Good grief... I apologize for being indelicate, but I quite nearly peed my pants a little earlier today after searching the US App Store for "Giana Sisters", only to be served with a single result, the GS soundboard. After individual searches for "Giana" and "Sisters" each resulted in exactly the same way, I panicked, thinking that the game's infamous history was somehow being played out all over again -- *before* I had finally decided to download the thing already. I've been wondering since the game was released if there was any possibility whatsoever that I could miss out on this version of it entirely by waiting to pick it up, so you can imagine the frenzy I instantly worked myself into when it started to look like that very thing might have actually happened. Thankfully, before *completely* flipping out, I thought to check the App Store's New and Noteworthy section (where GS has been featured for the past several days), and sure enough, there shone the beautiful object of my desire. I held my breath as I clicked the icon, but the app page loaded up right away. Needless to say, I clicked "Buy App" faster than you can say "Mario". EDIT: The download worked, too, by the way.
You think that's bad, it gets worse... I beat the game yesterday (or the day before... I forget) and when I went to play the 'Retro' levels, I couldn't!!! It appears that you need to collect all the red gems on every level as well in order to unlock retro mode. I'm not sure about anyone else but some of those levels (and the entire World 8) were almost impossible to beat as it is, let alone getting all the red gems.
In the console world, that's the kind of stuff developers do to keep people from selling the cartridge into the used game market. I agree that it doesn't make much sense in a downloadable game.
I depleted all my lives in World 1-9 and the game said "Game Over". Much to my surprise however I was able to continue with full 5 lives right off from level 1-9. Is this a bug or feature? If the latter, then I think a more appropriate penalty system should be implemented, such as making the player start at the first level of the last world he'd made it into?
Some help would be much apreciated i keep on trying to make that jump but no mater what i do i always fall just short of that platform wasted 50 lives already trying to make that 1 jump
To unlock the retro levels, you need to collect all the red gems in World 8. The retro levels are actually the World 8's locked level. You enter that level, and it tells you that you will be able to collect a red gem if you beat all the 32 levels in a row (better start with as many lives as you can - if you loose all your lives, you need to start from the beginning) and then there's a door that takes you to the first retro level. Once you unlock that level (no need to get the red gem), you can access the retro levels from the Play -menu. You can also choose the level you start from. Overally I didn't really like this game. I had to force myself to beat the game and get the gems to unlock the retro levels. Funny enough, I enjoy the retro levels more than the normal levels. Go figure. Also the awesome music somehow "pops up" even more in those retro levels, which just makes me want to crank the music volume to max and turn down sound effects even more - but the game doesn't let me do that, sigh. Do notice though, that playing the retro levels isn't same as playing the original game. No weapon upgrades like there were in original. No bosses other than the last boss. Some changes to make it easier than the original (checkpoints, Punk Giana turns in to normal Giana when hit by enemy, etc). And the jumping and moving physics are different than in the original. @ Jack111, tap the jump button instead of pressing and holding it down.
On the Twitter account of Giana Sisters, they said they are working on several updates. I hope they'll add another system to unlock the retro levels. Same advice: tap shortly on the jump button, so you won't "bounce" on the top. The last jump on this level is an accurate one too (but a long one). It took me time to finish this level but it's possible There is an OpenFeint achievement for finishing the game without Game Over. So, if you die, you can't unlock it and it's a sort of penalty
Hi! I'm playing this game, and it rocks, although I prefer the DS version spritework. Anyone else think that the first three levels of world 8 is just a bit too hard? It got a bit easier after then, but really, 8-1 is way too complicated, and has a lot of deadly spots, 8-2 has two really hard jumps in the bunker, and 8-3 has some nasty platforming if you go for the reds.
wOW, 8-1 IS KILLING ME, I once got by the first eyeball only to die beign forced into jumping into a Bee. Any tips on getting past the first Eyeball and then the bee right after that?
Thanks Teidon and Zaz i finaly made it past that point cant beleve that i never noticed how those jumps work before
Yeah, that opening section in 8-1 is a real pain in the a$$ to get by. My tip is to go back to a previous level and get a fireball power up (punk mode), then leave that level by pressing pause and going back to the map. Go back to 8-1 and take out the two bees, then make your way up the wall to the block on the top left with the vine around it. Then shoot the eyeball from there. Also, I'm still trying to collect all the red gems in world 8. I managed to collect them all except for the ones in 8-2... I cannot make this jump at all... and it's the only red gem left I need to unlock the classic levels:
Same wish here! I don't like world 8. I don't want to find all its red diamonds. I'm already happy, if I can finish this game somehow.
OK, forget this... it took me about a good half an hour replaying 8-2 over and over again, but I did it. I managed to collect all red gems. Check it out : I do agree though that they should add a cheat code or something to unlock the retro levels.
Bought it, pretty fun so far. I only have a problem with a couple of things. For one, every other game that I own with open feint has a drop down bar every time you unlock an achievement so that you know right then and there. In this game, no drop down bar notifying you when an achievement is completed. I'm sure they'll fix this in the first update, but for now its a bit hard to tell when you've done something correctly. Also, I'm not too sure about the current score model. Couldn't someone just replay and replay a red crystal bonus level, racking up a score before finishing the game? I'd prefer a score system more linear than the current one. I'm also not a big fan of blue crystals reappearing after you have passed a checkpoint and died. I think whatever you have obtained up to the point of a checkpoint, should be gone when you return.
