Texting at least. Download "TextPlus" from AppStore. It's free. Go into settings, and enter your GV #. Enter the verification code the app will txt you, and bam, that's it. You now txt for free from your GV # and with push notifications.
One of the itunes reviews states that this app is censored? Not that i care, i usually don't curse on text messages but still..... Kinda like big brother is watching you. Can anyone confirm of this censorship of text messages?
Anyone get this to work? The app works with a normal cell phone... but appears to be blocked for Google SMS. When I send the verification SMS to my gvoice number... it never arrives. Is AT&T blocking it somehow? I'd think they'd be a little put-off by a way around their SMS.
I am having the same issue when utrying this from my iPod, so it's not an AT&T issue. Unless something changed, I don't know how the original poster got this to work.
If they were worried about it then they wouldn't let Yahoo do push notifications either. Me and my wife use it as SMS often. Works great.
My bad guys, I had to go so I just automatically thought it would work and just pressed submit thread. I'm sure theres a workaround though.
NotYou, NotSure. I signed up for a GV number late last year (when it was still called GrandCentral) and just received my invite a little over a month ago. I am guessing it took so long because of the buyout so you might get lucky and get an invite sooner but don't hold your breath.
Pretty sure google blocked this feature awhile ago... Try textfree or any number of other free texting apps. They work fairly well if you can convince everyone that you normally text to text you at the email address they provide you. Might be a good idea to keep the 200 texts on your plan until everyone figures it out though.
I got my invite today I assume the only way to make outgoing calls with GV from an iPhone is to use the browser. Can somebody confirm this?
Thanks! I tried it out and it works. This thing is kind of creepy. I sent myself a text message and it popped up on my iPhone and it would even let me answer from the GV number I had no idea that was possible. I'm self employed and I only use my iPhone, so I was thrilled about the idea of having a free second line. I already switched my called ID number from my iPhone settings.
