Is there going to be any sort of rating system or sorting for downloadable levels? Also, it seems that levels may be "stolen" quite often, as in people downloading and then reuploading under their names and claiming as their own.
Yes there is a rating out of 5 for each level. You can sort by recent, highest rated, featured, your device, and search by level or username. Also all levels are reviewed before showing up online, to keep out rude content, and to make sure people dont upload duplicates! So maybe some will get through here and there, but it should be kept quite clean from duplicates!
Well in theory it would be possible to create a large world for a player to explore, there aren't any limits in regards to the size of the world. So you could create a large number of objects as obstacles, a number of different enemies and spawn points, terrain, items to collect to give more points. But to be honest I'm not sure if a top down free roaming game would work too well, unless it was really well made. But if its something you'd like to try and create, then feel free to let me know if there is anything I can add to the game to help! Also, there currently isn't any saving, due to the complexity of the games, and also the sort of games I had in mind when creating this were more the fun, quick play sort of games. However if games are created where saving would be needed for them to work well, then I'll certainly add it to the list of things to do! (or if it turns out to be a highly requested feature) Also, some other idea's I've had for future updates include allowing the player to have abilities, such as teleporting, invisibility, invulnerability etc, and being able to create pickups to activate these abilities if wanted. So that might tie in nicely with an open world game. But it depends what you had in mind really! and if people want to create larger games, then I could always think about adding features to accommodate that, such as player levels, experience, skill trees etc But like I've said before... if, when you get the game, there is something you think its missing, then just let me know and I can add it in... I'm sure there are lots of features that I never thought of when creating this game, so it's up to the people playing it to let me know what they want to see.
1. Will we be able to upload our own stuff into the game? (like different code, music) 2. Once created, is the game ours or yours? (for example, if I somehow created something good, could I sell it?)
1. Not yet no, right now you create everything within the game. I do have features planned to make this even easier, but as for importing your own assets, this would mean in order to share the game, you'd have to upload all the assets you've used. So if you start using lots of different graphics and music, then the file sizes will increase, the games will no longer be nice quick downloads and the loading times will go up. Not to mention if and when games are scaled up, the quality of any graphics would decrease. As for music, I'm not sure whether that would cause problems for me if someone decides to use a copyrighted song, and then share that game. But I will think about this, as it would add a lot to the game. Oh and I'm not sure what you mean about adding your own code... do you mean so you could program the player to do anything you want? Because the point of this game is that you don't have to know how to program, but if there's something you want to be able to do, then you can just let me know. 2. This depends what you want to do with the game you've created. If for example you just want to prototype an idea you've had, then you can do that, and just not share it, and then create the game yourself later with the proper tools. But if you just want to create a really good game using this 'tool', and then sell that..... well, I guess you could email me before uploading it, to make sure I don't add it to the online lists, and then we could discuss a publishing contract, where I'd turn your game into a standalone game, add any graphics you want / music and publish it on iTunes, so that you would get a percentage, and so would I (and of course Apple). But I don't see any other way you could sell the game, without either creating it yourself with Xcode or some other tool that allows publishing to iOS, or contacting me and allowing me to publish it for you (with a contract of course). Because there's no way to export a game and then send it to Apple yourself, as this isn't really what I had in mind for this game. But I'd be open to the publishing idea. Or did you mean something else?
For adding out own code I meant that if we knew some other language and wanted to add another feature to our game, would it work? (Like copying a file of the game to a computer, editing it, and then sending it back to an iDevice)
No I'm afraid that won't be possible, it just doesn't work in that way. But like I've said, if there is a feature you want, just let me know and I can add it to the list.
You're welcome! I look forward to hearing what you and everyone else thinks about it when it's released! Until then, I'll be posting one of the tutorial videos every few hours to give you all an idea of how you'd go about doing certain things. So here's a list of the different videos, let me know which one you want to see the most and I'll post the video for it. So hopefully these will give you a better idea of how it all works. Physics and Terrain Spawners Joints Buttons Scoring Triggers Weapons Sounds Level Scaling
Ok, well first video I'll show then is the joints one. This shows how to setup a couple of basic joints to create a bike. Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel I'm hoping this is clear enough, but let me know if you think it needs improving. It's not a full tutorial into every aspect of joints, but shows how to set one up, and from there you can have a mess with different values to see how different things work, as well as viewing the help files.
Thanks, always a good thing to hear! Ok, so heres the second video, which kind of follows on from the last one I showed you. It shows how to add a button to control the bike (or more specifically, the motors in the rotation joints) Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Enjoy!
Please refer to page 3, #27, as I already answered that question. Also, the next video I'll show you all is the triggers one. It shows how to make a group of objects die when another one collides with the ground. Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel
Thanks for the reply, it really helped. I think it will really help to create more hardcore games if you add in the save point, but intil then I'll just make it a survival. Will it be comming to American iTunes?
