now there is no mechanic preventing you from taking multiple codes from a very limited list (regardless of your claimed reason for doing so), but that doesn't mean it's a classy thing to do. I tend to see most of the promo threads as they pop up; I suppose I could simply start using as many of the codes as possible until they're all gone (for "friends and family", naturally), so that maybe only one or two other people were able to get one. If every code in every thread disappeared within a minute or two because of one person, perhaps that would prove a point and encourage a shift in design that would make these less susceptible to lurkers and leeches. syntheticvoid Well-Known Member Jun 20, 2010 14,504 124 63 Musician & factory worker. a[V-O-I-D] http://apparentsymmetry.bandcamp.com #7 syntheticvoid, Aug 26, 2011 totally agree... I can't tell you how many times I've gone into a thread that has only a couple views and 10-20 promocodes, with 7-15 of the codes being used not 2-3 minutes after the dev posted them... =o/ This section needs a 'how to' sticky guide for developers so they'll know what to do to get as much feedback as possible. omerkarakaya Well-Known Member Mar 24, 2011 2,579 0 36 Male Turkey #8 omerkarakaya, Aug 26, 2011 Other codes are already taken by people. I had it on their behalf. that took 3 users. so what you or anyone else. You're not fast..!!! Appletini Well-Known Member Jan 8, 2011 2,564 0 0 Ankh-Morpork #9 Appletini, Aug 26, 2011 Yes, yes, you're proud of being a leech, we get it. Also, I'm sorry to interrupt your glee, but I've managed to get a promo code from pretty much every thread of interest over the past few months; while I admit I can't be bothered posting which one I took (forum faux pas), at least I tend to provide actual feedback and/or reviews, unlike you. As noted, though, there's no point going over this with you any further, because you're apparently proud of the fact that you've been screwing over posters who actually provide something of value to the developers (see SV's post for an example of this). omerkarakaya Well-Known Member Mar 24, 2011 2,579 0 36 Male Turkey #10 omerkarakaya, Aug 26, 2011 Dude many extension. The best thing to do as a developer, as well as the best way to prevent 'Lurkers' from taking all the codes, is for them to give them out through PM ONLY. Most learn that after trial and error, and after being told to try that, they see their review numbers go up, but new devs need to be educated to learn that or they blow their codes out there and get no responses. I'm always telling them to do it that way or to have contests and then give the winners codes through PM, etc. As a half-assed dev myself, doing lots of things correctly and creatively greatly enhances your advertisement, attention, and excitement value that you're trying to drum up to sell your product. Even a great game will not sell sell unless it's marketed well and lots of people don't take that into consideration when making them and then fail. And as a gamer, you want a fair shot at promos, so that's the way to go with that. PM only. The word is LEGS, so spread the word! Appletini Well-Known Member Jan 8, 2011 2,564 0 0 Ankh-Morpork #13 Appletini, Aug 26, 2011 Pretty much; a definite thing of note is the amount of interest and goodwill a competition can build up. It requires a bit more effort and time invested on the developer's part, but it connects them with their audience more effectively and for a longer term, as well as "encouraging" people to participate socially in order to earn their reward. This also has the side benefit of letting the developers keep track of who has received what, and who has actually provided feedback (if asked for) for future reference. Of course, we still managed to have somebody here not long ago complaining about how much of a hassle it was to send a private message to a developer, somehow forgetting that they were getting a promo code out of it, i.e. a free game. It is mindbogglingly childish to complain about a slight inconvenience when you're getting something for free. Gift horses and all that. bigrand1 Well-Known Member Apr 23, 2010 4,968 7 38 Geriatric Party Animal California, USA #14 bigrand1, Aug 26, 2011 Regarding your first paragraph, you're right, that's exactly my point! Finding it a hassle to PM a dev for a code? Once again, your second paragraph was right on the money as well! But then, we ARE dealing with lots of children here, though. Amazing how entitled they act these days, eh? They NEED to learn to say 'please', and 'thank you', and this is one round-about way to make them do so, in'nit, even though that's not the issue at hand, right? Heh-Heh! It's all good!
