Buy it now. This is the BEST platformer you will probably ever see on the idevice.

Don't have the arcade and monster videogame experience of most of you on this board. Therefore, my most important question with any new game is how many times can you die before you lose, and do you get to start over at the same level when you do die.

I can take a bit of punishment when I screw up, but need to feel like all my progress is not in vain.

You have 5 lives when you begin, and I think you earn one when you finish a level (I haven't been paying a lot of attention to that detail). When you die you restart at the most recent checkpoint. When youi lose all your lives, you can restart at the same level, with all your progress and score intact.

There are ways to get extra lives so your game does not have to ever end:)

I am still on my first game so I am not sure what happens when you die. Anyone know ? Do you start at the beginning again with a score of 0? I am curious.

So it's like having unlimited continues then. I have been collecting TONS of extra lives for nothing :) ............It does boost your score though :) :)

I thought when you die and your game was over, you would get to continue but would lose your score. That's good news since there are leaderboards and it would be a drag to star over with your score.

I still don't like that if you hit "new game" by mistake, everything gets erased instantly.

Thanks mucho. Sounds like even a wimp like me can derive some real enjoyment from this game.

Since I *did* miss all the arcade games and those of other platforms, I'm really delighted that the iPhone has opened this world to me. And these TA forums have been invaluable to me. You guys are super, as is this website.

How many hours of gameplay should I expect to get out of this? I was thinking about picking it up but I was curious as to how long it is. Is it relatively short like Mario 1? Pretty long like Mario 3? Quite large like Mario World?

If you want to complete the levels with all the extras then you will get PLENTY of game play. I haven't finished it yet , but it's the kind of game where you will want to revisit level over again to find the red crystals you might have missed the first time around. There are also the 32 retro levels.

I must insist that you buy it right now :) :) :)

    Game Impressions

I'm on the 3rd world and so far I really enjoy the game :)
The controls are good, like in Soosiz, but at some moments, jumping is difficult because Giana touches the stones over her head and misses her jump. Punk Giana is great, it's like playing with Mario on iPhone :p
Animations are great, more polished than in the others platformers, and it's awesome to play with something else than a ball ;) I like the pixel touch (and the 2D) but I suppose it could be disappointing for some players. The SFX are nice too, really oldschool at some moments :D

The game is not too difficult but you have to search if you want to find all the red crystals. When you have them on all the levels in a world, you unlock a special level which is like a warp zone: you can collect lots of blue crystals and as every 100, you win a life, it's interesting :)
There are few different enemies but they have their own way to move or to attack Giana, so they are all interesting (and funny). I like to jump on them or throw them fireballs. I saw one boss and defeat him without problems but I suppose the next one will be more difficult.

For me, it's a must buy platformer on iPhone. If Soosiz is the Mario Galaxy of the idevice, Giana Sisters is the Mario Bros ;)

DL'd and played a few levels. Not super impressed at this point. Mario games have controls that are magic. For me, the clonesqe games just don't have it - neither the platformers nor the kart games. It is more playable than the other iPhone platformers that are trying to copy the Nintendo formula but it's not great. It is playable and the test is will I want to play this a few days from now. Soosiz has awesome controls that feel very right - but it's not a Mario clone per se, IMHO.

Yep - I love Soosiz's controls. The movement and jumping feel just right. OMG Pirates has great controls and also Sway (and a ton of others).

I guess I have to say sorry, that I am new here. But I am a "passive" user for some time now. And now Giana made me feel I had so join discussion...

    So here we go.

First of all @cranker: Are you the cranker on Giana Highscore with 2.6 Mio point ... If yes, how on earth did you do that. I am not worthy.... ;)

And then I tried before going for highscore to press "new game" button and in my version he asked me "Do you want to delete your profile" Yes No

And I just bought it on AppStore today...

I would say that this is a bit smaller than Super Mario Bros. 3 in size and not as challenging.

I've had the game for 3-4 days now and I'm on world 8 (I'm guessing the last world in the game?) and the platforming elements have become quite hard. But the game starts out rather easy for the first 3 worlds... and doesn't show any real signs of challenge till around world 4 and onwards. Also trying to collect all the red gems in each level to unlock the bonus levels (not the retro game levels) is a challenge in itself. Plus there are the retro levels to unlock, which I haven't even done yet.

But for a platformer, this one is quite large. I do wish that it did have a little more variety in level design though, but it seems like the developers wanted to stay true to the original game and keep it simple. There are a few additional game play elements like bubble gum for flying and pop bottles for breaking bricks and extinguishing fire, but nothing too drastic.

Open feint scoring is a nice touch too, right now I'm number 8 on the leader boards (my user name is coffeecrispbar).

I honestly hope that this game sells well enough to warrant a sequel. I think there's so much more that could be done for this series.

    Not sure about that claim.

Best so far, true. Best will ever be? no.

I'm up to world 4 now. The levels up to this point havn't been very memorable and I'm not feeling like I will play through them more than maybe once more :-(

Geez, what's up with no introductory price :(
Don't have enough left on my prepaid to get this at the current price. Hope the price drops a couple bucks in the coming weeks.

    I did say probably :) :) :) ....................lol

I am just excited to have a great platformer to play !

You still can't replace the perfection of an actual physical pad but it works pretty darn well most of the time:)

And I love the openfeint action...........number 1 on the leaderboard for now.....................:)
