NOTE TO THE DEV: Any chance of opening the retro levels before the entire game is finished ? Also possibly a seperate leaderboard for those levels ?
I agree that this game, even on the lowest volume it is quite loud. A slight adjustment might be nice.
Never know what this game is about.. but I kinda got caught on "mario-like" game.. is this true? can anyone confirm further please? Thanks
I'm not buying it because its not £0.59p or $0.99 & its a DS port on another note has anyone else made up a playlist of the original music & mixes? oh and I have no complaints I'm loving it
Regardless of where the graphics originally came from, the game looks like it belongs on an iPhone. It's bright, colorful, and sharp. In fact, it makes something like Plushed look drab and fuzzy.
No comparison with other games is possible. We are talking here about a legend. So it was an instant buy for me ! With my 3G iPhone, I had time to time a problem with the virtual keys (not responding in time) ... but maybe my finger were badly placed ... so if this is the case, the interface should be adapted to allow me being a little bit out of the "key zone". However, wonderfull game, nothing to regret so far.
I had the same problem. No big deal, takes getting used since we are talking about a virtual pad and not a physical one. Maybe the "key zone" could be expanded a bit, It's hard to say. I have used a few 2 way virtual pads that seemed a bit more seemless when controlling the direction but then again, I just started to play this so we'll see. I am sure there will be some updates that make this awesome game even better. Anyway, best platformer on the idevice by a longshot
It's VERY Mario-like. Even some of the block/level layouts look like ones straight from the first SMB. I lol'd when I was breaking a block with my head, and realized I could keep jumping into it to keep getting coins... exactly like in Mario. But this is a very good thing, to draw so much inspiration from such a classic. The graphics and animations are beautiful, it definitely does NOT feel like some crappy port. And the music...ohhhhhh I'm in LOVE with the music. Very retro inspired. So far, the music on the bonus level of the first world is my favorite. I'd buy this soundtrack if I could. Great great game. Highly recommended. It's hard to top Bounce On as my favorite platformer, but this comes really close. It's got the fantastic controls of Soosiz, but much more interesting gameplay. My one minor gripe is I wish you could reverse the positions of the jump/fire buttons. But other than that minor annoyance, I'm totally happy I bought it.
So far I am little dissapointed. The first world was way too easy and overally the first 2 and half worlds have been somewhat boring, mainly because there's only been two different type of levels and same enemies everywhere. One MAJOR caveat though: If you accidentaly click New Game when you are attempting to continue your game, the game will instantly overwrite your game save, and you will loose all your progress. No questions, no warnings. And yes I did that when I were half way through the third world. Not sure if I can bother starting over. Other issue I have is the placement of the fire button. I always "search" for it from the bottom right corner, which would be the logitical position for it IMO, but it's not there. Please move it, or allow player to move buttons where he wants to. Other issue is that when looking up - I tend to use my left thumb - I slide my thumb on the pause button, and the game pauses when I lift my thumb. Kinda annoying. And I would like to adjust music and sfx volumes. I like the music a lot, but the sfx volume is too high.
The button placement matches the standard A/B button layout on a DSi or a PSP. It feels pretty natural to me. Perhaps my standards of what makes level "different" are broader than yours, just on the first two worlds I count at least 4 different types of levels, and each one seems designed with specific challenges. I've also encountered 5 different types of enemies (six if you count the stone-throwing goblins). You also need to approach each level differently depending on which character you're playing. If can't argue with the fact that you feel disappointed. But I think most people should find plenty of variety in the gameplay. I should add, the New Game button can be avoided altogether if you don't quit the game when you finish playing -- just hit the home button. When you next open up the game, it will come up to the Pause screen, which doesn't have the New Game option. Hitting the pause button while looking up is a new one for me. I guess wherever they put it, somebody is bound to hit it by accident.
Game Impressions I bought this last night and I have been playing through it today. So far I think it is a very enjoyable platformer. I agree that it is a bit to easy, the first two worlds weren't much of a challenge to get through at all. But once you get to world three, the game does get substantially harder. The controls work great for me, I prefer using the "classic controls" but the "touch control" option works fine too. I think the graphics look nice without being to flashy and the game has a good soundtrack... but it also has an in game music player so you can replace the music with your own tracks. But yeah, some of the sound effects are a bit too loud, but who knows, if enough people complain, maybe they will fix it in an update? Otherwise this is a good solid platformer, I wouldn't rank it in the same league as say the Mario games, but so far this gets a "B+" ranking from me. Probably is the best "Mario Bros." styled platformer in the app store... at least from what I have seen it is. Also, for people wondering about the "classic mode", as far as I can tell it can be unlocked by collecting all the red gems in each of the regular games levels and then by completing the unlockable bonus stages in each of the game worlds. I've never played the original Commodore 64 game, so I can't say I'm upset over having to unlock it, but I could imagine some C64 affectionados whining over this. But to me it just adds more replay value.
I have played all of the platformers for the iPhone/iPod Touch and this is easily my favorite. The cutesy vibe and OpenFeint integration makes this game one of the best! Easily worth $4.99.
Please fix this right away (hoping the dev reads this) If I accidentally erase my game, I will probably just delete the app because who wants to start over after erasing a game by mistake. It's silly not to have a safeguard or at least ask "are you sure you want to delete your saved game" or a password needed to delete it. Like I said in a previous post, why not make 3-4 game save slots? One is a pain. I am scared to let my daughter try this game in case she accidentally erases it. PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP !!!
