oh i agree its certainly user error, however this is the one and only game i have this problem. just doesnt feel natural, platform games generally dont feel great on a touch screen but soosiz is a complete exception to that rule!
I don't have a problem with GS's controls, but I do acknowledge that it could be layout issue -- they basically went for a traditional A/B buttons diagonal layout, instead of the more natural (on a touchscreen, anyway) horizontal set up. I just wanted to be clear that it isn't a button-registration issue -- something that has plagued other games in the past.
I was very dissapointed with how easy the DS version was, shows what a difference buttons can make if people think this is frustrating!
I don't think it's frustrating. In fact, the general consensus (not shared by me) is that it is too easy till the last world.
Fair play, was just commenting on a post on the previous page. Easy although it may be, I still very much enjoyed the game and would be interested in purchasing to play through the classic levels if I didn't have to complete the new levels again!
The best level for 1ups is level 1.3 its an very easy and short level with a part in it that has 100 of those crystals in a row you usualy get 1 or 2 lives per play but it can be completed in just a few minutes
I'm sorry but I'm not sure I'm understanding the above explanation...are you saying even if I get all red gems from every single level and unlock world 8's locked level, I still then have to beat 32 more levels (without getting a game over) before unlocking the 30 retro levels?? That seems seriously excessive. I'm on 8-4 and have all red gems thus far. I thought I was getting close to the retro levels but 32 more levels still stand in my way? I hope I'm misunderstanding cuz that's a real bummer!
You misunderstand -- the 32 levels you have to beat are the retro levels. The idea is that to get that final red gem you have to beat the entire retro game without dying. Once you beat the 32 levels you can then access any specific retro level at will -- otherwise you always have to start from level one.
Just finished everything. When you go into your profile page, then click on the gold coin, the game has its very own list of achievements. I've gotten all of the OF achievements, but there are apparently 3 that I haven't gotten on the gold coin list. What the heck are "combo killer, combo shooter, zeppelin" achievements?
Well I got to world 8 locked level and see that I didn't misunderstand - there are 32 mini levels that must all be beaten without reaching game over. However they seem fairly easy and are pretty short so it's mostly just time consuming and annoying, which makes it seem pretty pointless in addition to being aggravating! At least I know I'm over the red gem hell!
Sorry I missed this earlier! Thanks for clearing that up because when I finished them without dying, I went to play the retro levels and thought hmm didn't I just do this?! I don't really see what the big deal is with the retro levels. They seem like shorter versions of the other levels and even resemble the other levels from the first few worlds. Oh well, I didn't just play the game to unlock these so I'm still glad I managed to beat it!
It's kind of a nostalgia thing -- those are the levels that people remember playing in their childhood.
I actually timed it and it seems that level 1-10 gives more lives in almost the same time you can beat level 1-3, so this is where I'm going to go to stock up on lives from now on! XP
This whole retro BS is where this game is messed up a bit. I really loved the original on C64, those levels look really well done on THAT platform, with THAT graphics, with THAT engine, in THAT era, but in the DS/Iphone, they are just simply a liability. Not terrible, and some of them are playable and nice, but no match to the other 50 or so levels. We are talking about 32 levels. In this new game they are: 1-2 (stage 01) 1-3 (stage 05) 1-5 (stage 09) 1-8 (stage 22) 1-9 (stage 24) 2-2 (stage 19) 2-3 (stage 06) 2-4 (stage 02) 2-5 (stage 04) 2-6 (stage 17) 2-7 (stage 18) 2-9 (stage 20) - this one has some nice extended parts though 3-2 (stage 08) 3-4 (stage 16) 3-7 (stage 12) 3-8 (stage 14) 3-9 (stage 32) 4-1 (stage 10) 4-2 (stage 15) 4-5 (stage 13) 4-6 (stage 25) 4-7 (stage 31) 4-8 (stage 28) 5-1 (stage 26) 5-2 (stage 29) 5-3 (stage 03) 5-6 (stage 11) 5-7 (stage 23) 5-8 (stage 07) 5-9 (stage 21) 6-1 (stage 27) 6-9 (stage 30) If you look at them closely, all of them are straightforward levels, with some forced extended areas, and they aren't as natural as the other levels. That's why it's said the levels in world 1-5 are not as interesting, save for the snowy and the sky levels, and the castle in world 4. Some of them are better than others, but generally it should have been a lot better to see brand new levels in their places, and see the oldschool ones only in the retro part, but in more or less 1:1 remake (like SMB in the All-Stars). The retro levels don't work for this reason, and for the reason they aren't really a perfect remake (hint: endbosses are missing). If you haven't played the original, you may notice a level ending pattern in some of the cave levels. Just look at the endings of 2-9, 3-4, 3-7 and 4-8. There were a dragon there in the original, blocked the way to the exit! This game is still awesome, but excels only in its new parts. The new levels, the new graphics, the new soundtracks made this game cool.
