I hope they will never change this the bar comming down usualy comes with a lag spike do you have any idea how many times and in how many games i died becouse of that lag spike
All right, I bit at the $2.99 price point. It just seems to me that the physics is a little loose on this game though, not at all like SMB or even Soosiz. I guess it has more of the retro feel then, but the smoothness of the jumps is something that SMB did very well. I'll play on as I've only done the first five levels or so, but this point aggravates me.
The C64 original game had the same "loose" feeling to the jumping. Closest thing to SMB you could get, but still not perfect.
Hmm, that's odd. I've played the DS version, and the controls never felt loose to me at all. Maybe this is a change they made to make it easier to play with the iPhone controls, like Capcom did for Megaman 2? The with the loosest controls I've ever played is probably Cave Story (not that it's a bad game by any means), and Giana Sisters isn't even close to that.
this game is rock hard. i get completely frustrated with stupid jump mechanics that require pixel perfect positioning. other than that i quite like this!
That's what I meant. I never noticed that in the DS version, but I've noticed that some platformers (like Megaman 2) have had major changes made to their jumping physics for their iPhone release, so I'm guessing that's what's happened here.
I just checked out some video from the DS version on YouTube. The jumping looks pretty much the same to me. Seem to be that hardcore platforming fans can get to a level of nuance that goes over the heads of civilians like myself.
Perhaps so, it was just a guess on my part. If you think THAT's bad, I'd hate to see your reaction if you ever played Cave Story...
This is my contention too. The controls are fine but the jumping mechanics has less drift and more fall. Not infrequently retro games had this feel, but newer ones usually don't. Loose may be an improper term, and it is a preference not necessarily a weakness. I guess it just makes the game feel old to me. I never tried the DS version, but after playing NSMB for the DS and Soosiz here, I'm having trouble adjusting.
I know everyone is much further than me but I bought the game recently and I've come to my first red gem problem. It sounds like there will be much harder ones in the future, but can someone tell me how to get the second red gem in level 5-7. I don't see how I can possibly jump high enough. I also tried jumping off the bee's head, but that didn't work either. Thanks =) Nevermind..a minute after I posted this, I tried again and did it!
Does anybody know a good place to farm for 1-UPs? I'm trying to get the achievement of beating the game without getting a game over screen. So far I only have the first bonus level that gives about 2.5 lives?
good luck with that. as far as i know there is no one place to farm lives, just secret areas with more diamonds to collect. got to level 3-9 and near enuff ready to delete. way too frustrating bah!
You do know it's a remake of an old platform game, so it's not supposed to be a walk in the park? It does have some challenging parts, but it's not that hard... But I'm only halfway through so maybe it gets harder?
this sale is really not helpful! I dont have any money right now!! aghh... is it worth getting though? Does the whole style change later in the game, or is it happy grassy stuff all the way?!
There are themes that recur, and new gameplay elements that are introduced as you make your way through the levels. Hardcore folks seem to think it's easy till the last world -- personally I've found it challenging (in a good way) from the second world on. I think it's the best traditional platformer in the App Store.
yes i was aware of its age. in fact the only reason i bought this was for the retro mode which is insanely difficult to unlock part of the problem isnt so much the game but the controls suddenly stop responding. the jump button is sometimes missed as its indented into the right of the screen and i often end up throwing a fireball.
I think what you mean is that you miss the jump button, not that it stops responding (one is user error, perhaps due to the control layout, the other would be a bug).
