Hey guys, Bryan from Acceleroto.com, the developer of the popular Air Hockey game, is putting together a get well app for Steve (free of course). It's going to be a simple app that cycles through various Get Well Cards from iPhone developers around the globe. He wants to release the App this evening, so I'm helping him spread the word. If you are interested in participating, email a portrait 320x480 get well card for Steve to cards -at- acceleroto.com by 6 pm pst today! Here are two examples of cards: http://www.acceleroto.com/temp/001.png and http://www.imangistudios.com/ImangiGetWellCard.png We're hoping to gather at least 50 cards, so please put something together if you can spare a few moments. Thanks! -Keith p.s Spread the word!
This sounds like a job for iDoodle lite and maybe a little touch up with photogene, and pull it all together with some MicroSurface
All of us at DYS: Translations join in saying "Get well, Steve": http://img82.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dyscardfv1.png Danilo Yasuno. DYS: Translations.
Thanks everybody for sending all the cards & spreading the news. I have a small collection of cards from iPhone devs (about 20). That's enough to get the thing going. There will be room in an updated version if other people would like to add to the well wishing. It's entirely possible, like others have mentioned, that the app will get disapproved. Steve is a pretty private guy & I'm sure doesn't want any more "limelight" than he already has. However, compared to CNN, Fox News, NPR, etc, this is a pretty tiny amount of limelight. I just wanted to put together some sincere thoughts & wishes from a group he's helped so much. I hope (even if it does get disapproved) that someone at least tells Steve that we got together to wish him well. If all goes well, every iPhone & iPod touch user will download it to "send" their best wishes also. Thanks again,
Paulio- I really appreciate that one, but I can't use touchArcade's name in the app unless it's something from Arn or Blake directly. I really do appreciate the touchArcade community & I hope I don't seem inconsiderate. Sorry,
Yeah that's ok I had that in the back of my mind Arns response to Danny trying to use the logo was useless, so I didn't bother. It's the thought that counts
"Get Well Steve" has been submitted. Thanks to everyone for sending cards so quickly. I'll post back here when/if it makes it to the App Store.
and thank you for making the name fit under the icon, instead of it saying "get well st..." This is a great idea, and I could imagine it getting kind of big if some big name reports it. Have you thought about contacting someone like gizmodo? If you got them to report it, hundreds of get well soon cards would pile in that you could add to the app (if you opened it up to non-devs). It would be a really cool idea, and the ability for others to see your work could be an incentive to make a card.
I actually did spend some time making sure all the letters fit. I wouldn't complain at all if big sites picked it up as a story, but I don't want to push it until it gets approved. There are thousands of devs out there, so we could easily get more cards than would fit. The app right now is just under 3MB with 20 cards in it. I want to keep the app under 10MB so that people can download it directly from their phones. So, the biggest it will be is somewhere in the 50-80 card range. If it gets approved, I'll start taking more cards from devs and release an update. We shall see!
Good to hear. The best of luck to you and your apps journey through the bowels of the apple review system!
